well what do you expect ? indian music on a guitar sounds like playing a monomelodic instrrument. in fact the SOUND of a sitar is quite different. but you probably ment the way of playing. and its NOT doodeling, listen really. theres an introduction, a hookline, improvisations, a rythmic setting (probably to a certain indian 4/4 rythm) . if you get into indian music theory you might discover what it means to play this sort of music. its mastership, like ravi shankar.

this guitar is sounding more like a sitar...it lacks the ornaments of guitar...like chord harmony...its sounding like scale doodling...or say raaga doodling...
in raga jog the glide between g and s during descent is very important.and on an acoustic guitar unless its modified it would be impossible i think but i could be wrong.
hey man how come you don't accept the truth.. its like me saying i can play chords on my flute.. which I obviously cannot.. and i can live with that...
No actually its nothing like you saying that you can play chords on your flute...because you can play ragas on a sitar and you can also play ragas on a guitar. I suggest you buy the book Guitar Atlas: India....its a good one and I think it will help you with your guitar endeavors...perhaps you will become more enlightened and realize that anything is possible on the guitar. Just keep playing and believe in yourself!
everything depends on player and how skillful he is. Music is not bound by any instrument and I lv when ppl try our Indian claasical with western instrument( Haromnium and Violin are western-how many ppl know that and now days most ppl use that). Hats off to Mr. Kapil. Amazing, superb playing.
while i was searching for the vigyan bahairava tantra, (the 112 meditation techniques) i found this amazing music. im a big fan of artists like pink floyd and al demeolia and this guy is just amasing! this is what true art is and i hope you follow your bliss and reach your samadhi.
indian music is the root for much other styles inclusive of harmonic and gypsy scales.while those scales are based on western intervals, indian music utilizes microtones which is less than a half step.I strongly suggest you explore on guitar the harmonic scale for an Indian-like sound.
Youre right - I am totally taken by the harmonic minor scale these days - but it still does not sound like the rags in my head. I am Pakistani so I think I have a preconceived notion of what a rag should sound like. The problem is I learned the guitar in a very diatonic western fashion and unlearning that style is hard. And not being able to hit microtones on a guitar, without bending, is a problem. I plan on sitting down with a sarangi or a sitar ustaad to better my technique. Thanks you.
Definitely.India incl. Pakistan represents an entire world by itself. The guitar is great but cannot provide what it wasn't meant to.Your Indian instruments will deliver the real deal.
very very very cool playing , just the tone of the guitar was kida a twangy , try playing this with an ovation keep up the good work you've good good technique wish there was a video to accompany the audio
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME is all I can say..... By not having toooo many instruments you have given this the purity that makes it even more enjoyable. Please keep posting more ragas like this....
It wouldn't really make sense, because Indian music doesn't allow for key changes, or changes in the scale, or anything that might change the character of the raag. I encountered this when I first picked up the sitar, and found it was impossible to play chords on it. Now I know why.
NICE!!

Great work! I know that Indian Classical music is modal music, but did you ever try to put chords over raga's melodies ?

Great job. Where can we find the chords?
manugauravmusic 5 years ago
the chords are made out of the Raga notes flattened second and seventh in the scale.
