  • I love his pop culture references :)

  • But...but THE MEAT POUNDER WAS A UNITASKER!!!! And the only way he justified it was by saying it could be a paper weight. A fire exstinguisher could be a paper weight...ehh...I still <3 you Alton.

  • @crazywanch101 Yeah, but he replaced it with the motor in that episode.

  • @Sabatuar Hmmm....don't remember that.

  • I just made my first batch of homemade donuts. They tasted better than store bought donuts. Plus I saved about $8. Which I would have usually spent for a dozen donuts & donut holes at my fav donut shop.

  • For those that don't know when she mentions "A Neilson Family" at 6:30... what she means is that the family is one of the small portion of american families that submit data for the Neilson ratings system, which determines what shows gets to continue being shows and what shows ... don't.

    That sure made Alton move...

  • Is it not weird that doughnut holes were the original doughnuts?

  • AB is a BA

  • I love this show

  • I literally JUST made these with the chocolate glaze, and they are unbelievably delicious. This was my first foray into deep frying, and it's super satisfying. Non greasy food, and amazing flavor!

  • James Shafer, if your watching this, why dont you ever bring donuts to rehearsal? you work at Freddies. BRING SOME LOVE!

  • DONUTS! GOOD! XDDDDD

  • I dont care who invented the doughnut penn dutch amish germans blah. I just want the doughnuts

  • Besides confusing the Pennsylvania Dutch with the Amish, he also confuses the Pennsylvania Dutch with the people from Holland--the Pennsylvania Dutch are actually Germans--Dutch in this case being a mispronunciation of deutsch which is the German word for German.

  • It has all been rather mangled at this point, I'm sure there is several scenario's that exist for who did what and when...

  • lol "I'll Be Back!"

  • missed that one

  • hahahaha moo juice

  • Whats the significance of a "Nielson Family"?

  • "Nielson Family" is a referenece to the Neilsen ratings, which determine if a show can stay on American airwaves or not. If your show has low ratings, the show is "sweeped" or taken off the air. A high rating not only keeps the show on the air, but also attracts the attention of commerical sponsors who pay millions of dollars to hawk their wares during the show's breaks. More sponsors = more money for network and studio. Anyways, Alton is trying to appease the Neilsen peeps with donuts.

  • He's riding an SV650!

  • Moo juice xD

  • So, that's definitely a suzuki sv 650n, 2nd gen.... in case anyone was wondering...

  • now good eats is my favorite show on tv but one thing bugs me, he never guves the volumetric conversions, alot of people including me dont have scales as a practacality issue, he always weighs and never gives the conversion

  • bugs me too i love metric and hate costumery

  • Metric is how i measure, i dont live in US,but good eats still rocks!!

  • I wouldn't say he NEVER gives the volumetric concersions, he just gives them very little. The only time i remember him giving a volumetric conversion was when he was making blueberry cake. But I agree, he needs to give them more often.

  • Most cell phones now come with a converter. Use that.

  • Practicality issue?

Decent scale (accurate enough) at walmart: $20

    Size: 6" x 4" x 2"

    Whats impractical about that?

  • who keeps voting down the comments

    is this show sacred

  • indeed this show is sacred, for it was alton who delivered me from a life plagued by culinary ignorance and bland food. Accept his heavenly influence in your life, and you too may know the heaven on earth that is....

    GOOD EATS

    you douchebag

  • Do not say you douchebag when the top chef here is named Brown.

That out of the way, you're right. This show is a guiding light to poor bastards living alone who need cheaper ways to a great meal and fulfilling the void in their existence made by a diet of ramen and cheap coffee. But now that i know how to make shrimp ramen pouches, french onion soup, and cheesecake, my life is once again worth living.

    ...

At least until i get writers block and can't function until i recover.

  • @scoobyDx Okay tyler.

  • @scoobyDx Amen to that.

  • @scoobyDx HALELUJAH BROTHER! PREACH IT!

