  • Is that market place Shudehill?

  • @Archin04 some of those are still here. Amazingly two of the ones that look the most damaged. The Victoria arcade and the royal exchange are still here. :P

  • My Grandad lived on New York street off Oxford Road and used to watch the raids from the skylight with his little brother. Said he could see some coming down on parachutes, landmines I guess.

  • Wow! I don't live so far away from Oxford Road today. I know that the road I live on was flattened by bombs during the Manchester Blitz. Thanks for your post!

  • @OBKEY103 You must live in one of them posh apartments then eh?

  • @rightfredsdead I live in Salford now! Hope hospital (renamed Salford royal for some confusing reason) is huge! It has a small shopping centre in it.

Salford docks is now Salford quays and has an art gallery dedicated to L.S.Lowry and the first Imperial war museum in the north!

Its getting posh in parts but not snobby! Thats what I like best. No snobs! HAHAHA.

  • @Archin04 Look at how many we're repaired! :D

  • 69 years ago this night :(

  • Thanks for the Manchester footage. Much appreciated.

  • So many countries lost so much culture and history. Prague is one of the few cities that wasn't bombed to crap during the whole affair.

  • @Georgiahulse A lot of these places are still here today. I recognize what the commentary called Piccadilly which is actually Piccadilly Gardens.

The Royal exchange is still here called the Royal exchange theater now.

Manchester cathedral is still here but judging from the video it must have been mostly rebuilt . Its far more modern of course but I can just about recognize the places! =D

  • @Georgiahulse Manchester's been bomb blasted many many times . 40s and 90s...

  • Great post.

  • I can recognise everything I see in this video, so sad to see how badly we all suffered :(

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z Tough us titties us Brits! :P

  • my grandmother used to talk about the mass graves in southern cemetery and the days of smoke in the air from burning buildings....what a strong generation...what a shame the politicians of today chose to forget the sacrifice they made and continue to make, regardless of how badly they run our country This is what our children should see to make them understand the stake they have by sheer survival, in their own land.

  • rapidset- in my opinion it is precisely because of what that generation went through, we should be grateful for what we actually do have in the UK today. Maybe if people weren't so cynical about today's generation this would be a happier country. In regards to 'the politicians' they are only human and cannot perform miracles- and they never could.

  • i refer to the fact that record gas and electricity prices mean tremendous worry for the senior citizens also the high levels of crime and a general uncaring society we have formed is just such a half hearted, profit comes first short term hiding to nothing.i feel that fighting ww2 (as arranged by the establishment) may not seem such a worthy sacrifice in hind site for the generation we have now tossed on the heap

  • rapidset- I agree that those are real concerns. I certainly wasn't denying them. And your'e right. Senior Citezins generally have a much harder time than they should in this country. But I think its wrong to dismiss an entire generation because there are problems within it. What purpose does that serve? Many things are troubling right now, but its never all bad. Crime is allways depressing but I think it has went down overall (no comfort to victims. The media will pick and choose what to report.

  • @rapidset The politicians of today have sold Britain to the EU... I vote UKIP!

  • i cant watch this without a tear to me eye, my oh my the old piccadilly gardens. (St.Annes and the triangle (corn exchange-deansgate.)

  • I had to watch this after watching a couple of vids about Dresden that moaned about what a terrible crime that bombing was... be careful what you sow.

  • I think its hard now to really comprehend the courage and fear of the WW2 bombing raids- Birmingham, Belfast, Manchester, London, Hamburg, Dresden, Coventry, Sheffield, Liverpool, Cologne- so many cities so many lives

  • im from manchester and i never knew just how bad they suffered. god bless em. thanks for the vid.

  • @sharples01 Same!

  • the dead were buried in a mass grave in southern cemetary dug by an excavator due to all the able men being at war

  • firecrackers

  • nice vid
