  • Great video brother! I'm a retired OIF Infantryman and have been considering a Piston Operated AR for a while now. Your video was very helpful and it has turned me on to the LWR. Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you very much for this vid. Very educational. I learned a lot today.

  • what's your preference, DI or Piston?

  • This is the best 30 minute review.

  • Thanks for the video great information. It looks like the sigs barrel is tapered? Could you check and let me know? I know my Remington 700 barrel is tapered for accuracy according to them. It would be interesting to see if sig is doing something similar.

  • Who cares if a Sig 556 is not an Armalite Rifle patterned rifle. Sig makes AR style rifles anyway.

  • How does the stag model 8 compare to these rifles?

  • I really appreciate the longer more in depth videos. You guys crank out a lot of cool and informative vids, and the more info the better.... Very educational and many thanks for doing so!!!

  • Cool review for those interested in purchasing these weapons. This video helped me choose my Ruger SR556. It was a tough choice between the Sig and the Ruger :)

  • damn, he's really good at putting those guns back together.

  • Will you do an updated video comparison with the SIG SAUER 516 in place of the 556 since it's the more comparative and competitive gas piston AR15?

  • do you have any experience with the sig 516?

  • @HungarianLegionnaire He never said it was an AR, its just 5.56 gas piston rifle...

  • @weerd2normal Why don't you take a look at the Description, it says "We take a look at Three Gas Piston 5.56x45 AR15 style Rifles", not to mention the FIRST sentence of the video is:

"We are going to talk a look at some of the gas piston, uh (AR15's) out there uh what we got here is a Ruger the Sr556 we've got a SWAT model of the Sig 556, and then over on the left we have an LWRC. So it's three different models of pretty popular gas piston types of (AR's)".

    Clear enough for you ?

  • how often do you clean the LWRC piston parts? Is it as often as the bolt carrier?

  • @rickylain

    hardly ever

  • @HungarianLegionnaire Sig 556 is a US made rifle with an AR15 compatible magazine well and is perfectly fine to use an an AR type. Unless it says Armalite it's not an AR it's a clone anyway (Armalite rifle 15).

  • @HungarianLegionnaire

people like yourself make the internet lame.. if you don't care to see these three side by side DON'T WATCH

If you only want to get hung up on some glitch, go away

  • damn

  • Don't LWRC guns now ship with one piece bolt carriers?

  • @Nater245689

    yes

  • I own a 556 and it's a well designed and very smooth shooting rifle. My only objection to it is its weight. 11# unloaded!

  • shit you reassembled those fast! lol

  • The Sig isn't a AR rifle at all. It may use the same magazines but that's about it. Good overall look at the rifles. There are so many AR type piston rifles out these days. That it would be hard to do them all without help & a bigger table.

  • you should check out a Robinson Arms XCR. It's similar to the Sig you have here, but I've handled both and it seems to me like the XCR is of higher quality.

  • The Ruger looks sleek and the bolt carrier design is nice. The Sig looks like a refined Ak that looks like will out last all the competitors shown today, very beefy.

  • Get a stag arms m8, great reviews, mil-spec, Midwest sights, and only $1100. ++lifetime warrenty

  • i have a ruger sr556 and i love it its great>im thinking about buying a sig 556 dmr

  • Thank you for taking the time to create and post this. It was very valuable. I have to say, I'm impressed with the Sig. It just jumped to the top of the list of what I would get as a gas piston rifle.

  • Thank you for the vid helps having them laid out side by side

So if you had to pick one witch do you pick and why

  • whats better ruger 556 or sig 556 i know the ruger is heavier than sig ar style

my gun store wants $100 more for the ruger and the sig comes with a junky red dot

    please help me

  • I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but I agree with other posters, the Sig isn't an AR in any way shape or form.

    AR stands for Armalite Rifle.

  • unless your shooting a SBR (for you who dont know the lingo...short barrel rifle)

or full auto,,,there is absolutely no reason to go with a gas piston set up.,,,your just paying extra to fix a problem the AR rifle does not have!!

the only one that is a bit different, and more based on the AK if the sig,and that is the best of the three.

  • The guy's voice is too soft or they need a better camera with improved mic system. I just hear mumbling.

  • I didn't know anything about guns...but I am learning a great deals from your video. thank you and please keep on posting! - A Huge Support from California!

  • The Ruger looks amazing.

  • @Laudrengen it looks amazing until you fire some shots through it and notice the carrier tilt they haven't fixed. lwrc fixed the problem, but the ruger still suffers from carrier tilt. the sig 556 was designed from the start as a piston, so it's not a problem. any piston ar is essentially a retrofit by nature and answers problems that don't really exist.

  • Thanks for posting this. I was always wondering what the differences between the gas and piston systems were.

  • In terms of looks, the M6A2 is the nicest ;)

  • Since when Sig Sauer 556 became an AR-15 rifle?....

