just think of all the talent that may have been overlooked because they weren't the most glamorous or best looking. sometimes the most talented are disguised by less than great looks. thanks george for your choices.
This song reminds me of my father.....like Mr.Jones he too discovered that at an early age he liked drinking but the choices and the help his family wanted to give him...as a stubborn man too stuck in his ways...he turned them all away....he passed away 8 years ago from all the heavy drinking....I'm pretty sure he would still be alive today if he took the help...dispite all that,Dad I still love you xoxo
awesome: NO DISLIKES!!! George is THE MAN--- I grew up drinkin with him, etc- and soberin up with him too- life is good now, from the choices I made....
totally awesome...i don't have a thirst for booze anymore...now i have a choice... today...great voice/some...the vocals, his words tell the truth...thats where the beauty is of this song is found!!!
This song is great:)Based on life, and it's completely true.I'm a huge country fan and I've known this song since I was 2 or 3,it's a great inspiring song:)
Every word of every verse of this song explains my life. Please whoever knows me make sure to play this song at my funeral. God Bless everybody in my life!
I love this song because it is so true we live and die with the choices we have made. Thanks for posting this song sung by great country singer George Jones, I love his songs and his great voice!
My son, who is not a country music fan, was so inspired and moved by this song, he actually sent it to me, another non-country-music-lover, and inspired me too!!! Great song and artist, that George Jones. :)
im a big country lover and i ve recorded with my couzin and hes pretty old and me and him sung this and my mother had said it sounded really good but this song is based on reall life weve got choices dont turn them down;)
@gotaxial we do indeed share the same name .. my family is from Arkansas I dont any more but I did spend many years there I have always worked supported my family made a living but it cost so much in family happiness.Listen to the song GJ always made a living but hell the choices the reasons we do things when we are drunk are amazing ... I am older know but I am stil paying for the wreckage of my past but Wayne a drunkis a drunk whether he sings for a living or repairs equipment like I Do
@ Ac130 I did change But that still leaves me with the losses that I have due to my choices, I like the song it reminds me of where I was, The losses are real I dont like having regrets or wondering what if, Thank you my friend
This song is a part of me .... no it is me in many ways I have lost so much because I chose to drink, now I am living and dying with the choices I have made . This song is my life TY
@wdeatonjr wow if your name is TY then we have the same name... but why do people drink their life away? why not just have a few and when you feel a buzz and relaxed your good... and never drink alone allways with someone you know so when you fall, no mater what happened you could still get back up from that who you are drinkin with.
Hazel likes enjoy listen country music and I both. this kind of music make us feel very happy this weekend. thank you so much. we are going to get the lyrics songs and listening every day. thank you.
Awesome song.......still love the moment when on the CMA awards Alan Jackson payed respect to George and sang this song when the CMA didnt want George to sing the song.
This song will go down in history as one of the greatest country songs ever written and performed. This is why country is country. Anything else is only music.
Had this song played at my Dads funeral he loved George Jones and what a fitting song for my father since he fought the bottle to the end but was a lovely man and fiercely loyal to his family.
This is one of the BEST songs of his CAREER-Don't give that rocking chair a second thought George ! ! ! ! ! Johnnys' gone , and your left to carry on-- ! ! ! !
This is one of the BEST songs of his CAREER-Don't give that rocking chair a second thought George ! ! ! ! ! Johnny gone and your left to carry on-- ! ! ! !
@WrestlingStateChamp2 before there was even a George Strait there was George Jones, he was the king of country before and, figuratively speaking, the throne was passed down to Strait...they're both amazing artists, with amazing songs with great meanings! Love them both!
i think many people can understand this song to a certain extent....but i dont think you can truly understand this song unless you are a true addict. i am an addict and always will be one. even at times when i manage to quit the temptation is always there and i always go back. when i hear this song i damn near cry. i have been to prison i am unemployed i cant find work i steal to get money. there are things i want to do with my life but it seems nothing ever works out for me. the sad thing is
@rastaman24211 that as i type this i am getting ready to do my fix to get me going for the day. but i completely undertand what he says. i turned loved ones away to try to steer me right. every day i think about what i could do go back and do different with my life. i would have joined the army straight out of high school. and i relate to losing at life. every time i try to rise above the choices i have made in my life i fail. i am a little depressed today because my recent attempt to get money
americanpride42 the hell with cma they arent even country anymore gac is where its at they still know what country is alan jackson is gonna " fill george's shoes"
I don't care if people like country or not..Can't deny that the best songs about life are in the country genre and this song is a perfect example of such.
@QuassDebonair fuck people who dont like country they are just people with no morals and blame country for being racist, just so they can make money off their own hate and judgmental eyes of lies to make themselves fell better when they do what is wrong .
@juneausucks you would be surprised what kind of artist you can find from the past,George Jones is simply one of them. people talk about being good, not to be racist well whats more racist than calling country music something its not so you can push forward music like r&b and rap that is true racism, country will never as it was so Liston to guys like johnny cash,Waylon Jennings and much much more.
@QuassDebonair Hi, I know your comment is very old, but I just wanted to point out something. There are nice songs about life in almost every genre of music. Maybe you feel more receptive or enjoy it more when it's country (I do too), but I've heard really nice songs about life, with really nice lyrics, in other genres too. It's all about what kind of music you like. If you're more for country, then of course for you "the best" songs about life are in the country genre.
@QuassDebonair And this is said by someone who cried after listening, first to Bobby Bare's "daddy what if", and then Bobby Bare Junior's "daddy what if" with his daughter (feel free to look for them here on YouTube). The reason I was touched is because on a live show (back in the 70s), Bare said something like: "he will probably sue me when he gets older"... well, he didn't, but also he sang the same song with his daughter.
I remember when the CMA screwed George out of the "Single of the Year" award for this song. Then again, they decided to not give recognition to any Opry members aside from Allan Jackson.

Sad stuff when the CMA Awards in '99 asked George to cut his act to 90 seconds.
No wonder that he boycotted it and Alan Jackson interrupted his own song to sing this George Jones classic.
