  • I remember watching that on t.v live, that was a great wreck. Thanks for putting that video up

  • It was my first time ever seeing a Bush/Nascar race in person.. I was in the VIP room you can see from the in car camera when it scans towards the wall at 2:57.I was in the second room on the right. you couldn't see much from inside the room. We went outside, and set in front of the windows.Made it more real then.

  • I find it ironic that the Kingsford car wasn't the one that caught fire!

  • @kk9man think the best Talladega races I've ever seen were the ones that went caution free. I'd say more like 30% of NASCAR fans watch for the wrecks... and another 20% don't mind them. Most of the fans worth paying attention to are the ones who don't watch for the wrecks. The ones who do... well, we don't need em...

  • What a shot of the fire inside Schrader's car!

    O.O

  • look here, and check out that right here and then these guys doing this right here lookie here...........ah more insightful commentary by Kyle Petty

  • OOOOOOOH, Sounds so UGLY

  • I wish the ESPN/ABC coverage was like this, but replace Punch with Allen Bestwick.

  • I like the sound of the cars hitting the wall at 0:21.

  • Ive been looking EVERYWHERE for this! Thanks!

  • I just watched this race start to finish today, and watching Kelly Denton prior to this wreck, he was driving way over his head, and ya Phil Parsons said he wasnt suprised he started this crash.

  • Just Return Ned Jarrett back to the booth so he can call races, we need more voices from the 90's.

  • Didn't Denton get penalized for causing the wreck?

  • why does shrader, newman and waltrip have soooo many cool crashes???

i think they have a combine of 11 flips!!

  • @18sux29rox

add rusty wallace to that list for a few more flips!

  • @18sux29rox Don't forget Dale Earnhardt

  • @ROBLOXdude95 Yeah i think he has 3 or 4!!

  • @18sux29rox Pocono 82, Daytona 97, Talladega 96

  • its funny how it looks like a 1 car crash for a few seconds, then a huge pack of cars wreck in the smoke

  • Kyle Petty is probably the best commentator of the recently retired drivers. He should get a job at ESPN/ABC full time in addition to TNT.

  • even though im not all that fussy about jerry punch, this was one of his best calls that i can remember. i wish he still did pit reporting he was really good at that :D

  • haha benny, "that looked so UGLY!"

  • lol i meant "sounds so UGLY!"

  • This wreck is one of my favorites in Talladega history

  • Is that Dr. Jerry Punch as the head commentator?

  • Yes, it is.

  • I actually wish they would have stuck with the melting on-board. That's an awesome shot to see.

And what's Kelly Denton up to these days, eh? His career really bombed after this crash.

Allow me, by the way, to take the elitist viewpoint that "Fans that watch racing for the crashes are not real fans." Flame me if you want.

  • Well, I got into it because it was a fun looking sport, the crashes are def. a pull in but the finishes(especially this race) are fun. I love any type of racing or competition, it's just fun to watch and talk about.

  • cool! a fuel cam!

  • Yes I would, only if the driver lived.

  • I think we got off the original debate. I don't watch NASCAR races for big or hard wrecks. I do like when they beat and bang off of each other during races, but crashing is another thing. I posted this video because it is amazing how many cars were involved and that everyone was alright (and it wasn't on YouTube yet). If you watch races for wrecks, that's fine, I'm not gonna change your mind and you won't change mine. :)

  • I see what you are saying. I am saying is that at the moment of the crash, there is that fear that someone might be hurt. Especially pre-2001. Later on, we look at these wrecks for the "wow" factor. When I see McDowells wreck at Texas, I think "How did he walk away from that?!" not "Holy crap, that was awesome, I hope that happens this weekend!"

  • but this was in 1999....im lost...you mean?

  • i was watching this for the "historical" purposes. i want to know what was the vibe in NASCAR back in these days and the times and the cars and the events so thats why i watch alot of these old school nascar footages.

  • Because people get hurt in crashes and it takes out some of the competitors that would make the race more exciting. later on we may like to look at the video for the wow factor, but the race becomes more dull after a huge wreck because there are half the competitors as there were before the crash.

  • jerry punch was better back then but now...he just lost it.

  • HOLY CRAP THAT'S A BIG 1

  • its acualy 1998

  • damn thats the bush series for ya

  • ohh myy godd.... all i can say..

  • Thats one of those "What the hell just happened?" Crashes. I mean 2 cars spin and all of a sudden the pack about 4 seconds behind them start wrecking lol

  • now thats a big one

  • this was when busch racing was fun, with very few cup regulars driving those races.

  • At 0:19-0:22. Listen To That. Hard Impact!

  • Yeah you normally don't hear the hit from a camera that's not an onboard camera but you did here since they hit the wall right where the camera on the wall was.

  • I also wonder why too StreatDreamer83 that Kelly Denton isn't in the Series no more...I also wonder why a lot of these drivers are not. Like Brad Loney, Chuck Bown, Barry Bodine?

  • Lyndon Amick, Ed Berrier, Larry Pearson, Shane Hall and Casey Atwood. Tony Raines who drove the #74 Baumgartner Racing is currently in the cup series. Lyndon Amick is currently serving in Afghanistan as a National Guardsman.

  • most of them are gone because guys like carl edwards, kyle busch, and clint bowyer took their money from them basically.

hard to compete when you have all-star drivers in a JV series

  • same here meatmarket...this is the first race I ever saw and I was intrigued by the thrill in this race, even just this crash.

  • Gee... I wonder why Kelly Denton isn't in the Busch Series anymore?

  • RIP benny

  • If you look at the "Big One" from the Cup race in 2005 the wreck behind Schrader and Green looks eirely similar to it, u had Phil Parson in Matt Kenseth's place and all the cars ended up in the same place pretty much.

  • The first Busch race I ever watched!

  • Ya know, it's ironic because it seems like Schrader and Green would have slid off the track right before the pack got there, so in hindsight they didn't need to try to avoid the 32 and 15.

  • the first big one i ever saw and it was awesome. Can't forget about the finish with terry and nemechek also.

  • That wall view is still one of the coolest views today.

  • does anyone have the finish to this race w/ texas terry and front row joe?

  • I'm with him. That MOV was 0.002 in Terry's favor I believe.

  • I remember that well. It took awhile for them to decide who won. Of course, the finishes of races are never on this site unless there's a crash at the finish!

  • I think it's my cap. Crazy crash, huh? It looked like only two cars were going to be involved and then the whole second pack wrecked.

  • i was at that race, terry labonte won barely barely

  • Thaat was a scary crash Lucky nobody was hurt & that was actully Jerry Punch that was calling the crash

  • oh good catch, its fixed now
