  • how about the lining how to add it... will it look ugly on side split

  • hi m trying to sew this but iam new at sewing and dnt even have machine so i am using hand sew so i can gft it....but when i tried transferring pattern using tracing wheel it didnt worked. i had to transfer all markings again m going to make some alteration as side zip and side split.. can you give me some tip how to sew invisible zipper with hand...sorry for so many troubles, i liked your videos as they are very detailed n simple

  • i ve learned a tip: if the seam line of the front part is little longer than the back part (BF plus 1 cm) the skirt would stand MUCH better.

  • how would i go about adding side seam pockets to the pattern?

  • You have inspired me! Thanks so much. -Desperate Dress Designer Dummy

  • Oh god this is like watching one of my nightmares Im so bad at maths

  • I feel like she explained it more than she would have on threadbanger. :)

  • Can you please make more pattern drafting videos. Thank you!

  • Couldn't you divide the total sum of your waist by 4 and add on 1in for dart & ease?

Thanks for making these awesome videos too!!

  • Can I use a ruler insted of that other ruler

  • Great tutorial!

I use lining wallpaper to make my patterns. Very cheap, can be brought for as little as a couple of quid.

  • See if America decided to switch to the decimal system like everyone else, you wouldn't have the problem of using fractions. Just use centimeters, much simpler!!!!

  • Yay! I'm not the only one that does mini patterns on graph paper!!!

  • 1. How did you decide to do a 1/2 in. dart and how did you decide how long the dart would be? I thought the measurement of a dart was supposed to be the difference between two circumference-type measurements (like if you had a dart going from your waist to your hip, it would be as big as difference between your waist and hip measurements...)

    2. How did you decide to do the front 1/2 an in. down from line A and the back 1/2 and in. above line A? Are these just standards that work with most ppl?

  • Love your tutorials thanks only thing i dont like is the weird noise at the beginning of every video! quite irritating

  • I like!

  • Thank you for this video!

  • Why do you put darts in the front? Most commercial patterns would only have darts in the back. I would guess because of the curve of your derrière...

  • awesome! it was really clear your explanation, you should be a teacher! !!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!

Finally someone can really explain how to do a pattern !!!

  • Are there suppose to be darts in the front and back of the skirt?

  • corinne, one of your many talents is being able to teach! and make excellent howto videos!! my 60year old sewing professor could not make us comprehend this good! so thank you!

  • Corrine, you're looking like Amy Lee with that bun! ;3

Also, I love how your headband is lettuce colored. It makes me want to pick clovers. :P

  • Loving the Rebecca Turbow shirt Corinne :) I recognize that from the old Threadbanger episode.

  • I really appreciate the drawing it on graph paper step, it is great for visual learners. Maybe I'm having reduced brain function at this hour and I missed it, but do you have instructions for adding seam allowance to the pattern?

  • Actually if you can do decimal points, you just need to know the conversion from fractions to decimal point. I work at a fabric counter and we have to use the decimal point since our calculator doesn't do fractions.

    1/8 = .125

    1/4 = .25

    1/3 = .33

    3/8 =.375

    1/2= .5

    5/8 = .625

    2/3=.66

    3/4 = .75

    7/8 = .875

  • @Earendilgrey Thanks for the conversions! I am a bit of a traditionalist and like to know how to do things without a calculators help. My sewing teacher was a stickler about knowing fractions. I guess it rubbed off a bit.

  • @Craftovision Yeah I go back and forth since I learned both ways. Since I use the decimal points at work all day they have kind of stuck.

  • your top's from rebecca turbow, right?

  • @Asnov Yup! I love that shirt. Soooo comfy.

  • Now I can't wait until your next video!

  • Thank you very much for making that so easy!!I have a lot of trouble trying to make patterns, this (even with the math) makes everything easier !!!

Loving the scarf as an headband!!

    beijo

  • please please please do a blouse pattern

  • I don't want to sound cheese... but I love you!!! :p

    very nice tutorial!

  • Great video! Will you be doing a video on drafting a basic bodice pattern too? It would be awesome if you could!

  • How do you multiply fractions? lol I completely forget! I can add no problem, but I am completely bereft of any real math skills. lol

  • @YostBride11 There is a website called webmath(dot)com. That will help!

  • @YostBride11 you multiply across the top and bottom. so if it's one half times one half (1/2 x 1/2) you multiply the ones on top, and get one, and then the twos on the bottom, and get four. your answer is one over four (1/4). if you are multiplying by a whole number, change then number (say its 5) to 5 over 1 (5/1) hope this helps!

  • Just the video ive been looking for. Thank you very much. Could you teach how to draft a pattern for a simple shirt?

  • when the video ended, i totally did the little figer scissor snip snip thingy at the end! awe! i miss the old threadbanger so much!

  • when i draft patterns i like to use tissue paper, like the kind that you stuff into present bags. it's a good way to recycle :)

  • U r back...i m so happy...

this is a very very useful video...thank you for sharing !

i cannot help but admire your fabulously down eye-brows every time, i know its completely off topic, but do you mind sharing ur secret

  • Corrine,

I just love all your video's..They are so informative and easy to follow.

