Take a look around, and look at the Patriot act. Look at the illegal detaining of foreign citizens in the U.S., Look at the pre-emptive wars that have been launched by the U.S. government. Ask yourself why 400 people own more than 50% of the rest America.
I'm not trying to put on the tinfoil hat here, but there's some pretty fucked up shit going on in the U.S., and in case you haven't noticed, politicians are hacking away at your rights more and more each day. Will they stop at abortion? Or will they push to abolish minimum wages? Will they cut socialized schooling? Will they redraft the constitution? The government HAS the power to do all of these things, if it wants.
Then again, I imagine there would be quite a bit of uproar concerning the constitution being changed if it was done now, but wait a few more generations, once the national average I.Q. plummets, and religion is taught in schools again, and you'll have the placid masses watch idly by as the articles of the freedoms they didn't even know they had turn to dust.