  • good info, a little more volume & voice inflection would be great. hard to stay awake for this.

  • Ruger for the win!

  • why don't you have 16 of them is the question that should be asked

  • great vid love this one good job thx

  • Very good. Thanks for taking the time to share.

  • From the beginning of the vid to about 2:55, you're kind of mumbling or you are too far from the microphone. It was a little hard to hear you. Then at 2:56 or so, the mic volume was fine. Thanks.

  • I don't consider the Sig to be an "AR type." The bolt, action and gas system are not like the AR and were developed independently by the Swiss.

It fires the same 5.56 round but outside of bullets none of the parts are not even close to interchangeable (including the butt stock). Well, the Sig can accept an AR type stock but the AR can't use the folding Swiss style stock.

  • @Docbrown777 Your assessment is correct, the Sig is based on the AK.

  • @Docbrown777 sig actually uses a gas system almost identical to the AK47. so really its almost nothign like the AR15s

  • @Docbrown777 Doesn't AR stand for assault rifle? By my standards that Sig 556 is an assault rifle.

  • @NinjaChicken831

    AR stands for armalite,

A assault rifle is a rifle that fires a intermediate round and is selective fire, the Sig556 only meets one of those and therefore is not a assault rifle.

  • i have no personal experience just what i heard an red - but that is a lot - are those people all wrong then?

  • ok well

  • semi

    no

    no reason

  • @ealnav WTF? That is analogous to asking "WHY DO YOU NEED SO MUCH MONEY?"

    I can't follow the logic?

  • @fehlrock i was just curious why somebody needs 16 pieces of the essentially same design - AR15 is not really a collector's piece and even with the different configurations 16 seems to be a lot

if i had the money for 16 M16s i would buy 3 of them and 13 other types

there is nothing wrong with 16 M16s - just curiosity you know

sometimes there is no logic to follow - take it easy

  • @ealnav look at it this way, if assualt rifles are banned every assualt rifle will be worth at least twice its value pre ban. So if that happens he could make a lot of money off of his 16 rifles, even though i doubt he would sell them all.

  • Great vid thanks

  • the M-16/AR-15 platform got a big amount of critique being unreliable prone to jamming etc. because of the direct impingement system

the piston system is considered to be much rugged - see AK

did somebody run a real reliability test to compare the new piston rifles to the conventional ones? ( like firing a few thousand rounds )

is the gas system really the weakest point of the M-16/AR-15 rifle?

  • Nice guns. Great review. I have LMT MRP and LWRC ga-piston guns. Both are great guns.

  • Which do you like better?

  • I've used both for on-duty use. If I had to choose between them, I would lean towards the LMT MRP. Both are dead-on shooters, as far as AR-platforms go. However, I like how the barrel can be changed out on the LMT between the 16 to 12 inch barrels. In addition, if I could afford to do it, I could also swith to the 6.8 SPC by just getting the 6.8 SPC barrel and bolt. That's not possible for the LWRC.

  • Great video, Thank you.

  • I think I'm going to buy the LWRC M6A2.

I've handled the Ruger SR556 at my local gun store (MegaSports). It is nice, and does look sleeker, but it is a bit front heavy, just to let you guys know ;)

  • Have you held an LWRC ?

All piston AR15s are front heavy

  • I have, I believe the Ruger is a bit heavier. It has a longer rail and I think it is thicker too.

  • I have a LWRC M6A2, Its a great gun. I love it.

  • @NickyDaGreat i just bought the new ruger sr 556(c) and its lighter than than the original. its has a fluted barrel and the barrel is slightly shorter. it took about a pound and a half off the front weight of the original. i like this one much better and is alot quicker to get on target as well as multiple targets. you try to find one and check it out.

  • Excellent vid presentation and instruction here.

  • thanks

  • reminds me of the move good bad and ugly when he builds his gun at the store. lol.

  • now that would be a good video....

  • that ruger sure is pretty, nice sleaker look

  • good job... I LIKE THE SIG, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE ACR FROM BUSHMASTER

  • Can't beat the reliability of a Sig. I have over 2000 rounds thru my 556 SWAT with no failures.

  • LWRC all the way man. As soon as I have the money, thats what I'm getting.

  • agreed

    m6a2!

  • Exactly the one I will get when the money comes in!

  • same here, expensive as a mofo, but it'll be worth it

  • good vid man. I perfer DI though..

  • your videos are getting better and better, keep it up

  • Fantastic vid. As someone who's been chewing on the idea of a gas piston AR this was extremely informative in a way the myriad of other videos on the subject have not been.

As interesting as the Sig is I like that you can slap on any other upper you want for both the Ruger and the LWRC.

  • glad it was helpful then, thats what the intent was when we made it

  • thats what I meant too

  • 3 + off = 4 ??

  • SIG

  • The part you are talking about at 16:48 I would call a gas regulator thats what we call them on the AUG styer that part looks very similar.

