I don't know where all the KISS footage on YouTube was archived at, but in the past we would have killed to see such a great recording of a show from '77
ROCKS!!!! SCREAMS 1970s!!!! "Fun" lyrics? Yes. Catchy melodies. Absolutely. Stamp on an era of American pop culture? Undeniably. Great musicians? It's evidently YES!!!!......So why no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
I love this era of KISS the most, but I dont hate Paul and Gene for having new members. its one thing how the fans see KISS, they see KISS as Ace Peter Gene and Paul, but try seeing Paul and Gene having to live with Ace and Peter, Pete and Ace in my opinion couldnt handle success. drugs and booze got the best of them. I myself dont drink or smoke, and I cant stand people around me that get drunk or stoned, I couldnt imagine being in a band with 2 members doing that.
@Guillermo21071 Remember this, Gene is a guy who detests drugs and alcohol so he probably wasn't a fan when Ace and Peter were drunk off their asses (no offense Ace)
It was everyone involved that made KISS who they were. Aucion mngnt team etc... Everybody had the same vision as to what KISS should look like, Paul, Ace Gene, Peter knew what they should sound like. It was one of those rare encounters where the right people come together and make something thats larger than life....
Its had to believe in just a couple years from this time kiss would be down 2 members and total sellouts playing bulljive that couldn't be compaired to what was done before.but they had kiss toilet paper and comic books.and some dance hits!
Eric Carr, RIP, was an amazing drummer, but nonetheless, Peter Criss was irreplaceable, as was Ace Frehley!!! KISS was about the chemistry of it's original members. They were the best! They were the best band in Rock, at that time.
End of story!!!!!!!! (Saw them twice, '77 and '79. Los Angeles Forum.)
@exLARamsfan I'm so jealous of you!! you saw Kiss at the Forum in 77!!!, for the recording of alive2. Those were great shows, I like Dynasty, but it wasn't the same as Love Gun, since we know all the personal problems between them they were facing in 79. Were you near the stage??
@hgmcalifas Not at the Love Gun (Alive II) show (Saturday, August 27th, 1977). We were "backcourt", a couple rows into the actual stands, but just above the stage level, straight across the floor. At the Dynasty show, I was behind the stage, on Gene's side, at an angle and high up, but an interesting perspective. They were better live in '79, but not as popular.
Ace was in the zone. Also, they were trying to live up to their reputation as the greatest show on Earth. It WAS. I Was There!
This is awesome. I am, being 18, proud that I was able to see Kiss in the original line-up in '99. Not many kids of my age can say that. I like Eric and Tommy too, they don't deserve the critics they get. Some people need to understand that Peter and Ace are gone and won't come back.
I've written this before, in a more lucid and sober state, but that this show is posted for me to watch on YouTube any time I want, the first big rock show I ever attended, is a testament to the times we live in and good spiritual vibes. Gods bless 74BlackDiamond74 for being a true believer and a King among men. This show is why, at 42, I continue to make music, play live shows, and feel ALIVE. Godspeed.
@LordRuehl I agree. But because the summit was the first footage i ever saw of Kiss as a kid, i still love that clip. at least you can hear Paul's half of the solo. I think the guys who filmed kiss's performances should massivly be fired. They don't capture the soloist when they do their solos. Jerks!!! Overall, great clip
@sorry2dis I want to start off by saying that Peter Criss is one of the greatest rock drummers ever. This being said, he had alot of Jazz & Swing influences incorporated in his playing. Much Like John Bonham, they were both very versatile drummers who could either play with swagger or totally blow you away with power. Example: Love Gun is a signature swing beat.
hey do they still really sound good?? cause all the video's ive seen lately...they really arent....sounds like they played better in south america then what they are doing here.
From the Love Gun LP. They opened the shows with this and also the Alive II shows as well, despite Detroit Rock City being the first track on that LP. Most of those cheers were faked anyway. They brought this back as the opener during Hot in the Shade. A good hit to open the shows with. Sadly, this was the last LP that all four original members played on. Ace disappeared during the Alive II studio recordings and was replaced by Bruce Kulick. Yes, that Bruce.