Thank you so much for sharing♥

  • And COULD YOU LOOK CUTER? Um....no. Absolutely not.

  • What a solid, clear, amazingly helpful video! I want to have an I-Told-You-So party.

  • This is an amazing video. So precisely clear, completely understandable for even a beginner. Very well explained. Corinne, you look amazing btw! I can't wait to see the rest of the skirt videos!

  • @MELBandRYMO Thank you so much! That is really great to hear. I really wanted to explain it in a way that everyone could understand. I was totally confused when I first started to learn. and Thanks again! I don't mind hearing that either;)

  • Great job explaining this perfectly! I knew how to draft a skirt pattern...but have yet to actually do it. Maybe one of these days... Can't wait to see the rest of the series :)

  • Why are you so awesome?

  • i love your vids! thanks again for being so great!! oh and you've got a body to kill for ;)

  • Ooo, that is cool. If only I wasn't terrible at sewing!

  • I'm searching for a man's messenger bag and I can't find one that I really like , so please can you show us how to make one? plz plz plz plz plz plz

I will love you for ever if you do it :D

  • @pepermint26 Hi, just happened to see your comment. I have a messenger bag tutorial- search 'Whitney Sews messenger bag' on youTube to find. I made it using vintage TMNT sheets, but you could easily make it using a khaki or corduroy for a nice manly look. Hope that helps :)

  • @aglanceatmyworld oh THANK you :D

  • I love you hair band! soooo cute :)

  • they have similar paper at the dollar store in the mail packing section

  • I lost...

  • just one question, i live in Australia so I use cm not inch is it the same math? P.S. i not good at math is there a cheet way? lol

  • @JeSuis007 yeah I totally don't understand inches :( cm's and mm's are a lot easier. Why can't everyone use metric!

  • @JeSuis007 It is the same math just convert the inches to mm or cm correctly. There is a website called webmath if you need a good cheating option;)

  • @Craftovision oooooooooooooh ok, I havent done much sweing but i will try now! you have inspired me to make my own clothes, I can make small things but a whole skirt :S have a great day! :)

  • I really LOVE your head band it is very cute!!!

  • fractions are evil lol

  • Can you do a tutorial on that awesome headband?

  • @LuvSpicy It is really easy...buy a scarf from the thrift store and tie it in a bow;) It is a rectangle scarf not square. Thanks for the compliment! I love that scarf! xox c

  • omg you're so pretty!

  • I always make my own patterns... My tip for everyone is to not second guess how the measurements go together... if you do you WILL mess it up.

  • I can never manage to draw straight lines with a ruler, I feel like a 3rd grader who struggles to make the perfect lines for his drawing or something. UGH!

  • Wow! Just wow. I needed this!

I do actually have a question about it. over the past 5 years, I put on weight; if I follow the instructions, and it's my measurements, will it look good on me despite the weight, because it's my measurements, or should I try to find some other skirt shape? (I've just recently gotten back into exercising and lost some weight. So I don't think I'll gain MORE fat.)

  • @001php I would do a version of the skirt in muslin first which is a really inexpensive fabric. Then you can adjust accordingly. I wanted to show the basics of pattern making with a simple silhouette but you can use this basic silhouette as a jumping ground for all other skirt shapes. But overall since you will be using your measurements I think it will work for you.

  • Also, If you need more shaping in the waist area, that is what the darts are for. A dart with a wider depth and a shorter length will give you more room in the stomach area. Honestly, it takes a bit of practice and readjusting to get the perfect fit for you. But I would try this pattern first and see where you need to adjust. You may not need to.

  • @Craftovision Thank you so much for the reply! That's very helpful information. Thanks! :D

  • Very cool. I look forward to the other parts.

  • I'm so glad you're back on youtube. =)

  • Awesome. Since I taught myself how to make patterns, there are so many important details I missed out on, this is so helpful.

  • <3

  • Thank you so much for sharing, this is so informative. :)

  • Thanks so much!! This is one of the easiest how to draft tutorial I've seen, and easy to watch!! :)

  • This is perfect Corinne! I have been in a bit of a skirt making frenzy lately, but getting a pattern that fits properly has been a bit of a problem for me. I can't wait to see the final product!

  • course?

  • @Serena0183 I will be posting 3 more videos on this specific skirt. How to sew skirt darts, how to sew an invisible zipper and how to put all the skirt pieces together.

  • @Craftovision i think she means you meant course, not coarse in your description box :P

  • @lizzielizardlipz haha yes, you are probably right. I don't know how it happens but sometimes I am just such a dizz;)

  • @Craftovision

Hey i don't know if you ever got my messages but umm.....can you make a gothic halloween dress .

  • @ThePurpledragon007

    Step 1: acquire a dress

    Step 2: dye it black.

  • @Evange

May i say um... that's not really one of your creations It's just someone else's creation and dying it. I wanted to make someone that i wanted to actually make and what nevermind. I just remembered that i'm making a different one and i don't need any help.

  • and i can't wait for the rest of the videos :)

  • Love you corrine! :3