  • thanks, thats prolly what Ruger calls it too

  • the one in the sig dosent look like an AR based rifle

  • its an ak and ar combined so they say

  • correct, uses the AR magazine and ammo, but little else is AR like

  • Thanks for the review.

  • Well I just feel that these gas piston ARs are just over rated. (let the flak commense)

  • LWRC is by far the superior set up. Self regulating and self cleaning. LWRC will handle suppressor perfectly with no malfunctions. Ruger weighs a ton. Sig is close second.

  • Muzzle devices... lol Sorry just thought that was kinda funny, good video, Nutnfancy's vid was similar

  • ?? what do you call them?

  • 'flash hider'

  • oh, well that would be what I would call one meant to to only that, however in general I use the term 'muzzle device' to include breaks, flash suppressors and suppressor attachments

  • use whatever words you want dude, I was just messing with you. Keep up the good vids. :)

  • Just a note - the LWRC does disassemble easily with no tools required. You can clean the system easily - but it also features a self-scraping piston cup which keeps fouling from interfering with performance. They recommend cleaning every 2500 rounds or so. Been a breeze on both my M6A2, and M6.

  • i have to meet you!i LOVE guns

  • oh and i like the fast forward rebuild at the end! :-)

  • what a nice comparison!*****

i love the SIG such a nice and well made rifle!

  • are the SIG and LWRC class III weapons?

  • No, class III would be fully automatic. You can see the sear disconnect when he shows shots of the lowers (at least on one of them, I caught a peek of it). Now, there may be class III versions available, but most civilians aren't able to obtain these (well, not legally).

  • I see a full auto selection indicator at 00:46 or is that just a second position safety?

  • there is a full auto selector engraving, but thats just what LWRC does on their receivers, the selector doesn't move to that position

    These are all semi-auto

  • I believe the Swiss issue SIG rifles and the DEA has LWRC M6A2 weapons fielded. So it's safe to say they make fully-automatic versions. For that matter, some of the LWRC weapons still have all three fire position markings on the lower receiver . Semi-Safe-Full. I'm not sure if they all still do, but I've seen plenty in the past that had all three.

  • @jubeigh13: the Swiss military issue (called SIG Stwg90) have settings for single, 3-round and full automated fire. Once you leave active service in the militia you can chose to keep your rifle, but it gets sent back to the factory and the fully automated mode gets removed. There are no (legally) privately owned fully automated weapons in Switzerland, and you are not allowed to use full automated fire in the military, except in emergencies.

  • at 12:10, you refer to the ruger 556 when you pick up the sig 556 upper.

  • howzaboot da pof (patriot ordinance factory)? they say their guns don't require lube. know anything about that?

  • again, only seen them, never had a chance to shoot one... yet

  • so hard to choose. the sig's system completly comes apart for easy cleaning. the ruger's system is all locked up and cant come apart but is ajustable so you can make a semi auto bolt. and the lwrc's system doesnt appear to come out but is accessable for cleaning and is not 100% propriatary. so which do you think would be the best in your opion?

  • I am almost positive the LWRC comes apart, only this wasn't sure how to do it .. but I wanted to get the video made while I could

  • I have a CMMG piston system on my m4which So far it seems to be reliable. What's you take on retro-fit kits like CMMG or Adams arms or others?

  • Only barely looked at them, never go hands on one or shot one.... yet

  • that was a vary informative vid...im not sure what type of desine i perfre more.....im hoping that the ruger forearm grip..will beable to be taken down....but u say no so.....not sure if i like that...other than that more or less leaning towords the ruger...i love the fact u broke the firearms down...thanks for doing that....great vid loved it...educate and liberate

  • I have the lwrc psd upper, m6a3 upper 16in, and the repr with one lwrc lower. Love em. Only stuff i use. sold my colt m4 and my larue arms upper and lower.

  • I like your gas piston video a lot better the Nutnfancy's.

The probably with DI is, it shits where it eats.

Whats the best of the 3 systems?

  • Thanks,

Of course these videos take hours / days to make.. we filmed this one a few days before we posted it and it looks like TNP filmed his over a period of time as well..

It was just coincidence that we both posted vids featuring similar guns within a few hours of each other..

We do our vids quite differently than TNP, we are not trying to compete with him, and I doubt he even knows about us

  • I guess I like the LWRC best of these, but I now like the SIG more than I did before3 making this video

  • very informating vid, even for me, english is not my language

  • LWRC!

  • can you buy the sig556 legally as a household weapon or can you not buy it???

  • Probably not it Canada, you can however buy the California version I believe. I'm not up to date on my Canadian gun laws but I think it's a 10 round limit on all semi-autos. Hope that helps.

  • in the US it is legal in most places

  • what about michigan?? the sig looks more reliable to me, coz it has a ak type funcion. is it?

  • Yes you may. Around $1,800 USD
