okay both books and movie series are awesome, well written and intelligent. but don't even try to compare Tolkien to Rowling; Tolkien poured his own experiences of his time in the coffin-trenches and created this vivid universe with thousands of memorial characters and an explanation for everything. i'm sorry but Tolkien's literature overshadows Rowling's by far.

LOTR > HP, how can any of the HP fags compare it to LOTR?
The only reason HP has became more popular is because the last LOTR film was released in 2003 which is 8 years ago now so of course Hp will become more popular but when LOTR was in cinema at the same time as HP everybody went to see LOTR it's true that the HP fims have massivly gotten better and I enjoyed the films but LOTR has better characters (Take Gollum for example) and the fiom has a much more indepth history of different races.

Magic has always been a quiet but hated subject, that's existed for centuries. Within the lore of magic, there have been assumptions that there were magical beings, of otherworldly nature, like goblins, dwarves, centaurs (GreekMythology?) etc.
Guys please don't group Harry Potter and LOTR together. Each just suffers as a result. They both deal with completely different themes so they shouldn't be grouped together anyway. Lord of the Rings deals with the control lust for power can do to a human (This is represented with Golem). JK Rowling has stated many times that the main themes in Harry Potter is death. See, there really isn't any reason for them to be compared at all.

Guys please don't group Harry Potter and LOTR together. Each just suffers as a result. They both deal with completely different themes so they shouldn't be grouped together anyway. Lord of the Rings deals with the control lust for power can do to a human (This is represented with Golem). JK Rowling has stated many times that the main themes in Harry Potter is death. See, there really isn't any reason for them to be compared at all.

@TheDudeMcDude only when compared to children's books. Tolkien was a high end professor in language at oxford. He knew everything there was to know about writing and spent his whole life working on his legendarium (everything that has to do with middle-earth), perfecting it. HP isn't bad as a kids series, but nothing compared to tolkien's works

@TheDudeMcDude Tolkien was actually a soldier in ww1 and took part in ww2. the lord of the rings is somewhat based around fighting the german machine (technological development). you see, a lot of what lotr is, is the fight to stay non indusrialized. just goes to show that again, she's ripping tolkien off, and also, don't you think that's a weakness in HP? it means new generations who read the books will get confused half way through because she was inconsistent with her writing style.
