  • Nice grow light setup maybe next year I will have to get one moving seedlings in and out is not much fun

  • Sweet grow lights! Thanks for sharing!

  • Your seedlings all look great, how early can you plant outside where you live. Still frozen solid here. LOL

  • @dalecalder2003 Thank you! I will put the potatoes out on Feb 14th (Valentines Day...easy to remember that! :-) ).

I can also start putting peas out then as well...and my broccoli and cabbage transplants. I don't know if my cauliflower will be ready.. I just decided to give those a try. They may not make it through the heat, once it gets warmer but we'll see!

Tomatoes go in (weather permitting) around March 20th.

  • I think the name tags are supposed to be facing the plants… that way the plants know what they are supposed to be when they grow up… lol. Looks like a really nice set up for starting your plants. They all look so healthy too. Thanks for sharing.

  • @dustyanderson1 Thank you! loll You're right! I'd hate to traumatize them with an identity crisis!!

  • T5 is the way to go. I bought a dual bulb fixture about 6 years ago for Wayyyy too much. I love it though as I'm sure you'll love yours. Your plants look happy too!

  • @SleestaksRule Wow thanks for the feedback! Its awesome to know this will work well!

After I posted this.. lol I moved the lights together (separated by about 5 inches. Now I can fill my whole shelf with transplants. (lol yes now I have 3 shelfs empty..heh..room for more plants!!)

Also I went to a sporting goods place and found that mylar blanket you mentioned many videos ago for only $1.99! it was a nice size! I couldn't find any mylar wrapping paper but this worked great!

  • Thanks for the shout out! This is what I've come to love about the garden community here on YT...sharing ideas! Glad you like your set-up. Have fun!

FYI, all of my CP tomato seeds germinated WOO-HOO!!

  • @chikkagrl Thanks again it really is so much better now! :-) That's awesome that your CP seeds germinated!

  • very nice setup. happy growing

  • i like those lights-they serve me well in the past---i have various versions of the shelving too-i like them for usability-yet-i have a problem with the locking bushings messing up-i set them up to a decent level and drill metal tap screws in them-it makes them easy to move around but they are at a fixed position for the most part---it looks lovely---peace

  • I really didn't need to see this because I'm very close to getting into this indoor growing thing and all I need is a slight push.

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • @baconsoda nudge..nudge.ohhhh...just pick up a light..and put a few plants under it. loll

  • Can i use store bought potatoes for sprouting?

  • @wtf0804 if you can find organic potatoes you can try those. They worked for me a few years ago in the fall when I couldn't find "seed potatoes".

Regular non-organic apparently have some retardant on them that inhibits potatoes from sprouting.

Exposing them to the light does help them sprout! Its been working out well!

  • I might have to try that out

  • That looks like a fairly bright light. Oughta work out nicely. I'm not sure, kinda hard to tell...but it sounds like you're getting excited about this years garden. :-)

  • @mhpgardener lloll yea just a little excited :-).

It really is a bright light. I was going to use a light and a t-5 from one of the "big box" stores, but they weren't as bright. (they had them on display). Also this came with the bulb and when you add it together at the big box store its only a few dollars more. Plus I like the daisy chain!

lol as I set up those pulley's I thought.. "I know Bobby could invent something much better than this!!" But oh well this'll do!

  • looks like you will fill that space in no time.. so much fun!

  • @dianemummvideos loll that is so funny! I was JUST thinking about that as I looked over at it! lol hmmmmm I can add this..and then add that!.. lol

  • how much are those lights and where from? :) Lookin' good there!

  • @emsapowell They are Hydrofarm lights. I picked them up here in Dallas. The unit and the bulb (daisy chain included to link more than one together) was $28.

They're probably available at your local hydroponics store ..that's where I found them.

    :-)

  • @gardenvespers777 lol. @ Local Hydroponics store...yeah I don't THINK we have one of those here. That'll probably be an order placed...lol

  • @emsapowell lolllll.... The hydrofarmDOTcom website has info on where/how to buy.

    :-)

  • Great looking plants! mine are doing well but having a hard time getting peppers to germinate so if i cant i will just buy starts..hate to but still learning to start indoors..so far i have about 50 plants growing ..mostly tomato and cucumber and watermelon

  • @Thesmalltowngardener I just started some today (the plastic bag route)

I think they need a warm temp to germinate. I'm doing some Anaheims.. sigh ..not like Hatch..but they'll do I guess. lol I'll let you know if anything sprouts. I have never grown peppers ever.

50 plants! that's great!! Its fun to start them indoors. It helps me get through the winter.

  • @gardenvespers777 Oh man some hatch peppers would be great im gonna see if i can locate some :)

  • @Thesmalltowngardener Hope you have better luck than me... I tried.. all I could find was $10 for some seeds...forget that! lol

  • @gardenvespers777 I saved a whole hatch chile and let it dry. I can hear the seeds rolling around inside. Also saved the seeds from one I got over the summer. We'll see if it comes up and produces anything :)

  • @Thesmalltowngardener It doesnt take much heat.. just a little. If you dont have a grow mat put them near an 30 w bulb just until the germinate

  • Hey, looks great! Nice way to use the vertical space. I re-built my lighting rig today as well. I was unhappy with the old one, too small and confined. The new ones is much spacier and I hope it will do well. :)

  • @TheOntarioGardener Thanks! I hope you post a video of you new setup!

I like my set up so much better now too.

:-) I can have ALOT now! loll I am going to try going some annual flowers as well. (that will save me some $ from buying flats from the nursery!...um well lol maybe not ..it takes electricity to run the lights!

  • @gardenvespers777 The video has been uploaded already. Feel free to check it out:)

I know all about buying from a grow center, it adds up very quickly! lol.

  • That's a great set up!! I have seen a couple of people do this and it seems so organized. I have been thinking about doing one, but I don't know where I would put it. I am out of room. lol

  • @loislaney23 Thank you! I know what you mean...I had a floor plant die on me so..that is when I thought to but the growlights there.. it worked out great!
