I have a friend who was tasered once. He has a problematic split personality, and was threatening friends angrily with a crowbar (this is not the norm for him though, seriously). When police arrived on the scene, he attacked them, but was brought down by a taser. He couldn't remember it, but was glad they didn't have to resort to clubbing him with a baton and that he didn't actually hurt anyone.

Tasers are a very useful tool, replacing direct force with a overall much safer and effective alternative. They have diffused many dangerous situations which could escalate if not stopped swiftly.

That said, they hurt like ****, so users need to trained very specifically when it is appropriate to use them and when there is no need. They can't just be dished out to anyone with the idea that its not lethal, so its not an issue.

The good thing about batons is that it's provable they've been used on you, ex bruises. Tasers don't leave marks (no, they don't burn you, at least they shouldn't). Thus, it eliminates the need for suspects to "fall down some stairs" over and over again.

If you'll notice, those rulings are state rulings regarding state laws in North Carolina and Indiana.

You can look up the FL state law, which is different, and states pretty clearly that you cannot resist someone who you know to be a police officer for any reason. the courtroom is the place to argue that you're innocent.

This is no unlawful arrest. Meyer was perfectly within the laws until he started resisting the officers who asked him to leave. He ignored them, so they attempted to escort him out. He tried to break their hold and in doing so, justified the use of force by the officers. The only thing wrong here is that the officers didn't take him out before he caused such a ridiculous scene.
