  • Nice man.

  • one simple reason why the atari jaguar failed, was becouse it was simply never designed for true 3d graphics,it had no hardware for it,instead 3d graphics had to be done in software, but since the console was released way toooo early no game developer was ready to make 3d games, they just simply dit,nt had the software for it,also taking full advantage of the console was a huge challange.

when developers were finaly ready for 3d in 1995,the atari jaguar was allready doomed!!!!

  • I like all these vintage niche consoles. The only one I ever owned as a kid was Panasonic 3DO which was pretty cool

  • I loved cyber morph! Dino dudes was awesome too!

  • i think i am the only one liking the jag controller. it is infact my favourite! i like it better than the xbox 360 and ps3... i know...

  • Atari can never get out of the 2600 era they can not even make a 64 bit system like the n64!

  • nice lol

  • jaguar sucks u ppl clearly have not watched taco man reviews for tht sht

  • avgn said to skylar in his jaguar video "WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO BE AN ASSHOLE!" whatch his jaguar video its funny

  • @jowrab

    I might, but I don't have 'em. Can't review what I don't own.

  • By the way, the light on mine is green. Was that the case for all PAL Jags?

  • Watch those edges, they're sharp! I can confidently say that as one of the three people in the UK who seems to own a Jaguar.

  • Awesome video my friend!

  • my b i laughed so hard at 1:42 all the way to 1:47

  • Great overview so far. I love my Jaguar. It's been hooked up nearly constantly since I bought it at clearence at K.B. Toys for $39. I like playing Cybermorph, but only because I finally got good enough so that I I never hear "where did YOU learn to fly?' anymore.

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • Why did Jaguar's 64-bit games look worse than Nintendo's 16-bit games?

  • @pqwilrj

Because graphics aren't purely a matter of technical power. A lot of it has to do with good artists, good engine design, and so on. Particularly when you're comparing 2D games. But even fairly recently in the 3D era this has been true

There are some truly spectacular looking PS2 games that look better than most other games of the time frame, despite the fact that the GameCube/Xbox are much more powerful systems

Often, who makes a game is more important than what it was made for

  • @lartrak yeah that is true, look at re4 for ps2, GREAT GRAPHICS!

  • @lartrak If I'm not mistaken, it's two 32 bit CPU's and only one of them handles the graphics. Regardless, good review man.

  • @pqwilrj IIRC, the main process in the jaguar was the Motorola 68K which is a 16 bit processor. They managed to come up with "64-bit" using some totally invalid additive measure... they added up the "bits" of the main, graphics, sound, and other processor... I think there were 4 different processors doing different things that were 16 bit so they called it 64. Someone correct me if I'm remembering this incorrectly... I guess I could just google it ;)

  • @EpicureMammon Thanks for the info.

  • why you gotta be hating on manning dude

  • Thw Shaguar-Sexiest Videogame Console Ever-Except The X-box 360,Its Beautyfull.

  • haha Brutal Football was on Amiga computers too it was fun

  • Ah, another expert opinion.

  • What games are worth getting for the Jaguar. What do you recommed? Is it worth getting this game console at all?

  • @boxerjoey38 Iron solider, Iron soldier 2, AVP, Tempest2k, Wolfenstein3D, Doom, Ultra Vortec, Dino dudes, ummm RayMan, Theres a channel Biffsgammingvideos that has like every possible to find game,

id say go there and view the videos for games that seem interesting to you

  • sounds like you got baaad cottonmouth

  • That's mostly the mic, FWIW.

  • Star Fox is a total esthetics thing, cybermorph uses those gawdy colors and balck background (on early levels at least), I'd assume the colors would be trying to create a fantacy type environment, but they really are ugly.

But cybermorph is far more colorful, way more colors on screen (star fox uses 16-colors for the entire polygon layer -albeit modifies the palette and uses dynamic dithering to optimize for this) and awesoem gouraud shading. Framerate is definitely a lot lower on Star Fox.

  • we are even faked by nintendo, yes i 1# tout snes can only pholyfony sound, but when i first heard the music in donkeykong country i tout the snes was technically cd quality capable, even in the magazines and guy from nintendo told me the snes could handle cd quality sound.

even batman forever and return of the joker was stated to have cd quality sound, what a lie!!!!!

oke our limmited ears will maybe percieve it as c quality, richt?

  • nope, NES is a good bit short of that, it;s 16-bit resolution like CD, but compressed (ADPCM) not raw PCM like CD, and limited to 32 kHz max (opposed to 44.1 KHz CDDA), though samples are often far less than that. Then there's the forced interpolation and filtering, somewhat necessary to remove artifacts from low sample-rate playback, but being forced removes any possible crispness of high-sample rate playback.

  • avp was really good

  • It's rather poor next to the doom port though, simple wolf3D type map layout square grid), and lower framerate.

  • I just got to say, These reviews have inspired me 100% to get a jaguar (I got it for a good price with AVP and Iron soldier) so thank you and your really good at reviewing.

  • Where did YOU learn to fly?

  • No conclusion?

  • Did you watch the other two?

  • Nice Video. I collect vintage systems and I have been looking at either getting a Jaguar or a 3DO which one would you recommend getting first.

  • Great job on the video! Nice to hear your opinions.

