I think Autism/Asperger syndrome is a cerebral mutation that is genetic. I have Asperger syndrome (takes after my mum in that way) as there have been relations on my mum's side of my family that have had autism/Asperger syndrome.

"pdd-nos" is the miscellaneous category meaning "something's wrong but we don't know what it is." Once we're labeled, it is hard to change the label.

I had learning problems till fourth grade then I began to accelerate academically. My son, Ian, is very bright and full of love and smiles. And he tries so hard to talk. I do not know them personally. I attended a workshop and there were both moms or dads who have autism along with their children. My younger brother had it also. He didn't talk till he was 4 and I started talking around 4 or 5. From what I remember, I could think of words and understand words...but did not talk till I was ready to. I find it interesting that we're all very peaceful and have great humor. Almost a step in evolution in some way, provided our surroundings are not so distractive.
