In fact, just to give lay people an inside view on great coaching, notice in this video (from 1:18- ) that the coach watches the girl practice her front tuck, tells her to do it again, gives her a correction, and even pushes her to go for it when the girl slightly hesitates. The second front tuck, coach sees that the girl is 'on' and jumps right in and yells 'there it is, GO!', then spots her thru a combination. Takes a HIGHLY experienced coach to know how to spot, when to push, etc.
This is so true. And when she yells things repeatedly like "ARMS!" she's actually giving a very important reminder. If you don't lift your arms and chests immediately after skills you risk landing short and hurting yourself. And knowing when to push is so important. When a gymnast misses a skill, it's so crucial they get back up and do it again to break the fear that can begin to grow.
That woman is actually an excellent teacher and spotter; gymnastics isn't for the faint of heart or sissy's. So much of training is mental and psychological preparation; these girls are training routines that could be fatal if performed incorrectly. Coaches teach in this militant style to prepare the gymnasts for the rigors of GYMNASTICS!
ok at most gyms i compete at, there r dese big lites. im afraid dat when i do anything going backwards, i ll look at the lites and freek out. any tips?
But you should be really focus on what your doing (the skills) instead of the lights. Believe, when you have on your "big lights" and "have to catch that Gienger", I think your mind is going to be more worried about the Gienger than the lights lol
Seriously, try to put away all the "bad" thoughts away when you do gymnastics.
When I do gymnastics, there's only me and the apparatus. Try to think that. Remember a great gymnast can compete anywhere! U can do it!
lol I know what u mean. There's a gym at where I compete, and there are no lights on bars!!!! Could u imagine????? It's terrible!!! And on sunsets, the sun gets into your eyes! I have to close my eyes! Or only one eye! hahaha same thing on beam! I have to close only one eye 'cause I have to see the beam lol
Try closing 1 eye or close just a little bit both eyes.
Thank you1 Thats gonna help. I don't really have 2 worry about it yet since I'm only Level 5, but there is only one beam at my gym I can do Back walkovers on, and its in the cornere where there are no ligts. Thank you very much
i hav a really bad aerial cartwheel, but do u think its possible 4 me 2 learn a front aerial? i try it in2 pit some times. my coach won't teach me. she says first my round-off 2 backhandsprings needs 2 b perfect first
Of course you can!!!! You have to give some time....
But I think your coach is right: you gotta first learn and master the basics, so later you can focus on harder skills and it's going to be easier to learn them!!! Be patient (I know sometimes is very hard because u want 2 learn new stuff)
Well, this camp it's not THE Karolyi's summer camp. But, he goes to the gym just to look that everything is in order and so we can take pictures with him.
Martha 1 time went to see our beam training. I was terrified lol
Thank you for posting this! It shows how much hard work it is just to do basic routines. I can't imagine the intensity you have to have to compete at the Olympics. I will stick to playing the guitar and just watching gymnastics to get inspired. (Guitar is WAY easier, believe me.)
And Guitar Hero and Rock Band are a lot easier than the real guitar. Try really playing - it's a lot of fun and a good stress reducer. Yes I value your work. I love the sport and your video of the training here.
Well, the camp that I went to was different than the ones that Karolyi organizes... Their camp is to experiment new skills, and play, and so... this camp is just gymnastics: no time to play, or campfire...
It all depends on what you're looking forward in the camp. But Karolyi's camp is really fun! you'll have a great time!!!
