Agassi is the star of the commercial. He's a natural with acting. Steffi put up a valiant effort. But not using her mother tongue and being shy and reserved, she came across a bit stiffer than her hubbie. Still it's good to see Steffi enjoying a rare moment of humour and fun.
@GingerMouseHouse EH? How? He was 26 or 27 years older, had bad eye sight. Was 15kgs over weight,hadnt played competetively in 25 years or so while she was at the peak of her career....its hardly rocket science.
She was greater than Agassi in terms of accomplishments, but not better in terms of actual level of play. Men's and women's games are not comparable at the highest levels. Agassi, or any top 50 male player, could have destroyed Graf.
We're talking about Sharapova, God, see her game, it's pure power, she against a top 200 guy which his game is not based in power... It wouldn't be that impossible. I don't remember who was him, someone told me
Diana, it is impossible. I know what I'm talking about because I've actually been on the ground, teaching and watching all different kinds of players. For example, who do you think the women practice with? Answer: highly-ranked junior boys and male college players. And most of them beat the women, and these are guys who would have trouble getting a couple of games off a top-200 ATP player. For instance, when I was in college, my coach asked me if I wanted to practice with Barbara Jordan.
Its true... another example would be i know a guy who i play against in A1 mens comp and he said he played this girl who played in grand slams.. she was relitivly young and he smahsed her like 6-3, 6-3...
Jordan was a highly-ranked WTA player at the time. She was in the area, I suppose, and was looking to practice. Now, understand that my college's tennis program wasn't even top tier. It was NAIA! And to illustrate the athletic difference, listen to this. When Jordan was around one day, our coach asked her if she wanted to do wind sprints with the guys. She said, quote, "I stopped doing wind sprints when I started losing to 13-year-old boys." And she was a very athletic female player.
WOW! Are you sure about her atheliticism? Then female players didn't have so much power, if you see a match of Chris Evert against Navratilova in the 70's, it's beautiful because it's a beautiful and long game, but man, they returned each other's smashes really easily, it was a real lack of power, for example if Sam Stosur now meets a top 300 player she would be at the level, God she's really athletic, and her serves go 200 km/h.
Yes, they hit with less velocity then, but so did the men. The game has changed markedly. Again, though, there is no female player who is the equivalent of a 300 male player. As I said, apparent power has relatively little to do with it. To give you some idea of the gap between the sexes, consider that the women's world record for the mile is 4:13, but the boys' American HIGH SCHOOL record is 3:52. I know it's not tennis, but it gives you some idea of the profound differences between the sexes.
Just to get it clear, I'm a guy hahah! But man, it's true, when you see a tennis player like Nicole Vaidisova it's a really slow and orthopaedic game, and very female. But if a woman like Stosur bases her game in a lot of men's, like Phillippousis, it changes. Sorry but a fucking 13 year old boy cannot win a game against a hypermusclepower 25 year old Samantha Stosur who serves at 202!
Well, wait a second. If you didn't now know better, you might say that a 13-year-old boy couldn't beat a world class female athlete in a race. Again, the gap between the sexes is huge. Also remember that some 13-year-olds are physically very mature and look like 15 or 16-year-olds. Nevertheless, if the best 13-year-old boy was playing the best woman and I HAD to bet, I'd choose him. That's my professional judgment. Again, you're overestimating the significance of "power."
I already explained that. Power is not the major difference. The major difference is foot speed. On top of that, there are other, less obvious differences as well. Some of these would be the ability to judge spatial relationships, touch, hand-eye coordination, etc. For example, in golf, you might think that the only difference is driving distance. Well, the men putt better too. The number 1 woman in putts per GIR would rank only 38th on the men's tour.
C'mon, now, Jaime, I think you know the answer to that question. You're now just being difficult. I might as well say that if power is the major factor, why doesn't the strongest person on each tour win all his matches? If you really don't know the answer to that question (if you're being honest), I'll answer it for you. But I think you know better.
Anyway, I was just sharing my expertise with you. If it's not appreciated, fine. God bless
