  • Your hair is growing fast!!!!

  • @burlesqueboy1940 This is a very old video. haha. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet I feel so silly, the new youtube homepage made me think this was a newly uploaded video :(

  • @burlesqueboy1940 It did it to me too... Told me @LisaFreemontStreet uploaded a new video, and this was it! Silly YouTube and their "new" things.

  • can you do this with magnetic hair rollers?

  • The results you can create from curlers in that amount of time is amazing. Does this mean that classic hollywood actresses took half as much time to get ready then modern actresses?

  • @thoserubyslippers They certainly took less time the 'morning of'. ;-)

  • @tinkerbell020893 This was done w/ foam rollers, not hot rollers...these rollers arevery inexpensive...

  • FABULOUS TUTORIAL!

  • This look suits you. You should become a model of 50's fasion!

  • One day, I will brush out my curls right ;P

  • This look is so wonderfully flattering on you. You're lovely to begin with, yet I feel this adds a bit of "oomph" to you. Not sure how else to put it. :)

  • what hair dye id that?

  • You look good with thicker brows

  • You don't even know how much I adore Ava Gardner. She is one of my all time favorite old Hollywood starlets. Her beauty and class are unparalleled! As always, your talent does her this look justice :) x

  • @ClassyfaceNYC Sally's Beauty Supply has them...

  • i have thick curly hair..will the rollers still work? or do i have to straighten it first :/

my hair is VERYYY curly. you can see it in some of my videos.

  • @SASHAxai You might not have to straighten it...Ava's hair was curly too but she used pin curls to harness the curls. Try large pin curls and setting lotion...

  • @LisaFreemontStreet pin curls are when you twist it and pin with a bobby pin right? and will setting lotion damage my hair at all? if i do try the rollers should i try larger ones or smaller ones. my hairs pretty long but when its curly its much shorter..

  • @SASHAxai I don't use bobby pins...I pin it with a double pronged clip. See my pin curl videos. No, setting lotion won't damage your hair at all. :)

  • Love it! one of your best! and your makeup looks great here!

  • So pretty! I dont think it would suit me though : (

  • I love it absolutely gorgeous

  • LOVE THIS HAIRSTYLE! BEAUTIFUL! :) and I like that first song too, very relaxing song! :)

  • Hi Lisa! Could you do an Olive Oyl look for Halloween?

  • @nickipalindrome I'm planning an Olive Oyl look very soon but not for Halloween...I don't celebrate. But keep an eye out for the vid. :)

  • Great video Lisa. Emulating the classic looks of Hollywood is such a great idea

  • I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOUR VIDEOS!!!! KEEP'EM COMING!

  • Love the video. You make everything loks so easy and you pull off all your looks so beautifully.

I tried this look using sponge rollers (I used medium rollers), when I took them out I was amazed by how tight and well they held (I just dampened slightly before rolling each one), but even after brushing them out I looked more like "Annie" ( like little orphan annie) instead of Ava Gardner.

Should I move up to the large rollers or what do you think went wrong?

  • @btotten Keep in mind that if you roll the crown of your head or you roll all the way to the scalp, you'll look like Annie! Retro styles never included a set that rolled all the way to the scalp. Keep the curlers loose and around your hairline. If your hair has natural curl to it (like Ava's), you might also try the larger rollers or rolling larger sections, taking into account that if you roll larger sections, the hair will take longer to dry. Just keep practicing! :)

  • @btotten Just realized I did roll all the way to the scalp in this style but that's because my hair is stick straight and I wanted the curls to look natural! LOL Sorry about that...but do keep the crown untouched. :)

  • Oh this is absolutely gorgeous! I'll keep this video in mind for future hair styles!

You should come to California and do my hair for me! haha.

  • Thank you so much Lisa!

im going to this event for the 1st year of a vegan cupcake shop herein my town and they love pin up stuff so im doing my hair like this :D

  • Completely off topic, but you have such lovely arms!

  • I tried to roll it like this last night. close, but forgot to roll the top ones upward. still pretty cool look. Especially with my hair being so fine, it looked thicker. :) thanks again for all your posts!

  • @LisaFreemontStreet I mean towards more 20's and 30's. I love all of your videos. I feel like you focus on more 50's area, I love it, you pull off every look you upload.

  • @diamondgirlcici right, I focus on the 40's and 50's. I don't feel the 20's and 30's are as attractive. But I do have and plan some looks from those eras.

  • so very gorgeous. now i know what to do when i accidentally wind up with too-tight curls!

  • Thank you! Going to do this style this weekend for a wedding, but going to do it with a curling iron, because rollers NEVER work for me...so what, as long as something works right?! Thanks for the awsome tutorial once again!

  • You look beautiful. Thanks for playing Sioux City Sue. That's my Dad's favorite song; he's 87 and it reminds him of his WWII days :)

  • Beautiful another great video, I love curls but I akways use a curling iron and I always wanted to try the rollers but not sure what are the best ones to get hot or the sponge for my hair? I have short hair bob to the bottom of my neck, the other thing is how long would you leave them on and is it better with damped hair or dry with a little hairspray? this is new to me I want to try. I love Ava so pretty:) thank you again:)

  • @kittenluve68 If you are into retro hair styles, I recommend Hot Sticks as a heated set and a set of foam (sponge) rollers as well. Both are good for different things...the foam roller styles will hold better than the heated sets. I use both types of sets in many of my videos. And I usually dampen my hair before doing a cold set.

