Plus it isn't natural to force a girl to be a boy or a boy to be a girl which is why hormones will cause them to go through puberty the correct way. Better to begin the hormones before the first initial puberty rather than have to go through 2 puberties. It's a rare genetic condition.

@mimric its not that simple, one of the strong theories is that in the womb a chemical imbalance occurs that causes the brain to switch from being wired as Male to being wired as Female and or vice versa, once this rewiring is done no amount of corrective hormones will change it and introducing more male hormones only aids to confuse and harm the mind and the body, a dread of going through male puberty, of the effects of testosterone or estrogen is not uncommon, iv been there, its not fun.

@braclo93 Wrong!? Research intersex conditions like transgendered. Psychiatrists and psychologists are the ones that diagnose it and recommend the hormone treatment if it is persistent. Sometimes prior to birth the body develops in wrong ways. There are XY females out there as well as XX males. In the transgendered intersex condition like in the case of a girl with a male body the brain shows female on scans of the brain, while the body is that of the opposite sex.

@braclo93 It's more wrong to try and force them to live as a gender they are not which leads to severe depression and often suicide. Plus it isn't natural to force a girl to be a boy or a boy to be a girl which is why hormones will cause them to go through puberty the correct way. Better to begin the hormones before the first initial puberty rather than have to go through 2 puberties. It's a rare genetic condition.

People are born with birth defects, like missing sex organs, or genitalia resembling both sexes, or conjoined twins, or people born blind, etc. Variations in DNA happen all the time. Gender isn't in the brain. Gender is what you're born with. Hence why the doctor told your parents "It's a boy/girl". He didn't say "It's too early to tell because he/she hasn't made up his/her mind yet". Sexual independence is in your brain. There are hard proves that people are born with sex/gender identity (which develops thanks to prenatal hormones affecting brain structures during crutial time of development - by default it's female, there have to be androgens for male ID development). Brain develops later than sex organs.
Transsexualism seems to be in fact yet another intersex condition (which are much more common than transsexualism itself BTW).

i would say there is no such thing as absolute male and absolute female. if i were to dress as a woman and went to meet new people, they would have no idea i was a male. peoples genders are expressed physically as mostly one or the other but there is always a little crossover. what i mean to say is that we are all, at least in part, a member of both sexes. hermaphrodites end up right in the middle.
