  • I read an article in the "T.V. Guide" back then entitled "Are the thrills worth the kills" or something like that. Which explained that a few of the stunt drivers had been killed doing the jumps. So that's why I believe they started using toys. The recent movie shows real cars jumping but the car does not gave a driver. And the car has NOS and is on a track before it goes airborne for a "controlled jump".

  • I grew up in the south in the eighties and I hated this show after coy and vance showed up cause they treated the General like trash and it just wasnt the same without Beau and Luke I still remember seeing Daisy's Roadrunner go off the cliff! They also used 2 different RR's for her car if you watch the old episodes you can clearly see that at one point they were using an extremely rare 71 RR and then the next season it was a 73 or 74 and that is the car that goes off the cliff

  • sera que sia inteiro os dodges?

  • No they didn't they only used 1968 and 1969 dodge chargers

  • This part of the episode was awesome when Bo and Luke jump the 32 cars in the General Lee that was cool Yee-Haw!!! :)

  • @jumpinggenerallee01 stop yelling at us!

  • Sorry, but your wrong... the charger was a CHEAP car when the show was on the air. do you really think fans hated gone in 60 seconds casue they crashed a few 67 mustangs? Or starsky and hutch's remake when they crashed a few torinos, or the Fags and Currious for crashing out those classics? NOPE! If it gets attention and upsets viewers then they will do it more to get more ticket sales! Chargers were CHEAP in the 80's! only in the past 10 years or so have they gotten valuable.

  • @jumpinggenerallee01 --- NOPE, they was going CHEAP! why crash a $500.00 car, when you can crash a $.29 hot wheels! -- remember this show was made back when these cars were being SCRAPPED cause nobody wanted them. -- They handled like crap, & got terrible fuel ecconomy..

chargers/Coronets were SUPER CHEAP on car lots, (why they were used for the show) and earl schwibe would paint one Hemi Orange for $99.00

  • there goes the push bar

  • @jumpinggenerallee01

They started using the model cars at the end of the sixth season, mainly because the show's budget had been cut by that point, and it was near cancellation

  • @PaulIsDeadMissHim I read they started using toy cars because they couldn't find enough 68-69 chargers in the mid-1980's.

  • Oh they wear a helmet for THIS jump but never any the other ones that are normally much bigger. Never thought of that until now.

  • Did the trunk fold from just landing or was this a General with extra weight in the trunk?

  • @Ryoku75

I'm pretty sure there was extra weight. Notice how the front end was higher than the back when it landed.

  • @PaulIsDeadMissHim Yep, extra back weight in order to avoid nose diving. But don't worry , on the next scene the car was perfectly straight, that Charger must have got some tips from Christine !-)

  • @pablof59 aha ya buddy

  • @pablof59 They're both Chryslers so they come from the same family.

  • @Ryoku75 this jump wasnt really that big of a jump

  • @PaulIsDeadMissHim You can actually see the rear quarters fold when he hits the angle of the jump. With the price of 1/4 panels for a 69 Charger now adays, the TV company would have made a fortune just holding on to these cars! aha

  • @PaulIsDeadMissHim No, they used a 66-67 Charger for that stunt. JK. It turned into one after that jump. Because a true fastback with the trunk bending like that.

  • @PaulIsDeadMissHim They also jumped it more than once and were not very consistant. I mean come on. this jump was only in season 3. They could've at least tried to make it look like it only took one try.

  • @Ryoku75 most of the time they put about 750lb of concrete in the trunk otherwise the car would land on its nose

  • @Ryoku75 probably, any time you saw a charger leap like that, it was counterweighted, meaning they used concrete as ballast in the trunk

  • @Ryoku75 Loaded with 'Shine! YEEAHAWW

  • best show ever.. period...

  • DannyDuke0169= you know your stuff good job.

Marshallluck=. coy and vance were only in season 5. this was the better dukes boys. the orginal duke boys. Bo and luke duke.

Paulsdeadmisshim= 310 generals to be exact

  • Everyone keeps talking about how they were destroying 'classic' cars. Keep in mind that these chargers were only around 10 years old when they were filming the show

  • @PaulIsDeadMissHim And who knows what kinda shape some of them were in when they got them, half the time they wreck cars anymore they're painted rust buckets.

