Our book has used a confusing phonetic alphabet the entire way through. The other students will only have a four day crash-course of the alphabet, so I'm definitely referring them to this video. We're college students, and the way you've presented everything here is so unique it gives an instant, and funny, link to the letters~ Thank you!

You've missed the point of the Rapid Method entirely: to instantly remember an otherwise difficult alphabet thru shocking, bizarre & funny mental images. It takes 16-30 hours to learn perfectly what would normally take 4-6 months in a conventional school to learn imperfectly.
Do you speak and read Thai? It's one thing to criticize Thai people & culture; and another thing to live and retire here and then disparage our hosts by not bothering to learn their language. You scorn immigrants in USA who can't/won't speak English, why is it different for us?
The Rapid Method gives you a solid foundation for gradually picking up speaking & understanding from your surroundings. I think that's quite respectful (regardless of the wacky approach), don't you?

I use a completely different approach for learning the German Der/Die/Das; but when I devised this system, it seemed fun & appropriate to incorporate ladyboys as the 'third sex' and their 'bizarreness' translates readily into our western obsession with deviant sex. The point is that it works: in 16 hours you can remember and read Thai... slowly and without necessarily understanding... but that comes with practice.

Your ป ปลา is correct. As far as there being no g or j sound in Thai, you are mistaken. จ. จาน is a j sound and not a ch sound. ก ไก่ is a g sound. Just ask a Thai person to make the sound and then judge for yourself.
@jadambrad Please do some new videos. I really like the way you teach and speak. Youre almost accent free and well known in Thailand. I would really like to see a complete video about all Consonants, most videos on youtube are just pure crap, like this one from RapidLL. My thai teacher sometimes just cant explain stuff to me, because she was born into this language and cant understand some of my questions. As she is my aunt, Im not allowed to ask questions all the time 5555...

I just dont like those old farang males who settle to Thailand after doing holiday in Pattaya a few times. I never went to Pattaya, I have some relatives in Chiangmai and Chonburi tho, but I would never go to farang-crowded places like Pattaya. J has nearly an accent free Thai and is a well known farang in Thailand. This rude behaviour of RapidLL disqualifies all the videos for me.
@jadambrad The Bangkok Post sent an editor (an American fluent in Thai) and a senior (Thai) journalist to my weekend workshop. They felt that my approach was mostly correct and remarkably effective: everyone in my class could read Thai and pronounce the sounds accurately with the correct tones after just two days. Google the article "finally a fun quick way to read thai".
Adam has deleted all my comments, but here's the gist of what I said. I agree: "learning how to read first is essential!" The conventional way of learning is arduous & complicated; and Adam although fluent is mistaken about:
1. ต ("dt") IS the "t" as in "stop" - the point is not use your voice = "d" and not to expel any air = "t".
2. ป (pb) is the same as our "p" inside "supple" or "spy": no voice, no air.
3. There are NO "g" or "j" sounds in Thai. Think of "sky" or "chew" (no air).
- yes that's true :) the 'Rapid' approach is about simplifying and reducing the material to be learnt using effective mnemonics and associations - if it were German, I'd use men for 'der', women for 'die' and perhaps animals or children for 'das', but in Thai I thought it would be a lot more fun to use ladyboys for the 'third sex' as they are so much a part of Thai culture with its tolerant Buddhist principles... :)

The best person to do it is a well-read native speaker because it's a lot of work. And it's best to have new pictures, but sometimes, with a bit of ingenuity, you can use the same pictures as a starting point: le capitaine utilise un BAQUET pour écouper l'eau du bateau (บ looks like a cup or bucket).

There are reading courses that use a similar concept (i.e. sound/visual assocations...) However, please note that some courses are wrong! And without incorporating a subliminal "hook" for the sex (or class) of each letter, it makes reading tones fiendishly difficult!
E.g. There are NO "g" or "j" sounds in Thai: you will speak incorreclty if you learn this (ก is like the swallowed "ck" in "cockerel"). Also consonants at the end DO NOT change sound, they are simply "shaken but not stirred"...
I've replaced the concept of "letter classes" with sex and personality. I't s much easier! The tone of each syllable is determined by the "consonant class". It's much easier to think of a wierd story with boys, girls and ladyboys.
E.g. the ไม้โท [mai toh] looks a bit like a person on the end of a surfboard, surfing down a wave. Boys & girls are sporty and can surf (the "yeah!!" tone). Ladyboys are clumsy and fall off (the "oops!" tone). :)
BTW, I thought I'd mention that ทับ (at 07.00) is also slang for having sex! Thai is full of ordinary words that also have a sexual meaning, like ฟัน "tooth/fuck", เสร็จ "finish/cum", ไข่ "egg/balls", etc. :)
