  • I was in Inveraray earlier this year and the old "Vital Spark" was tied up in the small harbour

my goodness it brought back memories iam sure i could see Dan MacPhail and Para Handy

    arguing.

  • I defy anyone to not tap along with this.

  • What year was this video taken

  • Ahh, nice drinking music!

  • Really nice clip and version of the theme tune.Im proud to say my late great uncle was non other than John Grieve,"Dan MacPhail" himself and Im sure John would have enjoyed this as well.

    Thanks for putting it on.

  • I absolutely love this.

    Andy.

  • I used to wait all week to hear this tune

  • Brilliant man!!

  • well, thats well put together,am sure Para would approve.

  • This video is great (enjoyed the music too). My son lives just across the river from the big crane so it was lovely for me to see the clyde as it was in it's industrial heyday.

  • You can get this version of the theme on iTunes and Spotify, actually. There also a version by the composer Jimmy Shand on his "Greatest Hits". The newer version of the theme, written by Ally Bain in 1994, was never commercially available, sadly (although you can hear it almost in its entirety on the "Para Handy's Tales" double-cassette of stories read by Gregor Fisher, the BBC brought out in the 90s ... )

  • Fantastic. The music and the video. You get 5 stars from me.

  • wonderful video and music :) its a fantastic tune!

  • i thought it was gonna be the theme tune for "the tales of para handy" which is very beautiful, this aint bad either

  • "Steady on,MacPhail, we're in a built up area!" Fantastic! "If Dougie was here he'd tell you himself!"

  • What a wonderful piece of music.

Anybody know what its called ?

The shots of the Clyde are amasing !

    Thanks for posting.

  • The song is called Para Handy, it's also the theme song for an old scotish comedy called The Vital Spark which is about a boat and character's from old storys called Para Handy Master Mariner by Neil Munro

  • Terrific. I remember as a small boy watching the series - my dad always went on about Para Handy. Thanks for this.

  • Love that song thanks

  • Really enjoyed this -thanks.

  • back to my childhood in scotland. can visualise the scene now - all sitting round the fire watching para handy.

  • Great music and first class footage, thanks.

  • I was only a lad when this aired - always loved the tune - many thanks for the post. :-)

  • Possibly my favourite programme and definitely my favourite theme tune for any programme. Does anyone know where I can find the sheet music for it?

  • Best Scottish TV programme ever made.

  • Your right there love the tune.

  • Great programme, great theme tune
