  • My #1 song.

  • probably one of their most amazing songs...they are in he legend...

  • Nobody at my school listened to this stuff ! Thats why I never spoke to any of the twats, I was too busy getting wrecked ! The voice of my twisted generation still haunts me !

  • wow

  • Awesome sounds. One of my all time fav songs. Gives me chills.

  • AGREED.. BRILLIANT

  • Anyone that claims this isn't "goth" doesn't know what goth is IMO. Spooky, melancholy, poetry, uniquely strange and mysterious, this song and performance and this the music and it's tone expresses a beautiful Gothic vibe, that unfortuanately many don't quite understand....

  • so schön!!!!

  • Just listened to this with my 3 year old twins. Now they are both crying.

  • @tilerman Your kids have great taste and show an understanding and appreciation for music that I would like to call "promising".

Who knows? In a decade or so, we might actually have decent music on the top lists...

  • Best song ever and the footage really works with the performance.

  • this is a seriously trippy song. great to study to coz its not distracting. brilliant. acid trip though.....my brain is still trying to get over it

  • @ohfoolishworkerbee: Couldn't have put it better.

    @ MisAnnThrope: Take a po-tay-to, and a fish... :-D

    Bauhaus really are preposterously under-rated.

  • pure BRILLIANT!! Peter Murphy's voice still brings chills down my wee spine ..... thank you for the music xooxoxo

  • wow!

  • They started in the late seventies... the only true goth band (for better or for worse) as far as I'm concerned.

It's also worth noting that while they wrote some of the darkest music they also had a great sense of humor, especially when you look at small talk stinks or lillies and remains, and unlike some other 'artists' never took themselves too seriously.

  • @ohfoolishworkerbee Must mention the hilarious "Nerves" from "In the flat field" . To the best of my knowledge, Bauhaus were the only "Goth" band ever to sing about fishcakes! The music press, in Britain, very deliberately chose to overlook the humour in their music and gave them a very undeservedly hard time. If ever evidence was needed that most music critics haven't a clue, their treatment of Bauhaus was it. Btw, "Go away white" was at least as good a comeback as could've been hoped for.

  • @ohfoolishworkerbee Why do you say they are the only truly goth band?

  • A great Song from a great band!

  • OMG that was amazing.. took me wayyy back!!!

  • The first major Bauhaus appearance was at the front of "The Hunger", starring David Bowie, Catherine Denueve and Susan Sarandon, in 1983, and it's reasonable to assume that they'd been together for at least a little while then. That puts them together at least ten years before Marilyn Manson, so Marilyn, like the rest of us, grew up listening to this. This band was entirely unique - I've still never heard anything else like them. If anything could make me believe in vampires it'd be Bauhaus.

  • should be more goth videos on here and more ppl who wana date a goth girl like me

  • @gothicpassionata88 well,actually i'd very glad to date you..if only you weren't so far!!:(

  • what a ponce !!!!

  • Bauhaus= Post-Punk

    Manson=Glam Metal/Shock Rock

    BIG difference.

  • @espdkv420 I wouldn't even say he's glam metal, that would put him on the same level as Motley Crue, Skid Row, Ratt, Twisted Sister, or Dokken...and he's not up there, his music just inspires fourteen yr olds to follow his meaningless rants... o,,o So with you on the difference though, Manson is nothing like Bauhaus. The quality and the heart that went into the music of Bauhaus outdoes anything that Brian Warner can come up with.
  • @JadeWeapon

True. Well, those are more of classical bands I would say, but thats just opinion. Point being, Bauhaus, is amazing!!!

  • NOt Maonson THis sound heeee Nirvana travk 12 on nevermind !!!

  • wicked Band

  • I hear where manson gets his sound...

  • Baleful sounds and wild voices ignored

I'll luck disaster, the one reward ...

  • It give me chills its completly crazy.

  • gosh...spectacular.

  • i waz there.....

  • Perfectly Brilliant!

  • gorgeous, haunting

  • omg i love the singer's voice *______*

  • I just have 2 say, more people should really listen 2 this wonderful band<3

  • great song from a great band

  • you have to give credit to the people/person that filmed/art directed their videos--pretty flipping cool!!!

  • perfectly dark![2]

  • I think this was the first song I heard by them...