Jaime, I don't watch any tennis anymore. I just got bored with it, you might say. And while there are deeper reasons for this as well, I'll just say that because I've seen so much of it and have hit every shot in the book a million times, it just doesn't interest me anymore. However, even when I did watch years ago, I didn't watch women's tennis very much. I played better than they did and wasn't really interested in watching them.
No, 43. Remember, when she was looking to practice at the time, I was in college while she had already been a long-established pro on the women's circuit.
No, let me make myself clear. If the best 13-year-old boy played the best woman and I HAD to bet on the match, I'd have to bet on him. Of course, it's not a bet I'd be sure of. I'd have to see the kid, how he played and how physically mature he was. Remember, some 13-year-olds look like they're 16. And, no, I don't believe that he'd beat the woman easily.
No, you misunderstood. She was talking about running "wind sprints," which are sprints (usually involving a lot of changes in direction) that tennis players often run for training purposes. She was asked by our coach if she wanted to run them with the guys on the tennis team, and she said that she stopped doing wind sprints when she started losing to 13-year-old boys. She wasn't talking about playing tennis.
Well, the difference between you and me is that I've actually practiced with world ranked women and had taught the game for many years. Do you realize there are kids who have professional games by the time they're 13? One of the only differences between them and pros is physical maturity. And if you have one who is unusually physically mature (who maybe looks like he's 16), yes, it's entirely possible that he could beat the top women. Remember, female pros sometimes practice with ranked boys.
I understand what you are trying to say with the whole "men are stronger than woman" statement. However, you are stretching it way too far. First of all, any 13 year old lacks a) the physical maturity of a 28 year old female and b) the mental maturity of a 28 year old female.
Of course, I am sure that there are 18 year olds that can beat Serena Williams. Thirteen? No way. Fourteen? No. Fifteen? No. Sixteen? No. Seventeen? Probably...not. Eighteen? Maybe.
Again, you speak without knowledge. First, Michael Chang won the French Open and Boris Becker won Wimbledon at 17. Aaron Krickstein won an ATP event at 16. And note: all the guys at that level can beat the women 6-0, 6-0. Really, lots of teenage boys beat the women. They practice together sometimes; it happens all the time. Also, the women's world record for the mile is 4:12; the BOYS' American high school record is 3:52, a huge gap at that level. And this gap holds across most sports. Ephpheta.
@OutlanderWarrior Shit man laying down some serious knowledge here. I don't get how anyone can actually argue against your point when you actually got all these facts.
Also, you didn't comprehend what I wrote. As soon as the boys become physically superior (e.g., faster, stronger), the best of them can beat the best women. And 16-year-old boys as a group are far stronger and faster than women as a group. And, as I said, the 13-year-old would have to be UNUSUALLY physically mature as well as in possession of a polished game. However, I have seen 13-year-olds who look like 16-year-olds, and I'm sure you have too.
By the way, I'm curious about something. It's unusual to find someone your age who is a Diana Ross fan (or who even knows who she is). How did you come to appreciate her music? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that you know about more than just today's (junky) popular culture. But it nevertheless is interesting.
Both my parents like her so I watch a couple of videos of Diana and I liked her. However I put DIANAROSS4EVER as my nickname in youtube when I was at the top of the fanaticism about her. Now I like her, but I'm not a Diana Ross hooligan lol
If I can hit the ball 25% harder than you, hit it accurately and keep it down with topspin, it is unlikely that you will be able to beat me, no matter how good your technique is in other areas. If I have much heavier groundstrokes than you I will be able to keep you at the back of the court, control the game, move you around and put you away, consistently.
Also, here's some food for thought. And, I'm not trying to be a wise-guy, so don't take this the wrong way. Why is it so important to you to believe that the women are better than they are? You're not a woman, so I know it's not that you're driven by typical feminist motives. Now, I have my own theories as to why certain men want to believe such things, but I think it's something you ought to ponder. Again, you seem like a nice fellow, and I'm not trying to be argumentative. But think about it.
