if you slow the train down going into the corner as well as make the corner longer (shallower turn in angle) the problem should be solved as the train wont cut in as tight causing the back end to swing out

the pendolino only hits the gates because there is a turn straight after the crossing if you put some straights after the crossing it would not hit! its common sense :)

I think the problems are as followed:

1) Your Face is strange

the problem is that you are running it on curves of a radius that the train cannot handle.

try running it on the other loop.

There is no problem with this train set apart from you have a curve right next to a level crossing, move the level crossing away from the curve and the train would not hit the gates. SIMPLE

Re the level crossing problem - that layout was never designed with the Virgin Pendolino carriages in mind. Try running your train slower, until you can get more track and room to set it up. But great train mate - DCC on board and everything. I'm jealous.
