There are no better sports than muay thai, mma, kickboxing etc for a person according to fysical strenght, speed, balans, understanding your own body, culture, respect, believe, show, technique, defense, cardio, intelligence, spirituality, self secured, and competition.
I am sooo glad right now. Just lik 2 seconds before he tells to keep your chin in, I was already practising behind my screen. Sorry for my happy comment, but I just started Muay Thai and I am old (32) Maybe this means I have a clear understanding of my body according to muay thai. For real I have done many sports. fitness, running, cyclingx2, soccer, and didn't do anything for about one year. Last week I puked my whole meal because the first muay thai lesson. MT is so intense. I start on 1/1/12!
@valgorlin I think he means 45 degrees with the horizontal plane parralel to the floor on his forearm , you meant is the angle of the forearm and his upper arm .So maybe hes not that bad at math ^^
Hey I've only gone to a few muay Thai classes at my gym and I've realised that we mainly practice striking and not blocking then counter striking... Do they not really practice blocking these days or does that come a little later?
You can see the influence between other systems from south east asia when you watch these videos. Indonesian, Thai and Filipino martial arts sure have a lot of similar techniques and principals. Great stuff.
My question for this technique(even though I understand this would be VERY effective in a street setting. If you use this technique in a "sport" context, what would be a defense for a high knee or jumping knee here? It seems like you are doubling the force by buring your head like that.
I understand that if you get there fast enough he's off balance and you would simply push him away(which would look pretty comical, lol) but What about if he gets there first? Just Curious?
@stwjester A high knee or jumping knee is probably coming straight forward, as direction goes. In instance, it's better not to try to block, but to pivot out of the way. I think I did a video on how to deflect knees, check out my channel.
@JesterSkywalker If you keep your hands up like that, yeah your ribs are exposed. If you cover your ribs, your jaw is open. The best solution: always be moving, don't pose, stay relaxed and allow your cover to react to what's coming.
hey donnie, since u practice an older style of muay thai, what type is it? Do u practice muay paak lang, muay nawarat, muay uttaradit? once again denx for d great vids, keep dem coming
@whoareyou3636 actually, it's a blend of muay chao cherk (battlefield muay thai), lerdrit, and boar bando. I also train some muay boran, but since we use what is most efficient for modern combat we tend to avoid the more traditional forms you'd see in pure muay chaiya, for example.
@TheKruRosu they don't use the old techniqus because they would be ineffective in the ring, however, this type of muay thai is very street effective, it all just depends on what you're learning the art(s) for.
this really works i swear i do it to my sparring partners alot now ever since my muay thai coach does it to me i took i learn i seen yea i mean i dont like closing my arms to my face like your in the corner getting hit not like this i could see everything mostly..
Hey brother good to see ya workin it. We both went to the same school, right. It is a triangle guard (see biomechanic principles) and in bare knuckle parlance it is a leverage block. But the block slides underneath the attacking arm. And as we both know the strongest part of the triangle is the point, so in order to deafet the block you need to attack centerline from 5 to 90 degree's. Otherwise, force on force.

Its awesome because I train Muay Thai as well, but I like to refer to Donnie B's Muay Boran/Chaiya Style. and I would say if you train "Sport" Muay Thai, then you should DEFINITELY watch Donnies videos. No joke Donnie, My sparring partners and everyone can see a difference in my kicks. Your kicks and elbows are among the VERY few things they allow me to incorporate as far as Boran /Chaiya into my style. But Kob Kun Krab (Thank you) and make more vids please! I love picking apart everything!!
First off, very nice technique Donnie. Secondly, to those questioning the high guard. Keep in mind that Muay Thai is different from most arts in that we train to absorb impact more. This real world sense makes for very unmistakable results. Body "hardening" or conditioning techniques are just as important to the art as the moves are. It also gives the practitioner confidence in combat since he's used to getting a beating in training. So yes it's dangerous, but if conditioned it's not AS painful.
Well he is a bit open at his torso, but the idea of holding the forearms more offensive is pretty good one. Being offensive in your self protection is also mostly a good way.
Hi Donnie B,I'm Ake, I'm thai and I 'm glad to see how you train your student. You are really good in Muay Thai basic such as Guard, Stance and striking. Now I'm study Muay Thai Chaiya ( One of Four Ancient Muay Thai ) If you wanna talk with me and exchange any experience , I'll be very happy.Thank ขอบคุณครับ

holding ur guard like that while fighing someone who actually can box, like a kikcboxer u will take serious punches do your cookie jar

hmm, but if we do this defense, we would be leaving our ribs open to kicks. is there a way to solve this?

This is no good! Fighting is against the law! You must use diplomatic channels for resolving your issues instead of this systematic violence !!!
