I disagree with allot of the comments I see here about this amp. This is one of the best sounding 112 amp I've played through. The lead channel IMO is far superior to other amps in its price range. Very good and clean Metal tones, my amp has stock tubes and speaker; this thing does NOT get muddy at high gain. If you are getting a muddy sound out of this amp its probbly your pickups NOT the amp.
Ppl, ur expecting too much fromm a 400 dollar amp. you guys think its goin to sound like a marshall jvm? wel NO IT WILL NOT!!! this a good amp and stop destroying other ppls dreamns of having a tube. because sum ppl are rich bastards that can buy all the shit they want
I have this amp, it sounds much better with modifications.
A different amp will give you better value for money stock, but a modified Valveking will give you a tone that can compete with pricier amps. It's very much a modification platform and should be treated as such.
A new speaker will make a big difference. The newer Valvekings come with pretty good stock tubes, but they may be worth swapping as well.
The electronic circuit of this amp is pretty much identical to a Fender Twin, and on the lead side of the circuitry we almost have a Mesa Rectifier except for ONE capacitor value. Conclusion? My Valveking sounds like the love child of a Mesa and a Fender Twin, and all it took was a speaker and a 39k capacitor. Thank you, engineering classes in college!
If you can find a Way Huge 'Fat Sandwich' pedal you will get the best tone out of this amp that you can possibly get. I was frustrated with the built-in gain and none of my other pedals, including pedals I tried at the guitar stores, made me happy. The Way Huge 'Fat Sandwich' gives me that classic Clapton over-driven Marshall sound with plenty of sustain and stays consistent at any volume!
This amp is very mediocre for being around 500. You can get much better. It sounds like shit with any pedal you use, it muds up, the trebles are VERY harsh in a live setting. I'm upgrading to a Bugera 333XL thank god... so much better than this amp.
@mynameisDavid92 totally agree :| its an awesome amp, but i dont know why it muds up my tone with my effects, i use a Boss GT-10 and it doesnt sound as awesome. i tried a bugera! legit!
can anyone help me on this. im going to buy a new amp, but i need to choose between the peavey VK 112 or the vox AC15c1. both have tubes and are close in price. i like to shred stuff like buckethead and sometimes i do metal stuff, but i do clean stuff as well...you can say im progressive metall-ysh. so yeah, witch is better for me?
I thinking of buying the valveking 112 or the 212. it's just for practissing in my own bedroom, but also jamming with a drummer. whhich is the best choise, cause the 212 is like, 100 euro's more
I have tried tube swaps, eq front and back etc. The eq really helps the situation by light years especially in the effects loop. I believe it is a good amp, but with the stock speaker it is utter crap. Any help would be much appreciated as we are gigging in less tan a month and I am stumped.
Sorry to say this guys, but a band member hust bought this this 2 days ago. I have a bugera V55 combo that I use 4 cable method with a GT-10. Side by side the bugera makes this amp sound like a toy (clean channels), it has extreme mids, very muddy, and I am having a real hard time getting professional quality sound out of it. I am using an eq in the effects loop of this thing and I still cannot take that overpowering midrange out of the equation.
I have this amp for a little over a year and have already had to put a new jack in it. all new tubes, and had to take it to be fixed for another reason. its a sweet sounding amp but its just not road readdy.
I have the same amp. I got it as a gift, but I don't really like it. It's just not my style. Personally, I suggest just sticking with a Marshall if you want Dinosaur Jr.. Also, nice on the Dino fan. Don't seem 'em that much.
Not saying it sounds bad at all dude, but I have been gigging out of this amp for about 2 years now and I want to throw it out of a window lol. Personally, it just doesn't give me the sustain I want, the distortion is too muddy at high volumes and the reverb is absolute crap.
I really wanted a nice tube amp and I settled for this. I am pretty disappointed with Peavey on this one. Usually they live up to their name...
