I watched this in a FOUR hour health and safety training course and the bloke doing the talk said this happened out in Dubai and apparently he got up there and he lit his lighter to take a look inside the tanker ( i suppose to see how much is in there or whatever ) and then the rest is history
Anything that can cause a spark to mix with fuel (vapour) and O2 would do it. Apparently even remote control locking your car or static build up has been known to cause the same result! I too watched this at a safety briefing
clarifty, petrol is not flamable, the vapour it gives off is, which is also deadly if stick ur head in a bucket with a half litre of petrol in, as the vapour is heavier than air it stays in the bucket and will kill u
As soon as the hatch on the tanker opened, Petrol vapours escaped due to being heated up and expanding on the tankers trip to the station. petrol vapour is explosive, the petrol isself is not flamable, but it is a highly volatile liquid and the vapour is what the real problem is, i.e. the stuff u CANT see
I read that a recent research found that cellphones indeed do not cause fires at petrol stations. Your language is lovely. I am sure you don't use it in your non-cyber life though big guy...
we saw this video at my training academy when i was doing my security course. It was in our OH&S topic. The guy who catches on fire actually dies from this
just to think i work at a petrol station have u seen all the over vids on here to do with stations, i do work in one of the most dangerous jobs going :(
a cell phone is enough to light the petrol vapour, which is present.

I work for Shell and they have this clip in the safety promotion videos. It wasn't a phone, he was using a cigarette lighter.
