This is so awesome. You're so clever! I did trim off the middle bit of my free motion foot after watching your vid. I was terrified it was going to snap at the wrong place but the risk paid off lol. Thank you. I don't think I'm brave enough to try the rubber band bit though.
Great idea. You are brave to cut your machine foot. The tool you are using is traditionally also called "nippers", very commonly used by electricians. They are on Amazon for as little as $2, probably @ home Depot & Michaels's as well. I think a regular metal nail file could also be used to de-burr the cut off foot. I love your blog, and all your great free-motion quilting designs as well. You are very creative. Thanks for sharing to inspire so many others.
Thanks so much! I got it on there finally and I tried it out. It didn't seem to work. I put the feed dogs down but still when I lowered the presser foot lifter down to sew it was so tight I couldn't move my fabric hardly at all. And it was a complete jumble on the back of the fabric and not tight at all! :-( If you don't have any ideas for me haha that is fine I'll take it to a repair shop or someone. :-) I appreciate your help! Hopefully you can help. Thanks so much! -Laura B.
@HARVEYRAY2477 - You might want to try using a rubber band on the top of your foot to lift it up higher. If this won't work, chances are you bough a high shank foot for a low shank machine.
@lcvday i have been having same problem as above. i fit the foot and feed dogs then lowered the presser foot. but had problems straight away with it been too tight to manovour. the top side stitches where all different sizes and the underneath was a jumble. My darning foot and sewing machine are compatable both low shank, please help?
Hello. I LOVE your tutorials! I saved all of them and you have honestly taught me how to quilt!! I have learned everything from YOU!:-) anyways I just recently bought a generic free motion foot just like this one on the video. I do not know how to put it on my singer machine! :( please help me. Could you email me at burcham7164@yahoo.com
I took off the reg. Foot and that didn't work. So then I took off the foot holder. Still can't figure it out! How do I put it on??:-) thanks!
@HARVEYRAY2477 - There should be a little screw to the left that connects your feet to the shank (the metal bar that moves the foot up and down. Unscrew that screw and attach the foot so the "U" shape fits around the screw.
If it absolutely doesn't work, then chances are you have the wrong foot for that machine. Singers can be funny because they can be a slant shank. Talk to a dealer or look in your manual to make sure you have the right foot for your machine.
Fantastic ! I was absolutely terrified, but it worked a treat. I'm very grateful, thank you .

I will have to try this. I think it will work out very well because I don't like the hopping. Thank you!
