  • The garage that fitted it reckon that it's the face of the flywheel not being completely flat. I asked a couple if lads from work and they say the same.

It only does it when picking up drive. When idling in neutral, it's completely silent, and there is no gear rattle (I had the 20.5lb flywheel for this reason as it's only 1.5lb lighter than the stock DMF). unclamped or filly clamped, it's absolutely fine, just always get this under partial clamping when pulling off.

  • Don't quote me 100% on that I dont want to be responsible if we both blow a trans lol

But if you search around vwvortex.com you'll find that it's most likely flywheel chatter, a lot of BMW owners have the same issue, YouTube is flooded with single mass light flywheel chatter BMW videos.

The only other thing it could be from what somebody told me is an input shaft bearing but the fact that both our cars with the same clutch package sound the same especially after you noticed that yours started

  • Same noise in my vr6 from the same upgrade. The single mass flywheel has no springs to dampen the vibration therefore causing that noise. I actually brought my car into the shop last week for that noise and they showed me a track Porsche with a single mass that sounded like the gear box was gonna explode in neutral.
