  • Sassafras, my adopted black baby girl (black lab/german shepherd), suffered from black dog syndrome. She and her litter mates where to be euthanized after Hurricane Charley in 2004 @ 8 wks they had already been at the shelter for 3 wks. She not only survived the syndrome but we convinced 4 other families to adopt her brothers and sister too. Just a side note - not only spay and neuter but be sure to get vaccinations - black dogs are more susceptible to Parvo. She is my best friend.

  • As a teen, my family adopted 2 black dogs; Sam and Pepper. They both lived long happy lives. My doxie, Max is black, my other dog Razzle is black and white. Both are happy and healthy.

    R.I.P. Tacky......

  • ALL 3 OF MY DOGS FOUND ME. AND THEY ARE ALL BLACK.

  • Truly black IS beautiful. Thanks for this video. Our "Black Pearl" is Dolly and a rescue dog.

  • I have a black lab/ pitbull mix named Friday she is the SWEETEST dog in the world my dad calls her little black dog. lol. black dog syndrome is so silly it doesnt make any sense its kind of like doggie racism lol. sure in the dark I trip over my black dog but its hilarious lol my dog is sweet and thats all that matters =3

  • When I rescued/adopted my first black dog, I had to get another... and another. I have saved 3black dogs (all females)... Shadow, Shelby & Shawna. I saved Shawna the day before she was to be euthanized.

Then I rescued/adopted my first white dog... and then another. I have saved 2 white dogs (both males)... Macon & Micah. I drove 11 hours to get Micah and saved him 12 hours before he was to be euthanized.

  • I have a black lab, we rescued him from a shelter where he had been for months. He was so sad and heartbroken he wouldn't even look you in the eye. Now he is happy and healthy and loves going for walks. He is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever had. I don't understand why people wouldn't love to adopt black dogs. Personally I love black animals, especially black dogs and black cats.

  • I love black puppies...we always had Labs...I love any puppy :)

  • Black Dog Appreciation Day ! September 9th....Mark this date on your calendars.

Help these beautiful babies...everyday you can..Save their Lives !!

  • Just because poeple have problems withe black ppl dont mean it should go for dogs to........Good video!!

  • We always had black dogs growing up, and I now have a rescued black dog and a black cat (who I think have a similar fate), and they are the BEST!!

  • Thumbs up if this video gets you teary eyed after watching

  • whenever I go in a Shelter for dogs I Try to adopt every black dog there like my great dain dozer she is a sweetheart dog that I love to death Black Dog Syndrome is unfair ):

  • People REALLY need to learn the importance of picking a dog (or cat) baised on personality. I know a girl that got two puppies because they were merles then when they turned out to be high drive dogs bad for her couch potatoe life style she got rid of them. I'm the proud owner of a Rottweiler and I have to say...there is nothing more beautiful than a shinny black coat in the sun!

  • My black lab was the best dog in the world.

  • I'm happy to be part of the 'black dog rescuers' we adopted a doberman mix, and he is wonderful!

This video tears at my heart... how can people be so cruel? How can people so easily abandon a member of their family? Dogs aren't just pieces of property, they are living, breathing, feeling beings... who deserve love and acceptance. Would people just as easily give up their children for mis-behaving? If many would just take the responsible route to having their pets spayed or neutered...

  • i adopted a black flat coated retriver

  • I currently foster a Big Beautiful Black Lab with a rescue group in my home state. This poor guy has been looking for his forever home since August of 2010. He's absolutely the sweetest guy ever, and 100 pounds of pure love. It still confuses me as to why so many black dogs are PTS in shelters, discarded in the countryside, or simply SHOT by farmers and other homeowners because they "look mean"... Nothing could be farther from the truth!

  • Worked at a shelter for a while, and it's dead true. Big black adult dogs are close to impossible to adopt out. That's why I took one home. :)

  • Superficial or not, it is what it is. Shelters need to post videos for Black Dogs so people can see the personality. Why not have a Black Dog Day once a month?

  • Black dogs are best dogs for protection!

  • I had little black dog. She was named JJ.She was mix beagle with lab. She went threw both pregnancy of my girls sitting on my stomach. She loved the girls so much. She was so smart. She has been gone for some time. But I still miss her. RIP JJ.

  • I heard this when I adopted my puppy, Skyy. She looks exactly like the puppy at 4:04 except she has bright blue eyes. I was thanked generously by the shelter because they said black dogs have a low adoption rate. This really shocked me cuz they are beautiful dogs too... and my baby gets complimented everywhere she goes on how gorgeous she is. Granted, it was her eyes that caught my attention--but it was the contrast between the blue and black that really got me.

  • This is very sad, to choose a dog because of his color is a superficial thinking. The most important is the innocent soul who wants to live, love and be loved. Black dogs are wonderful dogs, why people think they are different ? This is a sort of racism I think, these wrong ideas are for the primitive inquisition times when they used to burn cats or dogs, because they were black the primitive people thought they were evil, very retarded minds.

  • Hello, I think you were on Dogcast Radio with Julie Hill? I volunteer in a shelter here in Ireland and asked them about black dogs and they told me they don't have that problem.

In fact last week a black Lab got a new home but I can see where you have a problem. My favourites are black & white collies but in the shelter I have met many wonderful black dogs.

I wish you the best of Irish luck. DOGS RULE!

  • @AZUREGLIDE OK so what's the difference and can we implement that here?

  • @PatriciaBianco I think you may have a problem specific to your area or country. I have been volunteering at the shelter for 8 months now and there isn't a problem with black dogs. You could promote them more - get them bandanas that are colourful, if you have a website do short 10 second videos showing their personality and maybe have a dog of the week - a black dog. We've had a number of black lab crosses and they do get homes because they are lovely dogs. I would try to promote them more.

  • i actually really like black dogs...they are beautiful

  • Aww, I have a black lab mixed with chow shes so pretty.. I would NEVER find a better dog then her :) and I personally think black dogs are the prettiest dogs EVER!!! <3 Duffy, shes my baby girl. I wouldnt trade her for the world!

  • That was so sad. I never knew that.

  • I have three rescue dogs, two of them are black. They all have their own silly goofy, sometimes very energetic personalities!!!!!

  • So touching... I volunteer at a shelter, and fell in love this a black pitbull named Diamond. She was the sweetest girl in the world.

Sadly, no one adopted her, and after months of being stressed out in the shelter, she became dog aggressive, and found that she was no longer adoptable, so they had to put her to sleep.

My heart just aches when I watched this. :o(

  • @schnad :((( so sad

  • @schnad i had tears in my eyes when i saw this comment. :)

  • @schnad Very sad. I have worked with 2 Pit Bulls and they are the nicest dogs - very human orientated. Dogs do get stressed in shelters but do they really have to be PTS?

  • @schnad I live in New Jersey...last August I adopted a black female mix pit bull named "Diamond" I believe she came from down south...we think she is about 2....any chance they are the same? FJA

  • @fa0798 I wish... but the Diamond I'm talking about was euthanized a long time ago (Oct 2009). I can still picture her resting her head in my lap when I would snuggle with her. It makes me teary just thinking about it now. Please treat your Diamond right and help educate others about the breed. Take care.

  • Wonderful video...nicely done!