I was the same as you... I could care less about anything Atari released at this point and had no interest in owning one. Nor did I know anyone who owned one.

I wound up buying one a few years ago for my retro collection, but that is just for collecting purposes.

This console has got to be one of the worst ever. The controller is just god awful, mostly horrible games, I could go on and on...

  • I actually thought the controller was pretty good.

  • yeah most people think the number pad was bad i think its good because cause it made it easy to change weapons

  • Actually you can play as the non-human teams in Brutal Sports Football.

  • How can you in single player?

  • I don't know about the main tournament mode but in the unfriendlies there's a team select screen. You just cycle through all the human teams before you get to the lizardmen, goats and rhinos.

  • How silly, why did Atari have to keep that keyboard thing? That didn't work in the eighties, and it defiantly wouldn't work in the nineties.

  • i have a jaguar with a jaguar cd i got that when i only was 1 year old lol!

  • I have the japanese jaguar, the pack in game is alien versus jaguar. I bought it for avp.

  • I don't think they ever released a japanese jaguar, they made a PAL version though. Plus, the Jaguar was actually made in America, probably the reason why there is no Japanese equivalent.

  • I have the japanese jag, with avp as pack in game, it comes with both jap. and english instructions for both the console and avp.

  • I have avp with english/french/german whatever and japanese instruction manuals

  • I just got a Jaguar from ebay with CM,T2000,and AVP!

I really thought it wasnt that bad. I acually liked the graphfics of AvP! And yeah, when I first saw the back of my Jaguar, I was like HOLY SHIT! But I found out later it was nothin.

  • Wow, you had some bad luck as a kid, huh? Getting the Sega Nomad and discovering the joys of non-portability and lacking battery life, and getting an Atari Jaguar only to discover that it's an Atari Jaguar?

Did you also get a Game Gear?

  • I asked for the Jaguar for Christmas, so I don't know if that's bad luck. But yeah, heh.

I did have a Game Gear. It's the only system of any kind I've ever sold. Guess what other (better) portable I bought with the money?

As far as bad luck.. What was a much bigger waste of time is my Jaguar CD. That's my personal vote for worst system (if an expansion counts as a system) of all-time - definitely the worst one I have owned, anyway.

I might do a review of it later - mine still works!

  • So you were "that kid"? That's rough.

I'd really like to see what you think of the Jaguar CD. Those things are uber rare.

  • I'm just trying to find more games for it. There's only about a dozen or so titles, and I have four of them. I'd like to get at least 8 or 9 titles, then I'll make a review of it.

Highlander for Jag CD is probably the most broken and borderline unplayable game I have for a console.

  • Agreed, I have 9 of the 13 original Jaguar CD releases and they are horrible. Highlander is an absolute disgrace, and is miserably tough to play. But Battlemorph, Primal Rage, and Dragon's Lair are good titles. I wish I could get a copy of Braindead 13 though.

  • what is so bad about the jaguar cd?

  • It only has about a dozen games for a start. Second, it's very unreliable. Third, even of those dozen games, several of them are REALLY BAD or ports from other systems. And fourth, it's ugly.

  • Comment removed

  • you said it was unreliable, what would you think happened if someone made their own jag cd?

  • Cool review.

Try to hunt down the six-button "Pro Controller" there quite cheap and are much nicer and easier to use than the standard controller, especially with FPS'.

  • Yeah, I'd like one, but they're hard to find. Pretty rare even on eBay.

  • i checked on amazon and you can get a atari jaguar for 50 british pounds which is 82 american dollars

  • where did you learn to be an asshole?! quote angry video game nerd (avgn)

  • Yeah, kind of funny. My review of the Jag is only about two weeks older than his.

  • I used to play BRUTAL sports Football on the PC :)

  • Green bitch: Where did you learn to fly? Where did you learn to fly?

I've been considering to get a jaguar for the nice console conversion of Wolfenstein but I didn't see any other titles worth nabbing :\

  • Brutal..Sports..

    Awesome.

  • Awesome review i like how you dont try to be cool like other critics 5 stars and a subscription!

  • where did you learn to fly

  • Damn i need a shirt saying that

  • Now this is good review made by a lesser known dude. Great job, dude. The amount of horrible "retrospectives" is just mindblowing but diamonds in the rough like these ones are always appreshed.

  • Where did you learn? To Fly?

  • that game Cybermorph, it looked kind of rushed.

  • Very nice job with this review men !!

I'll be sure to check out your next one.

  • Very good review :-)

  • Great review. Probably one of the best I've seen on Youtube. My only critique is that there is a slight buzzing noise in the background, but it's not really much. Five stars.

  • Thanks.

And yeah, it was something wrong with my microphone. I tried noise eliminating it, but this was the best I could get. I have a new, much better one now, so hopefully my next reviews will sound better.

  • Great reviews, i got a Jaguar with cd drive and some games a few years ago, but traded it for something else, i wish now if kept it, for alien versus predator, and some others.

  • COOL

  • Nice! Very Nice! If you get a chance, Grab Tempest 2000, Defender 2000 & I might add that Kasumi ninja is one of the Goryest games i've ever played! Would LOVE a review of those. But thanks for all the effort dude. Nice one.