  • i love doughnuts but could NEVER do this one i'm too scared yes i know i'm a wimp of being burned

  • hm, i'm a bit disappointed in alton. You're never, EVER supposed to twist biscuit dough when cutting. My aunt and i have been making biscuits since i could hardly reach the kitchen counter, we've tried it both ways and believe it or not twisting does make a difference. not twisting actually makes them rise a little higher, though i don't have a scientific explination for it.

  • I think the rising has more to do with *what* you cut it with. Alton mentions in his book never to use a glass to make biscuits.

  • ...He only twists after the cutter is all the way through the dough...

  • i hate when i accidentally buy cake donut holes, oh god cake donuts are just the nastiest. i love powdery jellyfilled goodness

  • Wisk-lickin' Time!!! WoooHooo!

  • oh may, I like it when Alton Brown use his bike. So Marsha his sister then?? man XD I wish if I ever had a brother like Alton Brown

  • Marsha is a character for the show, not his real sister.

  • But the kid that she puts on his lap at the end is his actual daughter.

  • mmmmmm..doughnuts.. I love doughnuts I've always wanted to do some by me self. Really didnt know that Alton Brown already made an episode for it XP thanks ! and thanks LTH for sharing :)

  • HAHA!!! HE GOT PUNKED LOLOL :D

  • i love doughnuts! Hey does anyone know how to make cider doughnuts? I would really like to try making my own.

  • I had my first a few months ago, they are incredibly magical.

  • so, how many cups is 23 ounces???

  • a little less than 3 cups.

  • well, to be more accurate, its 2 and 7/8 cups.

  • Didn't you listen to the man, you have to measure by weight!

  • Worthless comments?

  • A reference to Voodoo Donuts in Portland? "The magic is in the hole"?

    Oh, Alton. I love you.

  • homer.."doughnuts goooooodssss.."

  • Eats, that is.

  • lol

  • "time to make the doughnuts" LOL:)

  • I wonder if the little bunny at the end is his daughter? can anyone clarify.

  • She looks like she could be..

  • She is XD

  • his "sister" is so annoying...I'm glad my sisters aren't like that...I'd have to shoot myself or something.

  • At 9:20, I kept waiting for him to say "Playboy bunny."

  • i know right

  • Hehe, did those girls just sell him his own doughnuts?

  • lol yeah

  • Never underestimate a Cute kid that happens to also be his daughter.....XD

  • I Wonder Why he didn't do Jelly Doughnuts?

  • Jelly doughnuts technically aren't doughnuts. They need holes to be a true doughnut.

  • you know i was thinking, if hes from georgia, wheres his accent? i remember in the gritz episode he said he "lost it for tv"

thats kinda weird, i never knew you could just "lose" and accent

  • If you've ever watched the Colbert Report, then you'll know that Stephen Colbert grew up in South Carolina, and he taught himself to speak without a southern accent because people with southern accents are often depicted as "stupid". I guess you can lose your accent if you really try!

  • wow i didnt know that either, interesting!

  • you know that alton was born in california?

  • He was born in Washington DC.

  • pfft, never mind I completely looked at the wrong section.

  • heh heh heh... lolz...

  • Hugh Laurie from House is British. He "loses" his accent for American television so why not?

  • Was that his daughter?

  • Yup! I recognized her from the honey episode. She's grown up so big!

  • I believe it is. This markes her second appearence, as she can previously be seen in th honey epesode.

  • what about the cookie episode?

  • I speak of his daughter, not his "sister". His daughter had at this point only appeared, I believe, in the honey epesode.

  • She's been in a few episodes. Honey one for sure, plus avacado and the milk one.

  • @Hadra568 and the chocolate chip cookies one

  • ALTON BROWN CAN MAKE ANYTHING!!!

I wonder what he eats on a regular day :)

  • @mostlyeatenchicken mcdonalds :)

  • Did he really say the whole unitasker thing exactly 57 times before this, or was it an estimation?

Oh well. Regardless, another amazing episode. I'd call Alton a genius, but I think that might be selling him short.
