Some of you guys are wrong,Jean is a Omega level mutant,the Phoenix on the hand is life & death.prime universal force of life.It has the power to create or destroy.In order for someone to use the Phoenix and not burn out.That person have to strong enough to bear it power.also In the comics books the Phoenix is Jean secondary mutation as for the Legion battle that going on,if ProfX got thru his Mind,I'm pretty sure Jean can too,and if Jean have the Phoenix when battling him.He's as good as dead

Since the X-men can't get in, or do much of anything at the scene, they decided to just wait it out and deal with the situation when it surfaces. It's pretty much all they can do. It would make sense to assume that they are preparing to deal with him this entire time, but since they're not giving us any footage of that, we can't be sure.