Oh, Peter, look at what you started.

  • Pete Murphy looks like Mick Karn of Japan, underatted but highly infuential

  • weren't they in 'dali's car' together?

  • Bauhaus- One of the greats.

  • hollow hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiills

    bauhaus

    darkness.......

    buen grupo

  • fecking marvellous

  • Perfectly dark V^^^V

  • yeah i love the hunger

  • Great and important band.,,there are only very few like this. I still see the Bowie influence though, but Murphy is quite a character on his own.

  • visually (as well as musically) SO BEAUTIFUL

  • plastic sweat out of chissled slits for eyes

  • this song is fucking great!

  • like after some war...like all world is destroy...so sad...great song...that's my fell

  • He is talking about graves ,the war already happenend and the weak won!

  • imho their best song

  • At 1:21 to 1:25 it clearly a drumstick, and yes that sound could be produced from said instrument...a classic still thanx for posting this R.I.P. Bauhaus

  • And witches too and goblins too.

    LAMENT, REPENT O MORTAL YOU.

  • if their ever was a real Vampire it would be Peter Murphy

  • Peter Murphy is not a vampire as many people think, he is a werewolf master, he always adores the moon in many of his songs, he detets vampires for sure

  • Watch Tony Scott's movie " The Hunger",then you talk... :)

  • No man you are totally wrong if you think he is a vampire, he is a werewolf, believe me! He tries to distract many people while he is a clear werewolf but it is more clear when Peter Murphy was alone, Ash is the only vampire in this group

  • None of them are vampires or werewolves, why? Because THEY DON'T FUCKING EXIST.

The only vampire to ever live was Bram Stoker.

  • GAWD HIS EYES! So hypnotic! Age has hardly touched him it seems!

  • i simply love them.

  • This is an awesome vid!!

  • when was this recorded?

  • uuuuuuuhhhh,"Trikstark", that Is a drumstick genius

  • Pete Murphy is a god.

  • Peter Murphy is my God, Religion and Idol.

  • this song makes me think of autumn/halloween

  • Shhh! My Children, they listen. Let the Faerie play.

  • este tema es de Bowie en realidad

  • hell yeah my fav of all songs its very other

  • Peter Murphy is the grand wizard of our white gothic church.

He speaks to all of us united

  • whats white gothic church...?

  • Does anyone remember the 'Northern' version of Bela Lugosi's dead? '' The Flat Caps on the hat stand, the Whippets have been fed ''

  • LMAO

  • Lol on live shows he always say "Heels" insted of "hills" like on the live show of "All night Long" song he says "Oveerrr aaaa a heeeel" insted of "over a hill"

love this song one of the best bands

  • love bauhaus! this song is great and amazing!

  • fantastic, i love this song... almost cried....

  • Facking emo, always those crying comments, just watch and shut up , or go cry, but don`t tell me!

  • so spooky still

  • love love love love this song! Bauhaus, such a great band!

  • one of the best songs by one of the best bands

  • Thats A drum stick Ash is using ?

  • Yep. He used a drum stick to make his guitar sound like keyboards. Is that not amazing?

  • Uhh...that's a bow, as in for a violin..that drumsticktheory would sound a bit different, would it not?

  • Oh, that makes a hell of a lot more sense, someone told me it was a drumstick. Thought that sounded a bit odd.

  • It's a drumstick

  • drumstick, but should play with a guitar equipped with sustainer pickup

  • This is better then on the original on their cd.

  • great video quality, for as old as it is (more than 27 years ago!)but I think this was about 1981.

  • This footage is from the Resurrection Tour which took place during 1998 and is part of the Bauhaus "Gotham" DVD. Brilliant performance..thanks for the upload.

  • Brilliant.

  • When I see all these comments I read "founders of Goth".We used the therm NEW WAVE in those days.Goth didn't exist then.

  • the term "goth" picked up steam in the late 80's where I was from...You're right, I remember an early interview with Robert Smith and he was asked what kind of music he makes, his response was simply "rock and roll"

  • I saw Bauhaus for the first time justafter the release of Dark Entries. They played Hollow Hills then. Danny used a normal drumstick. How do I know? I've got it!!

