Since going F2P, they have reported a 300% increase in the playerbase. I would say SOE made the right choice.

@Tamalain I agree wholly. SOE probably saw the population of the EQ2X server and the income and made a determination to merge them assuming the model would not only increase revenue, but playerbase. Playerbase actually is part of the quantitative process for determining projected income / revenues. I'm considering getting back on myself. You still play?

@ROTC44532 The reason reported for going F2Pon EQ2. The DCUOL went F2P and had a 1000% increase in one weekend, so it made perfect sense for EQ2 to finalize the shift as early as possible.

@butthead6886 EQ2 is still running. Look up Everquest 2 free adventures. it is still going, and for the most part. free to play.

@butthead6886 i remember running around as my Ratonga ^^ Good days. i made it to lvl 72 i was so proud of myself....UNTIL lvl 90 had to come out and i was PISSED :(

Talk about nostalgia! This was the first mmo I really got into. Was a guild leader of the largest guild on Najena back in the day. I don't care what people say, this was one of the best MMO's, I hold many good memories from the game. I almost wish I could go back, but I hear it is dead and on a f2p model, I am not sure if I wan't to tarnesh what was eq2 with the shell that it is now. Oh yeah the music is great aswel.

@Punkification101 Ive actually been playing eq2 extended, free adventures. while there may be only 1 server, its basically base eq2, with an expansion or 2 added on. Its actually just as fun if not moreso then when i played it last (which was multiple years ago.)

It is not a shell of its former self. It is still a truly great MMORPG to play.
