  • wow.. so many people rallying..

  • unity of all students!

  • stop wars! and fast and furious operations against Mexico!

    Protest that !!!

  • are these guys supposed to be in college? wow

  • haha i haven't seen this at any other school. i have but not this concentrated. classes must be cake with that much time on ur hands

  • Great Job! In Solidarity, ~Angry Tired Teachers

  • Your teachers' UNION is the reason why we are in this mess! The CA teachers UNION have catered to ILLEGALS because it means more dues for your UNION. ILLEGALS that drop out of High School, join gangs, and have 4 or 5 kids on welfare! ILLEGALS that do not contribute to the tax revenue but waste it! The CA tax payer are left footing the bill with increases in TAXES, TUITION, and BUSINESSES going bankrupt = HENCE CA is BROKE!!!

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor I think your caps lock key is BROKE!!!

  • I guess ILLEGALS TAXING CA into a recession is your idea of a funny JOKE. You probably never paid taxes because you are still a student running up your parents credit cards, so that you and them will be in debt now living at home and with a basket weaving degree will only find work at a Burger Joint making minimum wage paying off your $40000 student loan. Your FUTURE IS BROKE!

  • more weak and whiney california jackasses demanding free stuff.

this is what happens when liberals get loose.

I look forward to the day they auction off all the public buildings and property, then when all the free crap is gone the hippies and freeloaders will have to find jobs and maybe the grownups can take over again.

  • Weak and whiney hippies? Maybe you are right. In Austria, we also tried to negotiate with the state, while having occupied our universities for one month. The French way is better. They organised a general strike! Workers and students together will never be stopped. If the rich don't obey, they simply create conflict costs, strike, occupy, take hostages, burn down factories. The existance of stupid people like you, shows only the brutal way works

  • If the rich don't obey you will burn down stuff huh?

we call that shitting where you eat.

where did all your little computer things come from? do you think your drum circle could make a monitor?

progressives are commie idiots and we wont keep supporting you lazy asses much longer.

  • I have working class background and know what working means. The workers - produce everything, not the lazy capitalists, that don't work, but get most of the profit. Lazy? Lol, you should not call me that, if you don't know me.

  • "working class background" what does that mean? do you have a job? Ill bet not. but if you did who do you suppose you would work for? and then what would you do for a job if you burned them out of the state?

where do you think all the money that the government hands out comes from?

  • Working class background means, that I am from a socialist, working class district in Vienna. However, I am finishing my studies in both economy and law and work at an consultancy firm. I am the contrary of lazy, but still have not forgot, where our grandfathers came from. We need higher taxes, especially on capital gains. The rich don't need that much. The quality of life in a wellfare state is just better - for all, even for the rich! You only care about money, not people

  • parasite, worm, dependent of the state, thats the lowest form of life yet.

Go wait in your parents box for the next handout from you betters.

  • entitled little gits like you wouldn't even know what they want for free if it wasn't for the riches created by capitalism. when you grow up and see how the filthy commies have duped you into endless servitude and want , what will you do? blame Bush? more likely blame America for not sending you enough borrowed money.

  • As already mentioned, I am working and paying taxes. Probably more than you. And yes, I would like to pay even more taxes, if the living conditions of all can be improved.

As rousseau said, in the relation between strong and poor liberty is slavery. I hope that you will understand one day. It is funny that you mention debts. Debts are the result of not taxing the rich. The debts of the US will never end, if you continue to lick the ass of the capitalist class.

  • you worthless commie, you protest that you care about people while communism piles up the bodies of the ones you want to "help" . has history taught you nothing?

  • You should learn some history. Who brought democracy to Austria, who smashed monarchy, who fought for education, health care and housing for the poor. Who was in the resistance against the fascists?

It was the socialist movement. You are a very indoctrinated and extremist person, your capitalist dream is a nice theory, but in just does not work in reality

  • @nonameposter Capitalism DOES work but only under the proper checks and balances. It has worked for 235 years in America. Founders like Thomas Jefferson hated large corporations, they were for small business. Later, Unions kept things in balance. Without the checks and balances, Capitalism can be just as bad a communism or fascism. Multi-national corporations now rule and Unions in the USA are a joke. This must change or capitalism will destroy itself from its own greed.

  • @astrofrk We haven't been true capitalism since 1913..the federal reserve took over our government.

  • @gangstamind187 OK, I can go with that. The media tries to pit OWS against Teapartiers and that's just divide-and conquor propoganda. We are all Americans and we are all pissed off the way the govornment is wasting our money to send our jobs overseas. Other than the 1%, we are ALL going down and political parties don't mean shit

when there are no jobs. Start with abolishing the Federal Reserve and go back to using precious metals to back our money instead of debt.

  • Ah silly morons, the world is run by buisness and engineering...not politics

  • I am really prod of these people but where is the money going to come from if not the students. I'm sure this was the last resort. just wondering

  • UC has reserves in the billions of dollars that could be tapped, or UC could redirect its fundraising abilities, or use other sources of income such as the highly profitable medical centers, or call for a mild pay cut for the thousands of six-figure administrators.

  • This is your Obama government at work folks. Funny right after Obama takes over, a YEAR LATER YOU HAVE THIS CRAP. What does that look like to you people? What country does that look like to you. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The country has been run into the toilet, and now they have a leader to take it all down... Obama

  • @Papavalium

Obama is not related to the UC fee hikes, it's from the California state budget cuts. It has nothing to do with Obama.

  • I thought the states were getting Bailouts? I think we had a stimulus. Only thing stimulated is the BIG GOVERNMENT HANDS. And yes, now Obama is that man.

