Abdullah could wrestle in a scientific fashion hands down. However he always had to stay in character! There are few matches where he wins Championships without the use of foriegn objects. His focus is on a scientific wrestling. He was the biggest star!Top draw!Every top wrestlers wanted a piece of the Madman!I remember one night in Quebec City! 10,000 fans showed to see Abdullah and Nick Bockwinkle Vs. Dino Bravo and Rick Martel! The match lasted more then 30 minutes! It was simply fabulous!
One of the greaest matches I ever saw (from Japan) was Destroyer vs Abby. Great match! And a very rare loss for Destroyer in Japan. I believe it was for Destroyer's US Belt. Destroyer was soaked in blood...another rarity. Weird to see Robinson and Abdullah....wow.
Abby has fought everybody in wrestling. He started off in the late 50's when he was known as Zelis Amara. In 67', he turned into the hardcore monster that we know today as Abdullah the Butcher, in a recent shoot I saw of him he says that The Sheik had alot of influence on him and saw him as sort of a mentor to him and he also had alot of respect for his favorite opponent Terry Funk.
That is true about the Judo. That is sort of how i knew him. Dad used to play cards with Abdullah pretty much every weekend or he would come over for a BBQ back in the 70's, when DULA lived part time in Calgary. My Dad knew him as Big Larry, He was sort a quiet guy but funny. He would give me money to get myself something from the corner store & get him a (cuban lunch) they were square choclate bars. He is actually from Canada. He must be 60.
Did Abby serve BBQ after the match?

I love Billy! He was a like a Bob Backlund with charisma.
Does anyone know whether Abby ever fought Ox Baker? I would think that would have been a nutty match.

now I have seen it all a relitive scientific wrestling match from Abdullah and he is relatively slim so this must be from the 70's

One thing is for sure, would not want to meet the butcher in a dark alley!

I thought this was going to be the real wrestling where they hurt each other. Why do you all talk about it like it's real?

Abby is a nut. For his day he had an insanely violent style....headbuts attacking the throat, and of course THE FORK

Amazing Billy got him up for that back breaker.Anyone who saw Billy Robinson circa 1972-75 really saw a great great wrestler.

Geez, how early did Abdullah start blading? Seems to me like he started right out of the womb. I swear those scars have always been on his forehead.

1979-1981 was a good period for Abdullah. He was fat, but NOT obese and he fought guys like Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan, Billy Robinson and Terry Funk.
