5000lbs (which is alot more than the m5e60) 621hp = less hp per ton too! And it did 186mph on that "short" straight. So the numbers are against you, m5 e60 is 4000lbs at 507hp. So, why wouldn't it be able to do 200mph? Geez man.

It's doing 211mph according to the speedo and if you correct it by GPS i would bet my ass on it's atleast 200mph honest speed. That's a generous 11mph-giveaway.

And yeah, about that top gear episode, you should have learned that aerodynamics + power is all there is to it for a car to go really fast (accel is another story).

The m5e60 does 203mph de-limited (211 @ speedometer), and the speedo is usually pretty accurate on BMW's (max +8mph @high speeds).

Aerodynamics is the most important factor if you wanna go really fast, just look at the planes, what key factors will you find there?

The cars you're speaking off is probably limited in one way or another, the top speed can't be infinite you know. Not all cars are made to do over 200mph because of various reasons. Do you see?

A limited top speed means many things, it can be because of the gearbox, it can be because of the rear axle it can be because of an electronic limiter, most probably the gearbox which isn't made to go faster. In germany 99% of the cars are limited to 155mph, so there is no reason for them to make a car that is much faster than 200-210mph.

Just like other cars are limited to an engine which can't rev more than 8k rpm or whatever

The E60 will do 200+mph, but not at any point on the Nurburgring. With the full length of the straight, ie not on a tourist day when you have to stop to use the ticket machine I would expect 155 to 165 max at this point of the track.

An m5 e60 should be fully capable of doing 330km/h, but it's not doing it in the video, that is max 200km/h, no more.

But if you can't understand something simple as that and think weighs has a role, then you shouldn't really get into a discussion like this. Low weight has always been prefferd in fast cars due to fast accelerations up to speed and turns.

@Ynnekdude Oh and just so we're clear, there are three things that affect top speed, Aerodynamics as in drag or lack thereof, Horsepower, and Weight; none of which are in the BMW's favor. Now weight can be overcome with horsepower, there's just not enough in the case of the M5, and horsepower can be overcome with a lack of weight, but at 4109lbs this clearly did not happen, but aerodynamics there is no remedy for, just look at the Ariel Atom3 power/ weight ratio of a veyron, top speed of a M3!

The stock M5 is limited to 250kmh which is about 155mph. Disable the Vmax limiter and it can reach 180+ mph easily. But more than 200mph is doubtable.