Hehe, could you please use a more simple English? I'm a 14 year old Spanish boy. I think it's important because malist (or whatever, don't know how to say it) is a very stupid thing, of course we're superior to women in much many sides, but that doesn't mean that we're Gods and they're rubbish. Because that a 13 year old player can defeat a female Grand Slam champion, well, no. That's impossible, even if she had a broken leg.
OK, I'll simplify the language, sorry. As I was saying, again, you're overestimating the significance of "power." Good players can handle power. The way you beat them is by working them out of position. Look, I know you find these women beautiful and that that's a big reason why you're saying these things. But, remember, you can appreciate their looks while being realistic. And, yes, both men and women are God's children, but He made us different and gave us different roles.
I really like that answer :) OK, normal man beat top woman. But female tennis players aren't just, hey how beautiful she is, let support her, she train really hard, and make the top of hers, so that's why I also support women's tennis. And because its nice to see, don't say me that you don't enjoy for example a match between Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport. Or Martina Hingis which her game was really beautiful
My point is that the gap between the sexes in sports is MUCH bigger than most people have been led to believe in this PC world. Some years ago, for example, Karsten Braasch, a German player ranked about 203 at the time, played the Williams sisters down in Australia. He beat each of them easily while serving at 50%. As for power, there's a misunderstanding here. First, TV is a great equalizer. As McEnroe once said, TV makes everything look the same, men's, women's, the 14s. And he's right.
Secondly, power isn't even close to being the major difference between the sexes. Movement is. Tennis is a game of positioning. If you're in position, you can hit a controlled shot. If you're not, you can't. And the men are far quicker. Lastly, remember that I've played against world-ranked pros, male and female. I know the difference firsthand. I could beat the top women when I was at my best, and I would have been hard-pressed to get even a game off a top-200 ATP player. That's the truth.
I also should mention,I checked for info about Sharapova on Google, using many different search terms. I found nothing. What you heard was a rumor. And, again, I can tell you that unless the guy was extremely sick (in which case I can't imagine he'd be playing) or there was a handicap built in, it's just unimaginable. Remember, the rumor mill isn't to be trusted. Just look at how many people here spread misinformation about the King-Riggs match. And they can learn about that online in a sec.
@DIANAROSS4EVER Ah come on. Was he playing in a wheel chair? I saw Graf against the 500 th ranked player on the mens atp tour years ago and he beat her handily in straight sets. There simply is no comparison. Any man in the top 1000 would beat any female top 10 player any day of the week.
@niall29 Uh yeah, ok. That doesn't mean that women's tennis is as enjoyable as men's tennis, when women's tennis was at its best (1999-2003) it was quite more popular than men's tennis, well of course right now I enjoy more watching men's tennis because wta sucks right now, but I enjoy watching a Nadal-Federer match as much as I enjoy watching a Serena-Hingis classic.
@Hoffenheim08 Well look I don't care about Slams, the fact is that all the good ones were competing against each other back then, Graf, Seles, Hingis, Davenport, Capriati, Williams sisters, Pierce, Clijsters, Henin... they were competing against each other and it was awesome to watch, what's better for you watching Graf or Navratilova dominating the game easier than Serena now?
If Steffi and Navratilova had been worse in 1987-89 than they actually were all the good ones would have been competing against each other back then. Graf, Navratilova, Evert, Mandlikova, Shriver, Sabatini, Garrison, Kohde, Sukova, Maleeva.
Diana, I never captured an ATP point. However, I've held very good sectional rankings and used to teach the game. I also used to be a sparring partner for a woman who was ranking about 25 in the world and who had wins over top female players at the time, and I would usually beat her 6-1 or 6-2 (and I had a bad back at the time). So, that gives you some idea about the gap between the sexes in tennis. Remember, I'm a guy who never even had a world ranking.
it certainly is nice to see steffi with her wilson tennis raquet again in hand...i just love the way how she moves on the court..so fluid and makes it look effortless. never explosive like the williams'sisters but nonetheless spectacular

