will you ever consider getting a intensity shuttle pvr that can upload your footage straight to your computer, and can record hdmi gameplay (but only if you manage to loose an hdcp signal)
dude even though i am a nerd in computers you are like a tv studio broscaster with all thouse fancy equiment (which i want but i am on a budget and i am 13 years old)
I've heard of DVHS, but I've never heard of DVCPRO before, I'm assuming it was and maybe still is used in TV studios for recording high quality footage for broadcasting on live TV. Ah Optimus, I don't think RadioShack uses that brand anymore, that's a RadioShack brand.
Question. Where did you get these 2 DVCPRO decks? I was just wondering if you could hook one of these up to a satellite TV system and use it to record TV shows. I don't see why not its basically a digital VCR.
All I can say is wow - I use a standard def video capture & HI-8 camera then edit stuff on just a HP desktop! Got dual monitors though, one is 1080p and the other is just 720... Now if only I had HD footage to edit :)
Why this guy was / is really old school! VHS tapes and cassette tapes LOL. Why don't if you haven't already get something like Dazzle HD and record directly to your computer instead of to tapes and stuff?
@freesoftz actually its not old school at all. If you would know stuff about the television business, its quite common that these high quality machines are still in usage today
I sure hope he went full digital by now, the work flow is so much cleaner and faster, you pull the SD card from the cam into the computer, you edit and render and you're done!
Wait, did you just record yourself recording yourself, then record yourself recording yourself backwards? o.o Won't the fabric of time and space collapse?
If that stuff ever dies on you, you could buy a Hauppage HD PVR box-thing. It's a pretty inexpensive solution to record component and composite footage directly into a few different formats on your computer in 720p. I just bought one and I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail tomorrow, but look it up. There's a few videos of game footage floating around on youtube if you wanna see what the end result looks like.
Some of them had firewire interfaces available for them. You could also use a transcoder or HD-SDI.
HD-SDI is a professional interface.
HDMI is a consumer interface.
While this particular machine isn't "HD" capable, you'd really be surprised what you can do with a 480p signal on the right equipment.
These decks can be bought all day on eBay, but most of them will have to be re-capped which would cost about $1,100 or more depending on where you go.
lol nice. i used to DI everything for audio and master it on the pc :P Mostly though any audio i ever did was not for fiilm, so i basically didnt have to go through all those steps.
Damn, I wish I could get my hands on THAT recording equipment.
I never got past using 2 VCRs and a 4-track tape deck multi-tracker, haha. Computers make everything too easy these days and take away the nostalgic feel of video editing.
That would be cool to have...There is something about figuring how to get by only on what you already have and having no budget that almost makes me take that back though...(as far as making videos).
Nice tape deck, could just do with a head replacement though. I can't imagine how'd go HD if you still want a tape based system, the decks are way too expensive.
also id like to formaly request a vectrix review and other similar consols, if you remember any i cant, as well as a comprehensive review of the one and only "elite".
@InecomCompany You need to buy some new equipment and use these as backups... More importantly, you need a TriCaster. Its got all that you really need. Add a mixer, and you are set my friend. Go check out TWiT by Leo Laporte... You can look it up here on YouTube... BTW the tricaster should fulfill your recording and playback needs with one terabyte hard drives. You can use these drives over and over and over and over again millions of times
this is some fancy stuff. i just use the Gamebridge myself, using svideo connections, and record to pc with virtualdub. your equipment is much larger and sophisticated than the gamebridge, which is smaller than a deck of cards. I want one of these!
God I love electronics, thanks for posting this. You record this stuff very oldschool. I would record my things directly from my tv onto my computer. Now days you could probably do everything with just your comp, a mic, your tv, and a bunch or a few cords. But I guess that would ruin the tech/classic feel of the atmosphere now wouldn't it?
And yes, that is true, the more fans, blinking lights, and noises it makes the cooler it appears.
This is only a part of what I'd do, most people who do this get into it from something else. I'd recommend a more stable career like engineering. -CGRHD
Wow you put a lot of work into your videos. I havve a question. What is the advantage to recording the game footage on tape rather than capturing it directly to your PC?
I'm not lugging the editing system back and forth from home to work, also stability and reliability is better with tape. Tape is solid when recording 2 hour chunks of footage. Watch the Red Faction Part 2 review, that was 10 hours of footage cut into 7 minutes. -CGRHD
Really? I know GameTrailers record with HDMI, they use a Black Magic (as their videos screw up occasionally recirding footage), but do you know any cheap devices that you can record in Composite at all? (I can record in Component - I use a GameBridge, I just can't record in anything that could be considered HD. 480p plus).
I guess I can't comment on the newer video cards, I'm pretty old school and rely on component. Been doing it for 10 years and it never fails. HDMI is great for watching a video or playing a game, but I would be hesitant on trying to record from it. -CGRHD
I've heard it pulls quite a lot of processing power to record in higher resolutions.
I do like HDMI, but sometimes it's "too" good, on some 360 & PS3 games you can see a lot more Ailasing going on than you do with Component. especially around intricate things like trees leaves and sides of people.
The more blinking lights and whirring fans, the cooler it is.

He still has to edit with an editing software on his computer, this is just the equipment he uses to get the video on to his PC in the first place.

Then why not just use a TV Capture Card?
GenericRubbishName 2 years ago
For my masters, I use:
For TV and Games: 1985 Sony SL-HF 400 Super Betamax Hi-Fi with PCM and line level meters
For TV: A 1998 JVC HR-VP 48U 4-heads mono and 1999 JVC Super VHS hifi.
For my dubbing I use a 1990's GE VG-7910 VHS linear stereo deck.
All in all it cost me $99 :). How does that sound from a professional standpoint? As an amateur it makes really great results.

Out of curiosity do you have anything that can record HDMI yet? I'm just having a nightmare of a time trying to get equipment to do it myself.

Part of the reason they use HDMI is so people can't record it. Don't even try it, just go component or composite.
