I don't think there is such a thing as "best version" when it comes to music. Music is subjective. Personally speaking, Alan Jackson's version just happens to be my favorite.
This version had a great bass singer on the back vocals. I've always wondered who did it. It doesn't sound like JD Sumner, but whoever it is was getting down into Southern gospel quartet bass range.
May I say? This Lady opened 19 shows of mine Or co opened? Who's to say. She is one hell of a person and entertainer. Too damn bad , Her Management team was, let' s say, less than above board. This lady didn' t get the chance she deserved. Charly, I gave the business up also. Self soul is more important.
The ones who built country music such as Charlie needs respect. Others try to redo the classics but why bother when the song is perfect. Charly you are missed in music.
Charlie's was the first version of this i ever heard, when it hit the airwaves i liked it the first time i heard it. And i still like it:):):):) Thanx for posting this.
That's really no surprise. A lot of people are like that. They have such boring spouses that they plan to divorce. Nicole Brown Simpson did that to her NFL legend husband O.J. LOL
Charly McCain puts most of today's female country singers to shame with her beautiful voice. That's why she is still my all time favorite female singer.
Thank you for posting this,,, I can't seem to find this song cover by Charly McClain on Napster!!!! Does anyone know which, if any online music service has this song???
have a wife that watches everything hehehehehe no cheatin here i cant leave her site i woudlnt anyway its great here ha I need a box o matches after 26 years heheheheh qoute by Nancy Sinatra
I always liked this version and disliked the remake by Jackson who seemed to sleepwalk through the song probably they did the remake because they were devoid of thoughts
i use to sing this around the house as a kid i never would get the words right until i got older but i would think i was her. i loved her singing so much still do. ty for posting this.

Charly's version is a lot better than Alan Jackson's version.

Alan Jackson's recording runs about two minutes longer than Charly's. She's a flash-in-the-pan compared ass-kicking Alan. Alan is King of Country.

I have got to agree with you all, this is the only true version of this song!! Charly had the
greatest voice and I can't stand to hear Alan
Jackson ruin the song. Charly is true classic
country all the way and I would love to hear
"paradise tonight" duet she sang with Mickey
Gilley

I can understand why you like Charly's recording better than Alan Jackson's. You'd sing Charly's exact words like guys would sing Alan's.
