best method i've heard of doing for these mods is putting the hard drive in a sealed tupperware box and then taking it apart in a bathroon soon after a a bath has been taken. the reason being is that the residual moisture will keep the dust settled long enough for you to take the top off after finishing the mod, then do the same to put it back together these are what i've heard from some people that have done it in the past.
i love this video but i think if you remove the cover from the drive dust will get inside unless your in a clean room, how did you mod it and still have it work
I did this mod in a normal, dusty garage. There are just a few moments where you have to work slow, and then: cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. After that the HDD had just about 40 diskerrors which are marked. After 3 years now it is still working fine.
thats kinda very retarded. first of all, it's louder than your mom... and then your monitor is fuxx0red... and that is one of the slowest boots i've ever seen. i have a pentium 233 sitting around here that even boots faster than that (XP Pro)
here's a nickel... go get yourself an upgraded PC.
Definitely a very slow drive and I didn't recognize the drive. Definitely not any Western Digital, definitely not an IBM/Hitachi, no Maxtor since the early 90s, no Seagate that I know of. I guessed either Fujitsu, Samsung or Quantum.
Cool mod though. I want to do this, but I don't want to risk ruining any of my drives. I could always find an IBM 75GXP, no one wants those.
Nice, i made a window modification on a maxtor, worked perfectly untill i accidentally dropped it, but i used the modded lid on another maxtor drive, maybe i'll put some clips up here

Yes, the HDD may have a few bad sectors. At 1:50 it looks like it is only booting into safe mode...

Is your HDD fragmented?
thafff 3 years ago
Firstly, the hd is loud and slow.
Secondly, the OS on that computer looked like win 95, win 98 maybe.
Thirdly, you monitor sucks.
Aside from that excellent video.

The "needle" basically moves back and forth rapidly. Defragging is basically moving files.

How old is your computer...? I think you are running windows 98 and taking like 2 minute to start up?

Wtf is that stupid hose doing? It's the worst looking thing ever. And that annoyng fan cover on the side was up-side down!
By the way, u could've got a proper mouse instead of doing rubbish like that.

I think you can actually buy HDDs with clear panels in them nowadays... forgot the company though.
asmqb 5 years ago
You can buy a hdd with a clear lid: WD raptor X 150gb 10000rpm.

This computer was just for playing around (not gaming!). So the purpose for it is to run (at least) and look nice, and that is what it is doing fine.

Thats cool
coondogtheman1234 5 years ago
that noise must get on your tits man! You should sound-proof it somehow. That would drive me insane

As far as i can remember, it was a Quantum 850mb from a Apple computer, but i am not 100% sure, sorry.
hakaider 5 years ago
Yeah, was gonna say that was painfully slow. And loud. But I guess you wouldn't really wanna try modding a brand new HDD liek that eh?

yes, it is still working just fine. Since 3 years now.
