1) Because it was glamourised in the 60's and 70's and still is considered to be something of a luxury commodity.
2) Because people turn into f**king animals and Neanderthal like idiots inflight perhaps due to the pressure related to flying or the cabin pressure itself or a combination of both factors and the smartest people will ask the silliest questions and do the most mind-boggling things onboard.
3) So when people become normal when they're back on ground, the realise the immense stupidity of their actions and try to make light of the situation and turn to comedy.
I remember my first flight with Pam Ann at the Albury. Pam you've only gotten better with time ( just like a good bottle of Red pinched from the first class galley )
