Yes Oz, there are so many relative factors when numbers get regional. So areas of the country are in double-digit unemployment while other areas are just 5-7% so that can be impactful if you are selling to local only buyers.
National and international sales can help regulate local fluctuations.

In my territory, Gasoline prices have risen .30 in just a few months. This NEVER happened at Christmastime before. Parking lots are EMPTY. No Traffic on the roads. This is a COMPLETE stifling of activity. Another indicator of Economic mood is Lack of Display of Home Christmas Lawn and House lighting.
Restaurants are completely empty, and the local Dunkin' Donuts and Carwash are Ghost towns.
Does Not look good from my perspective.
No one can afford a 401k here. We need our money to live on.
