  • Love your tutorials VstPatches. But how do you record each mix channel on the sequencer??

  • @WestCoastFront Thanks! Do u want to have each Redum part on its own seq track? If so,Right Click (or CTRL+R Click on Mac)and select Copy pattern to track. Then press F8 for tool menu and select "Extract Notes to lanes" / Explode / Move. This gives you a note lane for each Redrum channel. If you then want to convert each sound/channel to an audio track, go to FILE / Bounce Mixer Channels.Tick the channels you want to bounce, and select Bounce to New Tracks in song+MUTE ORIGINAL CHANNELS. Cheers!

  • @VstPatches Sorry mate, i don't know how to do that? Please make a tutorial on that! I tried it for 30min and no luck?

  • Thank you so much for the tips! I was using, one redrum machine for each channel. I will try this method on my next track.

  • Mixer channel isn't even there for me wtf.

  • nice vid thanks for the info. I will try it out in my next beat.

  • You could also create a redrum sub mix with a 14:2 mixer and run that into just one mixer channel. Its easier to manage in my opinion.

  • @ButterShark True, and if you don't need to use Record's better EQ to process individual drum sounds then you could do that. However there are times when you will need to EQ sounds on their own, using a better EQ, and Reasons 14:2 mixer only has basic EQ.

  • So can you show a video on setting up multipal bands with different inputs.. I gather once it is saved I could easily set up each band as they would be recorded live or studio.. thanks.. John

  • @coolmixes I would, but my audio interface is basically a 2-in 2 out (ie stereo) interface. If you use a multi-channel audio interface, all available inputs will show - eg Input Chanel 1, Input Channel 2, Input Channel 3 etc. Just assign the input of your interface to the mixer channel in record. Hope this helps. Sorry that I can't make a video to show this.

  • made me think of the how u would mix using the tr 909...sigh

  • @thebub716 I had access to a 909 some years back. Took a few samples of it. Funny you should mention the 909, as I have dug those samples out and been working on a 909 Reason Refill. Would love to have that 909 all to myself again!

  • @VstPatches you're telling me bud lol owning a 909 is a goal of mine that im working on....just havent got the money yet :(....but one day!...then after that its the 808 :))

  • nic vid. Soon i will get to understand more. It's has been 5 months now since i been working with reason 4.0. Recycle 2.1 and record i just got like a few days ago. So im still learning.

    Peace

  • @fortgreene31 Good luck with learning all your new software! Cheers!

  • If I wanted to quiuckly set up for a band or with a large amount of inputs to record studio or live with different bands how quickly can this be set up to record? Is there a limit to the number of inputs to record @ 1 time? I was looking into the new Presonus firestudio with optical into the digi max. What are your thoughts on this or a different interface with 24 channels? B Nice if you or someone could show a video on how quickly you could set up for a live recording with several inputs

  • @coolmixes As far as I know there is no limit to how many inputs you can record at once (the only limit is the power of the computer you are using). I don't know about the presonus firestudio, as I only use a 2-channel Edirol UA5 audio interface (I only record track at a time). Your best to check the Sound On Sound website for info on audio interfaces, as they have done loads of reviews.

  • thanks alot man, there is alot devices to use than in reason though...great vid

  • You're welcome. Thanks for the comments. Cheers!

  • @madsonrecords Yep, lots more devices, and 1 cool mixer. Can be a lot to take in though! Cheers!

  • Dude this is exactly what I needed! Thanks!

If you have any compression, and eq settings that you like for drums that you feel work good as a general mix, I would really like to see them.

  • You're welcome! I don't tend to use the same settings all the time as the sounds I use change and so dictate the settings I use. One thing I do like to do is side-chain all of the drums against the kick. Basically create a sub mix of the rest of the drums (minus kick) and sidechain compress them using the kick as a trigger. It makes the drum track pump. Hope this helps, cheers!

  • Thanks. Are you having any processing problems. I am using windows. Pent 4. 3 gigs or ram and 133 mghz. I seem to have have not enough processing power 2 of the demos.

  • great tip thanks

  • You're welcome! Thanks for the comment!

  • Are you using Record as well as Reason? This tutorial requires both Reason 4 and Record (as the Redrum won't show if you are just using Record). The mix channel is a Record option and not a Reason option. The version of Record I am using is a beta version (build 542) as Record doesn't ship till Sept 9th. Reason 4 is what you will need as Record won't work with earlier versions of Reason. I am also using a Mac for this tutorial. Hope this helps you. Maybe you are using an earlier beta of Record??

  • I dont see the mix channel in the create section and im using reason 4.0 on mac. Do I have a late version?
