These photos were taken from a book commemorating the workers at Wixom. I have this book somewhere, as my uncle worked at the plant as an industrial relations rep. He is the one driving the golf cart-like vehicle about half way through. Great memories.
I think they should roll these off the line again just like they were back then. If they ever did I'd be first in line to buy one. The music in the back ground is kick butt to. Anyone know who this music is by?
The Lincoln most likely was modified from a regular
car. Maybe by Budd corp.
It also may have been a 61 updated to a 63. I did notice the 50's hubcaps. Most likely because the car has 15 inch wheels and 61-65 Lincolns had 14 inch rims.
I may have brought a car from your dad. I shopped at Thompson Ford which became Spitzer
The JFK '61 LC Limo SS100X was modified by Hess & Eisenhardt using a stock '61 LC convertible. In 1962 the front grille was replaced with that from the '62 model alongwith '56-'57 Lincoln Premier wheels. LC's from 1961 to 1963 had 14" wheels and 1964 and 1965 LC's came with 15" wheels.
Do you have any footage of the building of the Kennedy limo? I drive thru Wixom once a week and I live in Akron, Oh, not far from Kent. My dad worked at Ford dealerships in Akron in the 40s thru 70s.
Yeah i called my uncle as soon as i saw your vid....he linked to it almost immediately, and got a big kick out of seeing himself on the internet!! He said some Ford Photographers were walking thru the plant one day shooting random pictures, and he was making his rounds, and someone shoved a flashlight in his hand and asked him if he would hop in that 'Bird in the water leak test cell... These pix mostly all come from a book from 1963 called "The Thunderbird Story"
Awesome photo montage...Most photos from a long out of print book by Ford Photomedia called "The Thunderbird Story" from 1963. Notice at 2:37 into the video, the gent with the flashlight is my uncle, Rod Anderson. He was a supervisor there at Wixom from its opening in 1957 until his retirement in 1984.
i agree 63 with the starliner top 4.6 v8 however they would be forced to put real bumpers on . and compeate with toyoweda building and research wage. personally i feel we could aford the satern five rocket easier....
I have a 1961 Thunderbird and finding info and nice pictures from the Wixom plant is not easy... what book is this from? Thanks for posting this video.
Coming soon!! 1961 AND 1962 Thunderbird Wixom posts. Most of these images are from internal Ford publications. This time I will add at the end detailed images of the cars new before they were shipped.

I always wondered if someone on the net would know someone in the pictures. Please tell your uncle Hi from me.
Also I have owned many 61 through 67 Thunderbirds and not a single one leaked. Great job, as was the case for all the Wixom built cars I owned.
Thank you all for building quality and care into such great cars.

@comdrsca Ask your uncle if he knew my uncle, Ted Beauregard. he retired in about 1972, I think. Passed away in 1983.
