There's really no excuse for synthesizers to exist. It's rather like when otherwise very astute blues musicians (Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King) use horns and strings. It's almost always a mistake.

I heard this song from GTA San Andreas MILLIONS of times when they were promoting and advertising the crap out of the game on GameTrailers. The song sounded awesome, but I didn't know the band (back then, we didn't have Shazam in 2004 - 2005). And then, I eventually remembered the song (a couple of days ago, actually) and then I figured out that it was The Who (the band that played many songs that I had no idea who they were and somehow came together magnificently). I found them 2 years ago.
