I love going to Sea World in San Diego and visiting the bat rays. They're so cute and feel so soft. They seemed to gravitate toward me, I'm not sure why but I wasn't complaining! :-)
i saw a bat ray when i went to CIMI at catilina island and it was in a touch tank and it only wanted to be petted by me it went to no one else and there was nothing on my hands
@flubberflubby But surely, can't we hope that the aqua-batty love of the bat rays will help restore the balance of the world and heal the disorder all around us? Those lil' pteropine-piscine guys shouldn't be underestimated! :-)
im eating a bat ray right now that i caught .... well im eating the wings .... taste pretty good to .... thats for anyone wondering if u can eat them.
Was lucky enough to experience this today at the same location! One of the rays pulled its head out of the water and maintained the position for several seconds before it fell backwards into the water. Reasonably enough, I was startled;the ray came to where I was and proceeded to "spyhop" while thrashing about. The whole thing was much more "violent" (as violent as rays can be :)) than in this video. What a delightful creature!
Yes, I was petty amazed when I saw this. Totally unexpected. :-)
And yes, I'd quite like to use filters on the camera, but the lens barrel isn't threaded. I had attached a UV filter but I had to use Elmer's glue to do so... (Which is American for white PVA glue, the stuff you used at school and liked to peel off your fingers - I am actually an itinerant Brit which is why I know this... ;-) And that's not a ideal attachment solution. Or very sturdy, come to that...
We used to have rays at one of the aquariums here in the south of the UK and I remember that behaviour vividly. They get used to the shadows meaning feeding time and so pop their head out partly for that I think. Koy do the same.
If you put a polariser filter on the lens you can obliterate those reflections btw. (you might already know this though as looking through your vids you seem to know your cams) :-)
