The military does NOT fight for the average citizen. The military fights for nothing but rich old men and their wealthy defense contractors. Most wars fought in the last 60 years had absolutely nothing to do with Americas national interest. I had a friend, I went to his house every day (because we lived next door to each other). We went to uni together and he got tons of qualifications.
He said to me: 'when this is all over, I'm gonna settle down and have a family with a stable job.'
He never got to.
He died standing next to me as we fought off the Taliban, he died in my arms.
When I got back to the base - I cried and every day I wish it had been me in his place.

I served in the US Army in Afghanistan.
The 5 greatest moments in it where:
- Getting the letters from my family every once in a while.
- Knowing I'd survived another day.
- Knowing that when it was all over I could see the ones I loved again.
- Fighting alongside my Brothers in Arms.
- Stepping off that plane and seeing my family for the first time in 3 years.
And I tell you this - when I saw them (my wife and two kids - one of which had been born while I was away) I cried.

Actually I do know people who were in Iraq, and they say the war is despicable and is simply legalized mass-murder and invasion-for-money.
Thankfully they were smart enough to quit the military who use them as grunts for illegal invasions.
Anyone who is still in the military needs to get a life and actually contribute something positive to humanity rather than fucking it up.