  • Obama love unions. Unions have bankrupt California. Billions of tax dollars are wasted on Unions catering to illegals and social welfare, leaving the college paying tax families bankrupt and hence CA bankrupt! Unions do not create jobs for tax revenue for higher education!!!

  • Not unions, foreigners or wellfare but the capitalist crisis and the lack of taxing the rich is the reason behind a bankrupt US. Unions create better living conditions. This is a fact.

Just use your brain and rethink your crazy slogans. What must happen until people like you stop fighting against their own interests??

  • Calling the Regents greedy or lazy just makes a mockery out of any argument. The Regents are in a difficult position deciding whether to cut programs, lay of staff and reduce the quality of education. The Regents did the right thing and these professional protesters are selfish whiners.

  • yup, kind of true about the school admin, the Liberal Lunatics that ran this state for the last 40 years are to blame. Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer are our Senators and they don't do shit for California. They don't do shit for anyone but themselves.

    Liberal Lunatic Democrats=Problem

Solution=throw each one of them out, and bring back an actually Government. If not keep head in sand and come out in 10 years and ask same questions.

  • Berkeley students paying 1/3 of what it would cost in a private school for top-grade education. With $500 million cut from UC budget there was no other way to operate short of laying off professors and closing campuses. The hike only affects those whos families make more that $70k a year and low-income students do not face the hike. The hike itself is from $8,000 a year for UC undgergrad to 10k...hardly calamitous. The fact that the state is broke supporting all sort of social programs.

  • Then explain why an 8% reduction in funding from the state is resulting in a 32% increase in student fees? If you don't think an increase from $8K to $10K, then you really are missing the point. It's not because of lack of funding from the state. It's greed, laziness, and selfishness from the Regents.

  • Because 8% of the state funding, is 32% of the Funding UC's get. State funds lets say are down 8% which equals 1 billion lets say. If 1 billion eqauls half or a third of the UC budget then that's 33 or a 50 % rake hike they need to cover it i hope you got it if not here's easier example.

1% of 100 is 1, not much money

    1% of 1 mil is 10,000

1% is not much when you are talking small numbers. State funding is huge compared to the UC student fees.hence a large increase was equal to the 8%

  • Revolution Starts Now! This is life or death my friends!

  • I don't see any MSNBC crews directing or funding this protest. THIS IS LEGIT, not some Faux noise propaganda.

  • What most people don't realize is that the universities account for a good portion of the local economies where they are located. And they contribute to a state's future wealth by bringing in more high-end jobs.

  • People should realize that the reason tuition fees are increase is because this is part of the policy of the Bilderbergers policy maker to dumb down America. Check out the book Pawns in the game by William Guy Carr and many similar books on the NWO. This happened in the UK too several years ago now but very few protested. There is money but it os being used for wars and conflicts to hasten the NWO. Time for America to wake up. You are the beckon of Hope for freedom to free education.

  • in the days of old, only the rich were educated. we will be going back to those times shortly, like it or not.

i am a cal grad - was born in a better age, the 80s. nowadays I see cal grads working as cashiers at Target in Albany CA ... I've done my share of retail too but at least it's a job. Other people can't even get one.

    best wishes.

  • With budget cuts hurting everyone, why do these students think they are any different from the rest of us. The university is in debt, how would you like them to pay for the classes you attend? They needed to raise tuition to pay for the education you receive. What was the alternative? Protest all you want but it means nothing if you can't propose a viable solution yourselves.

  • fucking hippies

  • Something like that is really needed in Imperial Valley and San Diego area, universities are discouraging HS students and Community Colleges students by almost refusing the admit, instead of helping us to progress, they want to leave us behind in ignorance.

  • This is the reason I LOVE berkeley!!!!

  • Arnold let Liberals and unions walk all over him, thats why California is broke. Texas should teach California about how pass a budget, Texas gets it, California doesn't

  • @frankiebaby725 seriously... what do you know? the UC system owns the University of Texas system in every aspect of education.

  • As far as academics? maybe. Alumni? Endowments? Texas, all the way.

  • @frankiebaby725 uh yeah. i think you should count academics first. and yes... texas has a long way to keep up with berkeley and ucla. have fun with that.

  • As a resident of Texas I agree, we don't seem to be having the problems California does. I wonder why?

  • Thank You, I'm not even from Texas (Philadelphia). I really wish Pennsylvania would adopt some fiscal policies that mirror what Texas has. There's a big reason why every public institution in California has monetary issues, and it relates directly to the state and local governments. Take a hint, Cali, and while your at it, get better accountants. Morons.

  • @Frankiebaby725

You should take note that Arnold is REPUBLICAN.

  • @BryChe87

You should take note that Arnold is the only thing Republican about California.

  • arnold aint no republican hes god damned fence sitter

  • WOW! COMMIE CENTRAL!

Take away the money and they will wither on the vine! CUT, CUT, CUT ! Cut the budget to the bone! Then cut it more!!!

  • This is great! But they made a mistake by walking out and not locking themselves and the administration in and taking the campus in the process. Keeping classes as usual and negotiating a commitment impose budget cuts.

  • They need to hijack the admin building if they want real results.

    Or blackmail the regents.

  • Surely the UC system will give us money now! They were just testing us if we wanted it enough. Nothing says "GIMME MONIES" like a bunch of tards yelling shit and not going to class.

  • "Tards" going to one of the best public institutions in the world? Sure...

  • Just because CAL is a prestigious institution, does not mean that their students are correct about everything they do.

  • It was awesome in person! I'm proud to be a Cal student.

  • Go bears!

  • On those steps in 1964, Mario Savio: "There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"

  • Wish I was there! This must have been amazing to experience in person =D

  • lay him off!!!