  • @Ryoku75 something just hit me about this jump. they said 32 parked cars but they were stacked. so when you think about it, if it were 32 parked cars in a row then the distance would be around 192ft, that would be a huge leap. i watch the episode and counted the cars all together and it was 32 cars so then it was only 16 cars in a row top[ and bottom that would be only around 96ft depending on how wide the cars were. witch im guessing r around 6ft wide. most of the jump were well over 120ft.

  • @PaulIsDeadMissHim they are like the new camaros you see them everywhere!

  • It hit so hard the rear quater panel bent downward. Yep how to destroy a classic car....YANK cockheads..

  • @boofheadrules Yea, but remember this was in the late 70's early 80's when the Dodge Charger was nothing but a 10 year old sedan. That's like calling a '99 Dodge Intrepid a classic car. It's a shame that they continue wrecking them today at Dukesfest each year, but thankfully most all are restored afterwards.

  • @boofheadrules when this show was being flimed in 79 i belived it was a 10 year old car thats like how we trash cars from the 90s and early 2000 in our new movies and shows its no big deal at the time

  • Stunt driver - Al Wyatt Jnr

This jump took two attempts...the first attempt came up short and hit the last pile of cars!!

  • They must have used more than one general lee to make the series as they must have got a bit dented when coy and vance landed heavy.maybe they had a couple of them in case?

  • @marshalllucky - Coy and Vance are the first names that you think of...seriously?!? And they had around 300 or so General Lees

  • @marshalllucky they had roughly 309 Chargers, 1968's & 1969's

  • LOL car's back at 0:27

  • whats funny is that that jumps is only about 70ft they made jumps alot farther than that in the show. the river jump was nearly 190ft. that was nuts

  • does anyone have the full episode??

  • MY FAVORITE EPISODE OF ALL TIME!!!

  • Even being one of the best landings I've seen, the car bend like a banana, grill came off and so on.

  • in the movie they had to get several cars because of all the jumps notice that when they jump the car (not in this clip) that the frame bends then it looks fine a few seconds later... great movie though

  • I'd like to see footage of the car after it's jumped to see how damaged they really get.

  • They actually made this jump twice, since the first one (the GEneral with the camera on its right side) didn't clear all the cars and was badly damage. I've got a picture of the crash of the first one.

  • you said you got a picture of the jump off the first one. Is there a website that has the photo?

  • I love how the push bumper falls off and then it is back on again. Car must be related to Christine...

  • i saw 2005 dukefest on dvd (if youre wondering i have seasons 1,2,3,4,and 7 and i tohught it was badass

  • This jump and whole scene gave me chills when I first saw it. Of course it was a rerun but it still gives me chills to this day. Love it!

  • that makes me sick at 0:28 and when the guard bars fall off

  • and when the rear quater panel crinkles

  • i think general lee is the coolest car in history of tv shows when i went in 2005 at dukesfest with my friends i couldn't belive how many general lees were at dukesfest 2005 rock on general lee

  • Comment removed

  • Filmed at the Saugus Speedway in Santa Clarita--no racing there anymore--only swapmeets.

  • I LOVE the sound of the engine while they're in the air, wooonng, wooong, woong, wooong

  • i think the shock absorbers gave way on this one :S

  • if you look close at :28, you can see the front grill bars immediatly fell off on the landing

  • and its magically re-attached in the next shot :-).

  • @jnoble12 aha ya thanks for pointing that out . they just bolted that push bar on for looks

  • Pause the video at 0:28. He actually twists the bodywork when he lands!!!!!!!

  • they went air born after the front wheels hit the ramp

  • the 32 car jump

    THE GENERAL LEE

  • It looks as if this jump was actually filmed twice. If you notice, in the view from behind, the General's front end seems to be tilting downward, however, when it switches to the front angle, the back end seems to be lower. Maybe the first jump wasn't successful...?

  • The wierdest part about this video is where Bo ended up twisting the back of the cars bodywork. Pause the video at 0:28 and see for yourself. Afterwards, you get a shot from behind the car with no damage at all.

  • it wasnt. ive seen a pic from the first jump and the general is totally mangled on a collapsed pile of cars.

  • That river jump in the opening credits was a helluva lot farther... a world record then. Though as a kid I was truly scarred to death, not for Bo and Luke, but for the freakin car!

  • i Love it!!!!

  • I Love Carnival Of Thrills, and this terrific jump.

  • from the 2-part episode "Carnival of Thrills" ... have to say my heart sank when Bo and Luke got into a fistfight, but loved how Uncle Jesse broke it up.

  • Hey Joe!!! This is the best video I've ever seen in my whole life!!!!