@mvance11089 yeah i know.you should change the speaker to get a better sound out of it. i sold this amp about a year ago because of the same reason as yours.
I also purchased this amp, and unfortunately im dissapointed aswell. I change the speaker into a celestion g12t 75 watt, the sound changed drastically, it aint that muddy and the mids are much descent.. Still im not satisfied as much, compaired to my previous line 6 spider 4 its sounds much better, but in all i think i should have stuck with that.
@gnikolakis7 Thats the nuttyest comment ive ver heard to prefer a piece of shit digital line 6 amp over a high gain peavey tube amp. you need to train your ear and quit playing amp modelers which have no dynamic tone and give off fake digital static
hey man i know this thing could get loud enough for small gigging but can it also be quiet enough to be played at home without makeing my house be full of loud noise i personally dont care if its loud or not but my parents do and if you use it quietly does it still sound good distorted and if you can please give me a idea bout how heavy it is
what are your settings on the amp for the distorted sound? i have a custom guitar with a single dimarzio bridge pickup in it and Im trying to find an amp thats very loud but doesnt lose its tone or get too muddy. can this amp do a van halenish semi heavy sound? and should i get this or the 212 100 watt valve?
@TheSuicidalSquirrels Well, you could get a 40 watt tube amp (these are loud as hell!) You don't really in my opinion, need much more then that. If you want alot of power you could go with this Valveking 112. But also take note that 1 tube watt= 1.5 solid state watts. So a 30 watt tube amp is really a 45 watt amp, and a 50 is really a 75.
I'm thinking of this amp as my next one because all I have is this shitty Line six spider 3. I'm looking for a clear and sharp tone while maintaining the edge of a metalish sound. (kinda like a Gilbert-esque sound.) My price range is about 425 dollars and Sam Ash has it for about that, but I'm not entirely sure. I heard the foot pedal SUCKS on this thing. Should I grab this baby if i'm trying for that clean edgy sound? What would be a decent alternative otherwise, if not. Thanks! :D
Awesome tone. I 'm looking for a good high gain metal tone and trying to find a good amp, but one that won't be too loud and impossible to play in a small apartment at a normal noise level. Would this one be too loud? Thanks.
nice amp, and nice playing.. does anyone know if this thing is pretty noisy at higher gain settings?? im thinkin about getting this amp and I have the vox tonelab le that i want to run through it... and yea im wondering if i should just dial in a good high gain tone on that through the effects loop or what (it has noise reduction being the main reason i thought about doing that)
it has some noise but I seriously doubt it's anything the noisegate can't kill. also I'm talking about the head, not sure about the 112. I just deal with the noise unless I'm recording. It's not too bad.

thanks bro im thinking of getting the 2x12 combo sometimes in the future since this is a little too small for my needs but great fucking amp overall; love it!
Its an awesome amp. I find it a little bit loud for a practice amp because it needs to be at about 11 o clock on the volume to make the valves drive nicely. You can play it quietly if needed but you do lose some tone. Either way, I still love it
you can run a volume box through the effects loop, that way you can turn the amp volume right up to drive the valves, but the actual volume output is controlled with the volume box
u can get them really cheap brand new from ebay (the box, that is)
just a shame there isn't a smaller wattage version eh? i'm planning on getting one soon. my house is moderately far away from the ones nearby, so hopefully i shouldn't get too many complaints x]
Sounds awesome! I tell ya, I CAN NOT wait to buy one of these! I'm gonna be using a DiMarzio super distortion pup through it, though, so I won't need a pedal.
Yeah this amp is really awsome,at first I was a little disappointed with the way it sounds because my head was stuck with the sound of a Marshall tube amp.I never realized how good the sound is till lately.I'm using a stock Ibanez RG350 in this video.I was planning to buy a distortion pedal but i changed my mind, the distortion on this amp is good enough for me.screams a lot when i do pinch harmonics, and it screams in almost every fret.for me if it screams that easily then it must be really good.
