  • Loud jake= an attention whore with a small penis

  • @CrudeDude Yeah. good thing this was a rental and I have a HUGE penis... About the same size as your lousy attitude!

  • i do LIKE this video but i have to ask, are u the owner of that truck? you are 100% right about the difference between a 379 and 378 but i cannot see that being a 378. the hood looks too aerodynamic even though it is shorter. it just doesnt look like a 378 hood. jakes sound cool though. wish it had a set of straights on there :)

  • @fcdrre1 It was a rental while a unit was at Peterbilt. As for the look, thats just the camera angle

  • Oh my... @ 2:42 that parking brake sounded lovely!

  • i miss so much that life..

  • good vid bro

  • no fuel on overrun. the noise is air only.

  • Actually when the piston is at top dead center the jake opens the exhaust valve. The loud blatting sound is the fuel bieng ignited while being pushed out the exhaust.

  • well the videomanship is great , but the point of the video not so special

  • YOU GOT 2 LOVE THAT SOUND!

  • you dum fuck the exhaust does open to let the compression that's why they make that sound. come on don't say shit if you cont know what the hell your talking about. i went to school for 2 years to learn this stuff. i think i would know how jakes work and how a diesel function.

  • The Jake does not open the exhaust valve.. If that happened there would be no stopping power from the engine. What the jake does is fail to operate the injector so there is no fuel going to the cylinder. The compression that the cylinder makes slows the truck down.

  • actually shaggy's right thats how they work if they didn't the engine would blow

  • yeah ur a noob pullnfool, jake brakes open the exhaust valve at top dead center of the compression stroke, thereby letting all the compressed air from the combustion chamber vent out of the exhaust preventing it from creating a spring action and pushing the piston back down w/ almost equal force it took for it to go up and compress the air. noob.

  • sounds like blu collar radio playing in the background

  • ok ok i know exactly which one your talking about the nose is a bit diff shaped as well NFI has alot of them around the east coast here. i just knew it wasn't a 379 cause i know what they look like over the wheel and the way it slanted down i thought it was a 387 good day

  • whats a jake

  • Jake brake, uses the engine to slow the truck down by cutting off the fuel and closing the intake valve.

  • Actually it opens the exhaust valves so that you have no compression on the cylinders and no spring effect after the piston passes the top-dead-center.

Jakes tech name is "Compression Release Brake" - by Jacobs ;)

    Cheers!

  • ok cut the fuel and air what happens? o that right the engine dies. open the exhaust and let the compression release as the other cylinder compress then less power causing the engine to slow down, key engines brake that why they make that sound. read into it

  • hey dipass a [jae] is a [jakebrake or motor brake]

  • looks like a 387 not a 378. and not all trucks have jake brakes they are acctually a option you have to chose whe buying the truck beleive it or not. your just completely stupid not to get one of some kind. and fuck all civi's im up your up my motto lol

  • Nope, 387 is the bubble Pete. A 378 is almost unheard of, but it exists. It's commonly mistaken for a 379. The only difference between a 78 and 79 is, the 78 is an inch shorter on the tip of the nose.

  • shorter hood and the hood is sloped alittle to and there very common down here in colorado they use them for alot of heavy work the 379 is just for show down here

  • @seansuth the 378 has slightly sloped nose and shorter hood you also have the 378 sb witch is a set back axle and more of a sloped nose they are very popular in the states more in the oil field crue. the 379 is the highway princess 387 is more of a highway truck

  • is´t a volvo FH 12 ???

  • Pate 378

  • straight pipe it

  • Would have loved hearing this without the radio in the background. I've always loved the sound jakes make...blub, blub, blub.

  • Title correction

hear the jerk coming into town.

  • Haha.... that's funny! Did you think of that all by yourself, or did a three year old help you out?

  • Maybe his mother did? idk tho. ALL diesel trucks have a jake of some sort. would that guy rather your truck NOT stop? the jake HELPS out a hell of alot on brakes

  • lol are you watching tv while you drive....thats so awesome

  • Satt radio

  • a little less awesome but still...

  • lol me and will listen to the comedy shit while we cruise too lol

  • i dont wanna sound stupid but does anyone no if there gonna take oldet trucks off the road becuase they cant meet epa standards

  • In theory.. Thats already happening here in the ports of Long Beach..

  • If you are driving a truck and get annoyed by the jake, you shouldnt be driving a truck, LOL

  • i strongly agree my friend the lowder the jake the better

  • I love the sound of Jake brakes. I don't understand why people complain about them... Most places they get used a lot have a similar level of acceleration noise anyway.

And yes, I live right next to where they get used a lot (next to a bridge right before a roundabout on a major highway)

  • What I don't get are the ppl who move into a house on knowen designated truck route, then put up signs on their lawns telling trucks to not use their jakes. I'm sorry my safety comes before your comfort. But I guess it's ok for Mr Important to have his dodge p/u or honda civic with thier pipes making more noise. Thanks for the comment

  • you are absolutely right. people can blast their music in their cars, but jake braking is prohibited? it's very sad when i see a sign that says "engine braking prohibited". that sign should be vandalized! jake brakes have got to be the best sound you'll ever hear in your life.

  • besides a jake on a detroit.hahahhaha.love the sound of jakes.

  • Good driver LOL

  • That is true. CAT will no longer be making On Highway engines. They will still keep their shops open and have CAT Technicians, but no new engines for our Semi's

  • i talked to a cat represenitive and he told me there going to wait till all the emisions standard s go away. they didnt want to pony up the extra money to test the egine with emisions suff on it and it takes alot to test an engine

  • Is CAT really going to stop making on highway engines soon?

  • I've only heard that romor once, but it will be a saaad day if it's true. any one else able to comment??

  • As a matter of fact, I went to google and typed in when the CAT engines will stop being produced and I found out that they will stop being produced at the end of the year 2009. R.I.P. CAT On Highway engines.:(

  • why is it that CAT is going to stop making engines?

  • cat can't meet epa standards (emissions)

  • fuck emissions...

  • no its cuz they ar3e already restricted enough.if they went any further they would cut in to MPGs.the are already the leader for MPGs.they could meet ever state emission except for cali.

  • there not there only making engines for navistar (ivecos and internationals)

  • the have only stopped making on-road engines.they have stopped "making" them because they did not want to meet the 2015 standards in cali.they met ever other states standards except cali.

  • 5% of their business is for on highway motors. It's not worth the expense to spend the money for emmissions. CAT will only make stuff for off highway equipment. No complaints here.

  • Actually, I found out that they are going to stop production of On Highway engines at the end of 2009. R.I.P CAT On Highway engines.:(

  • its very very sad

  • yep

they will seel engines until late 2009

  • you shuld make a vidio on when to use the jake break not to.

  • i was just wondering i might be wrong but is that lickman road you just turned onto

  • it sure was

  • Ah The Jake, One Of The Things I Miss Most About Driving.

  • I can see other truck flash light to you (Wave Or Hey mates)

  • do you drive that 379 often?

  • nope. I wish I did tho!! it's a rental/lease from Peterbilt (and its a 378)

  • 378, 379 ... pshaw, whats the dif?? lol

  • 'bout 3 inches... no comment

  • good video

  • nice vid and some real good drivin there that first big corner looks so tight but u took it nice.take care

  • the company assigned to you a new truck causee the last one was yellow??

  • no, I drive a company truck now, so I'm in a diffrent unit almost everyday

  • nice 5 stars

  • How many hours a day do you work?

  • anywhere from 10 to 12 a day
