Umm holden didn't design the RB30.. nissan did and holden used it in there VL because they needed to replace the engine they were going to use because of emissions laws, RB30 is also in the R31 skyline ( nissan )
Mine has done 220,000 and has no problems at all engine wise, noisey lifters but thats my fault for changing the cam and using the lifters that came with the cam and not cleaning them out. They are very solid engines. Just yeah the gearboxes.. are only 'decent' lol

@Cbowhunter Aussie car's are no where near the best lol. Get the 2010 June issue of "Motor" car mag. Walkinshaw got two new VE wagons, charged them to make 450 and 480kw and they only managed a 13.1s. Cars with half that get better times.

good choice of donks my VL Calais had 440,000 clicks when i sold it
my daughter had it for a further 50,000 and was going fine except 4th gear was crappy in the slush box