Eighteen? Maybe.
awesomekidddo 2 years ago

Yifmelon 1 year ago

OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
Both my parents like her so I watch a couple of videos of Diana and I liked her. However I put DIANAROSS4EVER as my nickname in youtube when I was at the top of the fanaticism about her. Now I like her, but I'm not a Diana Ross hooligan lol

@DIANAROSS4EVER

OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
Hehe, could you please use a more simple English? I'm a 14 year old Spanish boy. I think it's important because malist (or whatever, don't know how to say it) is a very stupid thing, of course we're superior to women in much many sides, but that doesn't mean that we're Gods and they're rubbish. Because that a 13 year old player can defeat a female Grand Slam champion, well, no. That's impossible, even if she had a broken leg.
DIANAROSS4EVER 2 years ago
OK, I'll simplify the language, sorry. As I was saying, again, you're overestimating the significance of "power." Good players can handle power. The way you beat them is by working them out of position. Look, I know you find these women beautiful and that that's a big reason why you're saying these things. But, remember, you can appreciate their looks while being realistic. And, yes, both men and women are God's children, but He made us different and gave us different roles.
OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
I really like that answer :) OK, normal man beat top woman. But female tennis players aren't just, hey how beautiful she is, let support her, she train really hard, and make the top of hers, so that's why I also support women's tennis. And because its nice to see, don't say me that you don't enjoy for example a match between Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport. Or Martina Hingis which her game was really beautiful
DIANAROSS4EVER 2 years ago
My point is that the gap between the sexes in sports is MUCH bigger than most people have been led to believe in this PC world. Some years ago, for example, Karsten Braasch, a German player ranked about 203 at the time, played the Williams sisters down in Australia. He beat each of them easily while serving at 50%. As for power, there's a misunderstanding here. First, TV is a great equalizer. As McEnroe once said, TV makes everything look the same, men's, women's, the 14s. And he's right.
OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
Secondly, power isn't even close to being the major difference between the sexes. Movement is. Tennis is a game of positioning. If you're in position, you can hit a controlled shot. If you're not, you can't. And the men are far quicker. Lastly, remember that I've played against world-ranked pros, male and female. I know the difference firsthand. I could beat the top women when I was at my best, and I would have been hard-pressed to get even a game off a top-200 ATP player. That's the truth.
OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
I also should mention,I checked for info about Sharapova on Google, using many different search terms. I found nothing. What you heard was a rumor. And, again, I can tell you that unless the guy was extremely sick (in which case I can't imagine he'd be playing) or there was a handicap built in, it's just unimaginable. Remember, the rumor mill isn't to be trusted. Just look at how many people here spread misinformation about the King-Riggs match. And they can learn about that online in a sec.
OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
@DIANAROSS4EVER Ah come on. Was he playing in a wheel chair? I saw Graf against the 500 th ranked player on the mens atp tour years ago and he beat her handily in straight sets. There simply is no comparison. Any man in the top 1000 would beat any female top 10 player any day of the week.
niall29 1 year ago
@niall29 Uh yeah, ok. That doesn't mean that women's tennis is as enjoyable as men's tennis, when women's tennis was at its best (1999-2003) it was quite more popular than men's tennis, well of course right now I enjoy more watching men's tennis because wta sucks right now, but I enjoy watching a Nadal-Federer match as much as I enjoy watching a Serena-Hingis classic.

@DIANAROSS4EVER
Women's tennis at its best in 1999-2003?
When Jennifer Capriati won 3 slams???
LOL ...
Hoffenheim08 1 year ago
@DIANAROSS4EVER
Oh, I forgot - 15 of 20 slams in 1999-2003 were won by US players.
Of course women's tennis must have been at its best ...
Hoffenheim08 1 year ago
@Hoffenheim08 Well look I don't care about Slams, the fact is that all the good ones were competing against each other back then, Graf, Seles, Hingis, Davenport, Capriati, Williams sisters, Pierce, Clijsters, Henin... they were competing against each other and it was awesome to watch, what's better for you watching Graf or Navratilova dominating the game easier than Serena now?
DIANAROSS4EVER 1 year ago
@DIANAROSS4EVER
If Steffi and Navratilova had been worse in 1987-89 than they actually were all the good ones would have been competing against each other back then. Graf, Navratilova, Evert, Mandlikova, Shriver, Sabatini, Garrison, Kohde, Sukova, Maleeva.
Hoffenheim08 1 year ago
@niall29 sorry I wanted to say that doesn't mean that women's tennis isn't as enjoyable as men's tennis

@niall29
Against which "500th-ranked player on the men's atp tour" did you "see" Graf years ago?
Hoffenheim08 1 year ago
I think you meant to say OVERSTATE the matter. Nevertheless, what I said is absolutely accurate. And if you were a tennis pro, you would know it.
OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
I am no tennis pro and can tell you that you are not a tennis pro.
amsd1231 2 years ago
Well, how about this: want to play for money? We can play a match for $1000, and then you can find out if I'm the real McCoy or not.
OutlanderWarrior 2 years ago
What ranking did you achieved?
DIANAROSS4EVER 2 years ago
Diana, I never captured an ATP point. However, I've held very good sectional rankings and used to teach the game. I also used to be a sparring partner for a woman who was ranking about 25 in the world and who had wins over top female players at the time, and I would usually beat her 6-1 or 6-2 (and I had a bad back at the time). So, that gives you some idea about the gap between the sexes in tennis. Remember, I'm a guy who never even had a world ranking.

Who was she? I know a lot of female tennis players
