He isn't a sell out. He is a director, it is what he does for a living and sometimes it is a homerun and sometimes the ball doesn't make it past first base.
I don't like Cop Out simply because it wasn't one of HIS pictures. He just did it basically to be directing Bruce Willis. I like his pictures, not because of Jay and Silent bob, but because he always has something to say about his life.
I liked Copout. I think it was real good. Bruce and Tracy did a good job in it. The action was good too. It did have some funny stuff too. Kevin did a good job of it. It payed homage to the 80s buddy cop movies.
Personally, I didn't like Cop Out. But the major flaw with that movie was with the writing and KS didn't write it. I think if KS would have written it, it would have been vastly better. No director or actor could have saved that script.
Big movies in the 80s you could swear all you wanted, films like Diehard, etc....I watched Superman 3 to other day and Richard Pryor thinking his boss will call the police, "please don't do anything I don't want to go to a place where they rape you, etc..". In a Superman movie.

@The95superfly, as much as I would like to see more movies in the View/Askewniverse, I think Clerks 2 closed the series very well. It was the movie that symbolized his coming of age into directing. I'm not saying he's a baad director but that he grew out of it and needed to move beyond it.

@halffolk1 That's a lot for a Kevin Smith movie, and it made a reasonably profit. You don't always need to make 150 million to turn a profit. DVD sales will make it a very worthwhile project.