  • Fabulous, love it!

  • This hairstyle looks best on You .

Very beautiful . You should wear Youre hair like this more often

  • Those were the hell of tigh curls right out of the sponge rollers, and the final result is great.

  • LOVE this style, defiantly going to have to try this one out :)

  • Beautiful Ash:) x

  • @LetzMakeup *blushing* :)

  • I'm so happy you did this! Ava Gardner is hands down my favorite femme fatale!

  • You look absolutely stunning!! LOVE this style, will use it in a photoshoot! :D

  • Absolutely gorgeous! I love your little details like the Ava brows and the one-sided sash :) what an expert!

  • i love your videos!! you're just adorable;)

  • Oh hooray!!! I have A LOT of hair, so it's nice to see a style which lets me utilize that volume, as opposed to trying to tame it. Thanks so much! Another wonderful video!

  • This is my everyday look, just brush out and spray! I love your videos, very inspiring!!!

  • Gorgeous style!!!! I love your videos!!

Would it be possible to do this style without sponge rollers, perhaps hot rollers or a pincurl set? I have dead straight shoulder-length hair with layers! Or should I invest in a set of sponge rollers? Thanks! <3

  • @princessheff I think pin curls would work better than hot rollers. But yes, you should invest in a set of sponge (foam) rollers! A 10.00 investment can't be beat!

  • who is Ashley?

  • @grlcheeks1 LisaFreemontStreet is Ashley that's her real name :)

  • you know u make such a cute pouty face when ur doing ur hair i love it makes me laugh :)

  • @adg135 I really can't help it! LOL

  • I wish my hair would look as gorgeous as yours! My hair's too curly and frizzy to come out this nice.

  • @theLadySpies you should read Ava's auto biography. Her hair was very curly and frizzy too...this was Hollywood styling. She had a difficult time in her day to day styles too.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet ...Did she ever mention anything that helped it look nicer?

  • @theLadySpies I think she mentioned an oil but I'm not sure...

  • Love this song! And your hairstyle and you, are beautiful a usual!

  • @Chivopuro thanks, doll. :)

  • This unfortunately won't play on my iPhone...I get the error that this user does not allow playback on the iPhone, although I can watch other videos of yours. A wrong setting, perhaps??

  • @flashnflaky probably just a glitch. :)

  • Gorgeous! I do a similar look to this as my every day 'go-to' hairstyle

  • One can`t but love what your doing, Ashley- always the best!

  • ava gardiner is seriously gorgeous!!!

  • I would love for you to do more early 1900's looks.

  • @diamondgirlcici Hmmm...like what period of the decade? I've done several looks based on the 20's and 30's. I tend towards the styles I like best, however, and so those looks will be less frequent than 40's and 50's styles.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet maybe some 1910's looks? or a waterwave, tightwave look, like a flapper? anyway... whatever the look, allways give you the thumbs up!

  • @laylafrackiewicz I'm not a fan of those looks really. I don't find them as attractive. But I certainly would make a video utilizing those techniques more if I had short hair. Fingerwaves/flapper looks don't go w/ long hair. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet I wish we didn't live on opposite sides of the US, I'd let you do whatever you want to my short hair =D

  • At 2:17 "Gilda, are you decent?" "Who? Me? [awkward pause] Sure, I'm decent" :D lol sorry, couldn't resist!

  • you're very pretty!kisses from Spain!

  • Love it love it love it. I'm glad you have poker straight hair (I do too! Amazingly so!) because it gives me hope that I can do this! :D

  • I was just wishing I had an Ava tutorial to follow the other day! You are a dream! Thanks lovely!

  • Fantastic as always. Your eyebrows are a lovely shape.

  • Gorgeous per usual. :)

  • The side & rear views of this style are as lovely as the front! You make it look so easy! Request- Have you seen Marilyn Monroe on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine? I would love love love to see you recreate that look. She has big "S" curls kinda. Classic gorgeousness!

  • @mingus107 yes, I love that style. I hesitate to try something so iconic w/out the proper haircut for that style though...I do intend to try it someday.

  • This is beautiful. I love your makeup too!

  • @Heddo30 thanks heddo!

  • LOVE LOVE THANK YOU LOVE THE STYLE IAM GOING TO TRY IT THANK YOU AGAIN I DO LOVE HER VSTYLES AND DRESS IN THE MOVIES A GOOD ACCESTRESS

  • I love this! May have to give it a try but my hair is so over processed from the bottom half being bleached I usually get more frizz than anything.

  • Do you have any tips for sleeping with rollers in? I find it really uncomfortable.

  • @violetfirefly6 I can usually find a comfortable spot but I guess it's just 'getting used to it' that works best. Keeping the crown flat helps too...you can sleep on the flat spot but you'll probably snore. :)

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. please show the blouse you were wearing. It looks incredible. Please? I loved this video. I have those natural curls with the volume, but a little too much puff and it looks like i have a fro instead. lol. You're beautiful doll :)

  • @vgfigue LOL...it is a tube top w/ a scarf tied over and around one shoulder. ;-)
