I stumbled upon this by accident; years ago I heard someone do something similar on a local college station, and after failing to find it, I found this, and was blown away! Andrew Garcia's cover is an interesting version, definately a departure from the original, but THIS is great...just a flesh and blood rock cover! EXCELLENT job man!

So your chords. . . close. The version by Andrew Garcia and Paula's (Andrew's in the key C#m, Paula's in Dm. but the open chords or the formula that you play with a capo is) Em, Am,G, B7. This is a i, iv, VI, V7 chord progression. basically why yours sounds doesn't sound 'wrong' is cause the chords you used instead share some of the same notes. I could get more into it, but I won't.