About what? The cheers? They were canned. Do you really think fans would scream constantly through a concert? With the exception of Hard Luck Woman, the songs were live, and the cheers were added later.
I've seen the footage from The Ed Sullivan Show. I have heard that if you had been in the studio, you couldn't have heard them performing because the girls were screaming so loud. That didn't happen with KISS or even (I'm gonna throw up) New Kids on the Block.
Remember that the Beatles (even at Shea) performed through relatively TINY amps and PA. Kiss' sound system was many times bigger and infinitely louder.
I saw them a week after this show on December 27th 1977 in Baton Rouge!! I was 12 years old at the time and was in TOTAL AWE When they came out on Stage!!!! I will never forget the whole concert! I saw them in August of 1979 in Baton Rouge again on the Dynasty Tour, very great show as well!
The Dynasty tour was my first time seeing KISS. It was June 1979 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC. Whiteface opened. Sadly, Peter's problems began to surface during this tour (see Beth, Largo, MD 1979). He also quit playing during Move On (Paul Stanley) at one show. At another, he was seen shouting at someone off stage before Beth. And he & Gene almost got into at another show.
If you need a fake KISS please give me Bruce Kulick over Tommy anyday. Bruce is an amazing guitar player and fits in w/ Gene and Paul extremely well. Anyway very cool show KISS mania at its peak.
local Rockville guitarist / singer / songwriter Tony Romeo ( Tony Rigopoulos ) was at this concert with his brothers and i in 77. We got a ride with one of the parents of a local Rockville Family. Tony was a great guitarist , even at Earl B Wood junior high school( middle school ) and taught us much about rock music and instruments. he was great inspiration to us all as young musicians.
Robert Sherman , Washington Talent Agency Rockville, Maryland
They need 2 put this in Rock Band or Guitar Hero, I'm tired of playin Detroit Rock City and Calling Dr. Love, 4 god sakes they got Grateful Dead, but only 2 Kiss songs, pretty pathetic. I hope they'll have more Kiss songs 2 play soon.
This is it, boys and girls. Props to Zeppelin. Props to Sabbath. But this is the best any band has ever been on stage in the history of music. 30 years later and it still KILLS. Put all their differences aside, when these 4 got on stage together, it was magic. At the height of their powers in 1977, no one could touch KISS live, and no one ever will.
Does anyone know how they "counted in" to a song like this, when everyone hits on the 1st beat? They obviously had trouble with it. Spread around a large stage like that, I don't see how it's accomplished easlily. Even if they had a four count in the monitors, it'd be hard to hear over the crowd.
I've wondered that, my damn self. It's about as close to perfect as it gets, with such an intro. The pyro dudes miss the first beat, by mere seconds, on this show, as well as the two Houston shows, from '77.
Unfortunately not. The song itsself is on "side 3" of Alive II, but it's recorded as a song in the middle of the set list, as opposed to being the intro. Thus, it doesn't have the extended guitar riff intro, nor the audio pyro effects.
best fuckin song ever. 00:32-00:41 has to be the best live vocal performance ever in the world. ever. "I needed someone, you needed someone, tooooo. yahhhhh OW!-OW-ow-ow-ow!"
This is a great quality video. If you look closely, just before the first chorus,Ace throws out a pick to the crowd. He grabs another one off stand,he soon looks down at it like something isn't right. He drops it and grabs another one. I assume he grabbed one of Gene's picks by mistake? You can also clearly see the roadies on Gene's side of the stage. What a great view. Kiss at there best. Fond memories.
best fuckin song ever. 00:32-00:41 has to be the best live vocal performance ever in the world. ever. "I needed someone, you needed someone, tooooo. yahhhhh OW!-OW-ow-ow-ow!"
That is un-fuckin' believable. Great camera angles, awesome sound.....one of the best clips I've seen from the Destroyer/Love Gun era. KISS were professional from day one. It doesn't get any better than this.
Happy Birthday Paul.

Great song to open with. Note,it doesn't take Ace long to start throwing picks out.

That is un-fuckin' believable. Great camera angles, awesome sound.....one of the best clips I've seen from the Destroyer/Love Gun era. KISS were professional from day one. It doesn't get any better than this.
