All those who were protesting agains the military intervention of the US in Vietnam, also should have done so with regards to the participation of China and the Soviet Union!! In China countless people died in the famine which, as you correctly point out, was a direct result of centralised beaurocracy. However, more people than that died in India during the same period due to easily preventable diseases and poverty. In China local clinics were set up to serve the common people which prevented all those deaths. In India (capitalist/democracy) not.

Did you know for example that in the years after independence in Africa, under socialist governments, the growth rate was equal to anywhere else in the world? Africa experienced positive growth into the 1980's, some of those countries had been independent since the beginning of the 60's thats not 1 or 2 years, thats 20 years. 1980's is when the IMF forced them to privatise and take huge loans which they are still repaying.

In democracy you have a pluralistic society, with the division of power, where the legislative, judicative and executive are separated from each other.
