@ajay999999 the call out is "Minimums" and refers to the altitude at which one should be able to see the runway. If however the pilot can not see the runway at this altitude you are supposed to do a go around. The minima vary by aircraft category, determined by the aircraft's approach speed. If you want to obtain more detailed knowledge I suggest you google following terms:
Do yourself a favor, follow my suggestion of reading up on the issue, bit more complex! In short: before landing the pilots have to make sure they are within legal boundaries by staying updated on local weather/visibility. Every airport / aircraft and weather condition has a defined category. In case the weather changes upon arrival and the aircraft falls out of limits, they will have to go around and possibly divert to a different airport.
@ajay999999 Furthermore, the "minimums" call is not only for visibility related issues, but in general the last point at which a go around can be safely performed. Say for instance if the approach is unstabilized or for any other reason why the pilot might opt to abort the landing. Really, read up on it... it's not that hard to do a search.
don't they use the ils approach then at like 400 feet shut off the autopilot and land manually or is that just for very windy and low visiblities?????
@MyPilot747 It's all rubber. When those planes touch down, they first leave a good portion of rubber from the wheels on the runway, until the wheels roataion speed matches the aircrafts speed. The smoke you see from an aircraft that just touches down is an indicator that rubebr was melted and the runway got a little darker.
@HerpaReviews At the "Minimums" callout the aircraft has reached the decision altitude. At this altitude the pilot should be able to visually see the runway through the window and be able to land the aircraft even without help of automatic landing systems. Hence if the plane or Pilot Not Flying calls out "Minimums" and the runway is not visible to the Pilot Flying they have to abort landing and climb again (Go Around) and try another time
@wowfreak800 No it isn't. At the beginning of the video, you can even hear ATC advise another aircraf of the "747" they are following approaching the river!
@Suredt- This might seem like a stupid question, but when a pilot lands on 25 R does he cross 25L to get to the terminal while other aircraft wait for takeoff/landing , or does he have to taxi all the way to the end and go around it?
When I am at LAX I love sitting at the Alaska Lounge seeing your beautiful 747 land taxi to the gate, get ready for the flight back to AMS and take off by Terminal 3. Next time you see those windows on the left second story wave to me and I will wave back!!!
@SuredT I just wanted to check River and Lima are waypoints on your 5star gps arrival chart was ATC telling you the altitude to be at when your reach there. Isnt the information already known to you?
@SureT I just wanted to check River and Lima are waypoints on your 5star gps arrival chart was ATC telling you the altitude to be at when your reach there. Isnt the information already known to you?
I am well aware that there is a lot more to it....and the speeds are higher, ... but the view from the cockpit looks much the same as in a 172. The landing spot remains fixed in the field of view.
Whenever I go on vacation, I wish I could have the pilot's view. ... Thanks
They should have that on the seat backs......or do they now, it's been a while?
Hi SuredT, I'm really interested in working for KLM, of course after all degrees, but: 1. I'm not Dutch though, am I able to fly for them? 2. Do I need ATPL or just CPL (you wrote, that you started your career with CPL, or am I wrong?) Please answer :) By the way; you're a great captain, do you fly all the time or not? I mean - you've flown 747's for 20 years, is your career getting close to the end?
Hey man, I love your videos. I'm just wondering... I have my CPL and im training for my Multi right now, I really want to work for Air Canada Jazz ( First Officer) but do they need a ATPL OR IATRA and a collage deploma, or just high school deploma? And to work for KLM do you need a ATPL with University level, Please reply back, Thanks
How do you like piloting for KLM? I'm only a teen now but I might want to become a pilot when I am an adult. By the way, do you fly a specific plane, if so I'd like to know the tail number so I could keep an eye out for it. If it's confidential or you don't want me to know for some reason I'd understand. @PGstreet Yes what do you think when doing this for hours and hours and hours, day after day after day, year after year after year. You'll automatically start to sound like a robot! That's why I never want to be and ATC, but a pilot instead :P Not for KLM though, although I'm Dutch and I would love to work for them. But it's simply too strict here in Holland. @Myfochop. No, just monitoring the progress of the flight which means: times and fuel remaining over waypoints according flightplan? Weather still according forecast? If not, consider all options for adjustment of flightplan and course of action.
That was just great! Thanks for the ride! I got to ride up front from Vic Falls to Harare once and from Caracas to Aruba (that was cool), but I never into LA --- what a gas - thanks for posting!
I flew with "this" flight a couple of weeks ago (klm601 to la and 602 back) service was good, airport kinda sucked lol (the departure area didnt have many stores, food courts etc) LA was freaking amazing but damn it was nice to fly the 747, my first time ever :) Thanks KLM!
Fantastic video! Thank you for sharing. I do have a question. I hear the term "Lima" mentioned a lot when I monitor ATC LAX tower, and I hear it mentioned several times in this video. When I listen to ATC, I'll hear something like "LAX tower, American 161 heavy is with you at Lima for runway 25-right." Is Lima a check-in point of some kind?
@enigma800 Limma is the point at which the pilot will intercept the glide slope on the 25L approach, at 1900 ft. You can see the charts at aeronav.faa.gov. Search for Free Digital Products. Then go to Terminal Procedures page and search for KLAX charts (ICAO code, not FAA).
Hello,i want to ask you when you are landing for example at TNCM and you are landing manually wil the FD show you when to or how to get the plane on the ground???
@DHMaNiAc770 The FD will only show you how to do the autopilot's work manually. The autopilot needs an ILS (Instrument Landing System) to find its way to the runway, which determines the vertical and horizontal paths to be followed. TNCM does not have an ILS. So you can use the VOR to get close and roughly aligned to the runway, but the landing is always manual. All the FD can do is give you heading and VS, which doesn't mean you'll land on the runway.
@manbal100 When I flew in the jumpseat on SAS from Copenhagen to Oslo the captain had been flying for the Swedish Air Force for 12 years in JAS 39 Gripen. The training is free but you have to attend Swedish Air Force for at least 10 years. if u cut before the 10 years have expired you need to pay for the training. so i would definately recommend trying the Air Force if you can meet the requirements :p
Excellent video! And thank you so much for adding in the radio traffic. And mounting the camera up front just makes it that much better. I wish there a bunch of videos like this on You Tube because I really enjoy them. Thank you so much for posting it.
@guidodeukuzeta1234. In a 747 you start the flare at about 40 ft (the book says 30 ft but in my experience that's a bit too low) by increasing your pitch attitude with only 2 degrees, then close the thrustlevers to idle while keeping the pitch attitude the same. A smooth landing should follow.
awesome video! Dutch pilots :)!

Hello,i want to ask you when you are landing for example at TNCM and you are landing manually wil the FD show you when to or how to get the plane on the ground???
DHMaNiAc770 11 months ago

Zou je me kunnen vertellen wat de engine start sequences is die KLM gebruikt?
MrKLMFokker 11 months ago
@MrKLMFokker. At KLM we start two engines at the same time. First 3&4 and then 1&2. Only in abnormal circumstances we start engines one at the time.

@SuredT one question:
whats your flare technique. by the way i saw your bamgkok vid but i couldnt detect what u did
plzz answer thanks xd
guidodeukuzeta1234 10 months ago
@guidodeukuzeta1234. In a 747 you start the flare at about 40 ft (the book says 30 ft but in my experience that's a bit too low) by increasing your pitch attitude with only 2 degrees, then close the thrustlevers to idle while keeping the pitch attitude the same. A smooth landing should follow.