  • Do you mean Danny as in Daniel Ash (used a drumstick on his guitar?) or are you referring to the actual drummer (whos name is Kevin) seeing as you mentioned the drumstick?

  • Mask is the best Bauhaus album

  • My personal favorite is Burning from the Inside but Mask is definitely a great one!

  • Playing guitar with a violin stick...Genius.Saw them last year.Awesome.

  • Its not a violin stick *also known as a bow* its an normal round piece of wood.

Also the guitar bow, has been used ALOT in the past *think Led zeppelin ;) *

I saw them twice last year, best show i've ever seen, truly haunting.

  • Aha, I didn't know that.thanks

  • I love The Bauhaus. They filled the big hole leaved by Ian Curtis' death and the consequently end of Joy Division.

    Great band, and song too!

    Thanks for this AWESOME 5*****!

  • What I wouldn't give to have been there..

  • me encanta esta cancion ..me hace sentir happy! :D

  • wonderful song.. nice eerie feeling 8->

  • There will never be another.....

  • simplesmente um clássico....

  • I love Peter Murphy... even if hes gay. this is one of my favorite songs of bauhaus.. I totally love it

  • he's not gay. neither is danial ash.

  • I say even...

  • Since when is Peter gay??? He's married, you moron. Besides, why would it make a difference if he was?

  • Where did you hear Peter was gay? He is married to a Turkish woman named Bayan and they have two children, a boy and a girl.

  • I remember Murphy doing an interview in the days after Bauhaus where he spoke about he and his male musical collaborator also being lovers [this was before Dali's Car, it wasn't Mick Karn] Maybe he gave it a go and then changed his mind. Like Bowie. Again.

  • did he work with any one betwen bauhaus and dalis car

  • bauhaus bootleg 45's under "Art Deco"

  • I remember a friend gave me a casette tape of them with Bela Lugosi on A and Boys on B side in 97' and I immediatley had to find all I could on them....I even bought a couch a few years back made by a company called Bauhaus....

  • this is dark not goth

  • bauhaus is deh god father of gawth

  • One of my favorite Bauhaus' songs, thanks sooo much for posting this video!!!

  • Daniel Ash, pure wall of noise !!!!

  • 's funny how good they made them look in the intro shot. I saw them at the Riviera in 98 during their reunion tour. I actually slammed inadvertently into Peter as they were climbing out of a van and heading into the show. My point is, they looked like CRAP! Lotta touch up in that there intro shot.

  • The founding Fathers of ture "death Rock" the beginging of Goth Music and Goth as a fashion alternative to FASHION.... Peter Murphy has one of the most hauting voices ever!! Pax Vobiscum 2 all.

  • Lest we forget Rozz Williams (Christian Death), and Andi Sexgang (Sex Gang Children), not to mention many more!!

  • One of if not ones that practically invented the genre of dark gothic rock, and the main spark that set off the birth of the Gothic sub-culture & life style in early 80's.

  • you tube is the best place to be i cannot believe i have missed watching all this again after birmingham!!

  • This is dark!!

  • saw them august 2005. STILL AMAZING!

  • I saw them twice in Holland. In the Hague at Het Paard van Troje. The first time they were amazing, best life-act I'd seen for a while back then (80ties)The second time I saw them, a year later, they were destroyed by heroïn. Such a shame and a waste of talent...

  • Who knows where I get the song The Twenty Scopes

  • His voice is haunting.

  • brilliant.

  • The kings of goth...

  • I second the motion! :)

  • Definately one of the founding forefathers. But I don't think they planned it that way. The gothic vibe & spirit just seeps out of certain creative people. Thankfully Peter Murphy and the rest of Bauhaus were some of them.

  • Lament, repent oh mortal you

  • Is Gotham a live CD and DVD??

    (awesome btw)

  • i <3 bauhaus

  • dont forget to subscribe my chanel

  • what a fucking awesome music and video, love it...

    Thank you...

  • My all time favorite- thank you !

  • Bauhaus, une merveille. <3

  • Probably my favourite Bauhaus-song ever. Great version, as well. Peter Murphy is as ominous as ever. ;)

    Thanks for uploading!

  • Thanks for sharing - great to see a rare one like this...great!

  • soooooo much love for this. Thank you

  • what a fucking awesome video, love it
